Augmentin, Amoxicillin was quite an interesting read in as much as I never read where it could be given to a 14 oz pigeon. The dose reccomended for an adult human is 25 mg and here we have a fancier with 650 mg tablets what are we dosing ? an elephant !!!. I dont wish to offend BUT this particular anti biotic should be used only to treat infections THAT ARE PROVEN.

Don't think you went near a vet as he would have supplied you and their would be no need to ask. I think this is another case of treating blind with a product unfit for racing pigeons.

Well put Frank and straight to the point

I cannot believe that this incident took place on April 3rd and no one appears to know anything regarding it. Surely this should have been brought to the attention of fanciers through the fancy press so we as fanciers could take the appropriate steps to finance a Q.C. and create a precedence, ie " Protection of our poultry ". No doubt some reading this will be saying to themselves we dont keep poultry we keep racing pigeons however please bear with me and I will explain in the following which will be posted to Sheriff Craig McSherry c/o Dunfermline Sheriff Court for reference regarding background reports on Mr Andrew Hutchison which I have no doubt will enlighten him on a subject he has absolutely no knowledge off. 1) The bird Mr Andrew Hutchison allegedly shot on April 3rd 2011 with an air rifle "no licence required" is not on the protected birds list on the Wildlife & Countryside act 1981 therefore not a protected species. 2) In 1981 The British Goverment with D.E.F.R.A. classed racing pigeons as Poultry with all the protection required to protect our flock with the same right's in protecting our stock as the farming community with the proviso of yearly vaccination for Paramyxovirus. 3) Mr Ryan Dryburgh was flying "not excersising" a bird trained to kill pigeons on Public Land without permission from the Local Council adjacent to a pigeon loft without seeking or gaining permission or at least warning Racing Pigeon Owners "poultry owners" of his intentions. 4) Mr ryan Dryburgh would have observed Mr Andrew Hutchison's pigeons excercising around his loft "Council By-Law, Pigeons must be excercised twice daily" 5) Mr Ryan Dryburgh stated to the court that a gust of wind blew the bird into a tree in Mr Andrew Hutchison's garden, "The weather forecast for that day according to the Meteorological Office was moderate wind speed" which would make the accuser's evidence doubtful on that point of his evidence. 6) Mr Andrew Hutchison was protecting his flock as was his right to do when they were attacked by this bird, killing it as a farmer would a dog worrying his livestock. The only criminal act that day was the removal of property not belonging to him. Should any forum members have anything further that I could add to the above I would be most grateful because we have shot ourselves in the foot regarding this case as it was the perfect instrument in getting a precedent set by a Queens Council for the future of our sport. It would appear to me,Mr Hutchison was not legally represented in a prosecution which could cost him £10.000 and his loss of liberty. Any stupid or infantile remarks from forum members will not be appreciated as I am prepaired to put £100 into a fighting fund

Lanarkshire Fed Secretary
peter pandy replied to JohnQuinn's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
MONKEY NO !!! However a fool and his money comes to mind !!!. Perhaps I should have elaborated on the involvement and where a Fed Secretary is at the mercy of club secs delaying their race results. As a past Fed Sec I do know what is involved and the time scale. Their is no difference whether its 200 or 1000 members if the capability of the computer programne is capable. After all they do not have to calculate long and short runs of clocks, ETS is to the car and the horse, Accountancy is not difficult if you have a knowledge of maths. There are many ways in which income can be achieved to the benefit of all and last but not least some fanciers would be proud to be the Secretary of Lanarkshire Federation. -
Delbar !!! Originated from STICHELBAUT

Lanarkshire Fed Secretary
peter pandy replied to JohnQuinn's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
I know it is not my business, however, if you permit me I would suggest you forget a full time Fed Sec as the position now with computers has been a marvelous asset in time saving for this sport to anyone holding the position. I noticed that your Fed has 453 members this year which will in all probability reduce to 425 for 2012. Ian Henderson was recieving a salary dictated on your balance sheet and by dividing that sum by the number of Fed members "453" for 2011 it gives you the sum which each member "per se" paid for in 2011 which should be the starting point in any salary determination for the future. £5 per member at the present number of members gives a salary of £2,265 per annum which is not to bad a figure for the number of members. -
Dougie Bald has them phone 07766904506 I am sure he will help you out.

