  1. http://www.gardenlaw.co.uk though the above link is not specific to your problem, you may find some information on this forum - or a link to more relevant information
  2. can you elaborate please Jimmy
  3. Happened to bump into someone who was picking a passenger up from Manchester airport yesterday. I get your drift about that one, Surely the liberation of pigeons within 5 miles of an airport is to do with races, not the odd stray ones. But as I didn't liberate personally, don't know how close. Trying to do people a favour, you don't agree with then ? Transporters here will not transport any birds other than race birds for the clubs. Not even our own union strays, or that is what I have heard.
  4. The protein lumps that look like black warts, have never made any difference to the flying ability in birds that we have had with them, they have all gone on to score - (we have had one a year) however these have only ever appeared on body or neck, never on wing, and have always been left to fall off themselves
  5. Bruno, you should know that birds cannot go on transporters without their vaccination certificates, so I would say that is a no-no. Incidentally, we in the North East of England got many birds in from last Saturdays Cheltenham race - Manchester - Liverpool, west coast. What is happening - don't you think that there is something terribly wrong ? I got two in from that race, one Monday which was put up Thurs at Bradford over 70 miles away, and came back to my loft and one came in on Wednesday - but no race rubber. Both wing stamped incidentally. Both liberated at Manchester airport this morning, I know one has arrived home at his own loft.
  6. UNC were racing from Huntingdon on Saturday - two liberations 8.30am and 8.45am. However Durham combine and West Durham I think were also at the same race point, liberations starting as early as 7.25am.

    LATEBREDS

I have limited experience with any age of pigeon but this is my experience: there seems to be differing opinions about late breds. Some fanciers I know get their best results from them. Were given some 8 latebreds August 2004. Most were lost during racing 2005, had one left did the full inland program last year, but didn't score. Lost from 1st race this year. 2 of our own latebreds 2005, bred from our only winner - lost off loft before training started this year - so very negative experience from me. I wouldn't want any latebreds again thank you....
  8. Report direct to the NEHU E-MAIL: nehu@nehu.co.uk Don't tar all fanciers with the same brush
  9. Redcar - its raining, cold north wind full cloud cover at 8.25 am and I can't believe they've liberated the pigeons at 8.30.......
  10. Scottish Homing Union Mrs Linda Brooks Tel: 01698 286983 Fax: 01698 327469 Personally I would want to know. I have only ever reported a pigeon to the above once and I did that by fax.
  11. Redcar, a little hazy no wind, very little cloud

  13. Well done Jenny, I am sure the owner appreciated your efforts - I certainly would.
  14. Hyacinth, that was Mahoney, Nixon and Profitt. Not the same person.
  15. I Will send you a pm Jen
  16. We had more than a dozen strays in last year, I got one put up in Manchester, another Harrogate, a few at Leeds, one at Barnsley. one from Blackpool, put up at Leeds, and several put up in Tyne and Wear. 2 were Amtrak'd back home (Scotland and Cornwall) I'm North East coast, have had a Dutch one in since May, and a young one from Bradford wasn't wanted by its owner, so it was transferred to us, we didn't really want it at first- it's the only stray we have transferred, he had his first race last week - and scored. That is very satisfying isn't it ?
  17. We have just gone a hen back today at 3.00 pm that went missing from last weeks race, her first. She has been looked after by somebody as she is in too good a condition, she was wing stamped. You wonder if she went over, or backover, etc - I thought she was dead. She was the first bird we ever bred, and won't be raced again this year........ but it only takes a phone call to put someones mind at rest. I don't think I'm cut out to be a pigeon person, I cried for 3 days.......
  18. NEHU do not have to wing stamp and are not allowed to use telephone no. rings for national races - stupid rule. Our birds are wing stamped, and young birds have telephone no. rings at the moment - we rarely get them reported. Only one was reported last year, which was AMTRAK'd home. Its very disheartening not getting the missing ones reported, every stray was reported that came into our garden, I wish others would do the same with ours. Not all want them back, we endeavoured to get a few home by taking them 70 or 80 miles down the road, but then you don't get a phone call to say they have returned when you have made all the effort for somebody elses bird.
  19. I usually take the birds to the depot, and pick them up - its 15 miles away, but rather that than a) hang around waiting for collection and delivery and you can take birds to the depot as late as 6.00pm for sending and they can be picked up from the depot as early as 7.00am. That way the birds can spend as little as 14 hours in a box. It suits me, and I have always been happy with their service.
  20. I remember reading an article about some research done on racing pigeons and their homing ability, and the pigeons were fitted with contact lens to simulate blindness to see if they could return to their loft without the aid of vision, or using lens where they had partial vision. The article was I'm sure in one of the usual pigeon magazines. They could still home with no vision/partial vision I'm sure.

    3 lost

Snowy, last year lost 5 at once, lost on Friday and the last ones came back on the Monday - all returned, and it was a race weekend for the old birds. Didn't lose any off loft, but plenty spent night out before young bird racing started. My young birds for this year aren't flying yet.
  22. following on from this - I found a list of plants that were safe for cats - could they therefore be safe for pigeons, to put in the garden? 23. I don't know if I should have started a separate topic - have taken a faecal sample this morning from youngsters, this is only the second time I have used this microscope, and just like the first time, I didn't see anything on the slide such as eggs, oocysts etc. only very small things which I presume to be bacteria, I am concerned that I am missing something, I have used a laboratory microscope in the past, so should know how to use one. I am using x100 and x450 magnification. The books I have are Colin Walkers, which I didn't think was good enough to help with microscope, so I bought another called 'Under the Microscope' by Danny Brown. I thought that all pigeons had cocci, and they were treated to keep the numbers down, their parents were only treated for canker prior to pairing. and haven't been wormed since the end of the race season. Nothing showed on the faecal samples before pairing. I wondered if I had focused on the wrong layer - if you know what I mean. Though I have been up and down with adjustments to check. I just can't believe that I wouldn't find anything on the slide. Could I be doing something wrong ? Or could it be I have 'perfect' pigeons healthwise ? I don't believe that, though they are healthy looking
  24. A small dark chequer cock, not settled to any loft, escaped on Monday, abandoned his hen and two squeakers..... Has a yellow telephone number ring, please call if found. Thank you :'(
