old jock says when the daffies are out thats the worst time for the sparrowhawk ;) extra caution. ;)
  2. this might be the doo we are looking for,2nd open that day was ER Williamson kircaldy i think which is one of the most sought after national trophies.
  3. watched it live at the time geo,was a top athlete with the british 400m team very strong at this point. :) saw Michael Johnson leave john regis and linford christie (at the time olympic medal winners)50 metres up the track in auld reekie on a wet night running 19.70 or 80 for 200m with mr athletics ron pickering nearly passing out at johnsons running an allcomers record!!!!!!!!! :)
  4. smart move alan.

  6. your eastbourne winner bob was not in her first flush of youth. :lol:yep hens teeth.

  11. jock had pictures on his living room wall of "no surrender" "bright eyes" "irish mick" "pleasant surprise" all gold award winners, was always a great bit of history and always caught my attention when at jocks for tea and cheese on toast or roasted cheese. think "mill monarch" was also there!!!!
  12. well done mr and mrs potter. :)
  13. bob always thought "shot wattle" rennes oldest and "cockpen heatwave" for the shorter distance, canny think any doo over 8 or 9 has won the national, but maybe some body knows.certainly do not think we will see many oldies racing never mind winning nationals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Willie Mclean left Scotland for Australia and returned 1960 to present the gold cup at the SNFC dinner on the 50th anniverary of the rennes race, the winners J wilson & son Lanark.not sure how old "NO SURRENDER"was when winning rennes.
  15. "NO SURRENDER" 63rd 38th 13th 55th and 100th open for his gold award,6000 to 7000 doos in the 1970s,what a doo and fancier. NB "TOWNFOOT GOOD BOY 2" was 1st section 4th open snfc rennes at 10 years old!!!!!!!!!! would have said "cockpen heatwave" at 9 yrs old "shot wattle" was 8 yrs old when winning rennes, remember Sam Sammons of Aberdeen winning the north section with a 12 year old but who knows with fanciers happy at times of the year to use old rings!!!! :)
  16. good luck wuldon and also alan who hopefully can keep a wee bit of scottish interest. :partick-thistle-Crest:
