  10. Pot eggs now means sitting 2nd round at time of race. Wonder if this is timed to a certain age of egg or near chipping? Can be good for training (i think), giving them the mind set to get home. but also first round laid at end of month could have more motivation also. Thanks Andy for updates, will be interesting to see how this pans out. atb Mick

  13. Hi all me mame is Michael Moran, i keep pigeons for the love of it more than the glory. I do race but im not that good of a fancier. I have won a few but time and family restrict me putting 100% in. I have bred winners for others. Im trying to build a team of distance pigeons that you can count on when the going gets tough, and to time regularly from France to the N.West of Ireland. i take part in chat now and again in 2 other sites but i like to sit read and learn. atb Mick

  19. Gary to me a strain would be a line of winning pigeon or pigeons your family descended from, and continue to win for yourself through generations. There are many winning strains all over the UK and Ireland purposely bred by the individual, all from top breeders from the UK and the continent. so what im trying to say is that your van loons are a strain developed by yourself for your own requirements and have served you well. Same with anyone buying , say a busschaert,Aarden or any other for that matter. We all develope our own strain. atb Mick
  20. My father when i was about 10(40 now) i took an interest and my uncle reared me 6 ybs to race from me oul boys loft. Me da trained and fed them with me looking in. When the first race came along, 120 miles, ill never forget the feeling when i seen one of mine bomb in , do a wide circle of loft then trap to win the club. I WAS SMITTEN through growing up and meeting the wife i didnt start back until 2003(age 31) when me da decided to pack up and i had me own home to build a loft. I brought some of his down ...broke what i could and raced them out. It was like starting from new and even novice status...im still a novice(although i have won a few races) and learning every year. atb mick