Ivomectin is certainly just the job for eliminating feather beasties but will not worm your birds. I personally have an inquisitive mind when it comes to Ivomectin as the treatment is 1 drop on the birds neck skin !. I have been unable to find the formula for this liquid as the only chemical I know that can perforate the skin without burning {acids} is Phenol and Cresol which in sufficient quantities kills on entering the partcipants blood stream. I have often wondered if the massive losses we are entertaining at the moment could be related to Ivomectin and its introduction. Food for Thought.

If you had contacted vet regarding your problem DEFRA would have visited your loft and gave you advice on containment PLUS within 48 hours you would be visited again to inform you of their results from samples taken. This service is FREE and you are not stigmatised in any way. I write from experience when stock birds had watery droppings, stumbling around, unable to feed,weight-loss and twisting heads {stargazing}. NO IT WAS NOT PARAMYXO.

Their is no need to let tap water stand 24hrs before use. If you put tap water in an open bucket you will smell the chlorine, to clear it you only have to agitate it vigorously for 1 minute and the chlorine will evaporate.

My gun dogs were infected with mange from rolling about in fox dirt. Vet wanted £75 for cream to treat them. I told him to get lost and purchased a tube of Germoline "pink" £2 and they were cleaned up in 4 days.

So you think its canker do you !!. Well I have been in the game 55 years and thought I knew it all. I shall elaborate. About 2 months ago I had young birds going down with canker and disposed of them immediately. I approached my local vet who I have had no previous dealings with and asked for 100 metroidazole "400" tablets for prevention of canker and he refused, he would only prescribe after examination of bird !. I told him I did not have any birds with canker and this was only a precautionary measure as I always dispose of any bird that has anything wrong with them but he insisted that he would not prescibe without consultation and a fee of £15 would be payable. You know where I told him to go !!!. Back home I went on the internet and placed an order for said tablets. These I quartered and popped down all the birds in the loft including young coming out of nests, Fine said I problem solved. 1 week later another went down with canker and after disposing thought to myself that I must have missed it when treating although I was positive I had not. Another week later and another went down so I had to queery the product I had obtained . I then tried to obtain B.S. from Deweerd Vetinary in Colchester and was delighted when they sent me B.S. and a Testing Kit within 24 Hrs of contacting them. I sent dropping samples and crop swab back for examination and lo and behold the resuls phoned to me the very next morning was as follows. No Canker, Small Cocci count, High Hair Worm count in droppings and high Bacteria count in the crop swab and forwarded treatment which I recieved the next morning and has cleared my problem up with no further fatalities for 4 weeks and birds looking and flying like demons. In the past I have like most fanciers blind treated with anti this and that but no more. What I was 100% certain was canker most certainly was not and the moral of this is, their are avian experts out there who have the proper knowledge and expertise to solve our problems and you may find that in the long run their advice will work out cheaper than we who think we know it all. I certainly have learned my lesson...

Eddie Newcombe if memory serves me in my dotage had Osman Bricoux.

If Andre Lietar had them then they were definately Stichelbalt as he had many from Marcel Desmet.

I was rather hoping to obtain more information on Alois Stichelbaut from those with knowledge of his strain as I am not sure if the Aarden family was originally based on Stichelbaut. The reason being their distance qualities which had to relate to distance pigeons. We are aware that many named strains take their name from the owner not giving credit to where the original stock came from and the base is lost in history not being recorded. Does anyone know where the Hanseene family originated from ?.

George and Liz helped me and my family when we lost our son to which we were so very grateful. Rest In Peace old friend.

Lanarkshire Fed Race Program 2012
peter pandy replied to JohnQuinn's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
I think all the SNFC members in Lanarkshire want to attend the SNFC AGM and propose they restart flying from Avranches, Rennes, Nantes to bring them up the Cherbourg peninsular in France.
