  1. Has anyone got a contact for an application form? I have left numerous email with John David but of yet no response. I am desperate to join for the young bird nationals. Any info would be gratefully received! thanks.
  2. I copied and sent too!
  3. Sorry mate, I dont agree with what your saying. My team of youngsters were healthy and only had been vaccinated for the PMV as required. They had been treated for cocci, canker and worms and that is it! No other vaccines, nothing! They went down like a tonne of bricks and had been in super condition just 24 hours before!
  4. I dont believe its just weak pigeons that get this terrible illness, my pigeons could not have been healthier, cleaner, fitter just 24 hours prior to them showing the signs of it! Infact they exercised around the loft for 2 hours the day before when exercising! So I agree to say kill them is somewhat a little crazy. I am all for culling weak/unhealthy youngsters but this type of thing is completely different.
  5. Thats all very well but when the whole 50 young birds have it, it will be quicker to cure it than to kill them all ;-)
  6. Hiya mate, the crops emptied after the soda crytals and then they had the charcoal tabs. I fed them coditioner for the first 3 days and today fed them some breed and wean. Its not been a week yet mind. I have lost 2 however, they lost serious weight. I have concerns over 5 or 6 others but the others seem to be on the mend if somewhat slow progress.
  7. I currently have Young Bird Sickness and what a terrible thing it is to. I have treated them via the following means so far: - Adenosan (currently taking), Soda Crytals to empty the crop, charcoal tablet and live yoghurt. I also currently have Coxoid in the water for any secondary cocci infection. I developed the illness last Thursday but the birds droppings are still very watery and a couple have real dark green slim like droppings. The sickness has stopped although they still appear to be puffed up and lacking energy/enthusiasm. How long does it usually take for the birds to regain full health? They have improved but not as much as I expected. Any comments welcome.
  8. I am the same Wayne, first article I would turn to!
  9. Just keep an eye on the others mate, you wont miss it if it is YBS thats for sure!! All the best and hope its not too serious.
  10. My club - Gurnos Social sent - Swindon. Bobby Thomas took 1st and 2nd. A few losess by the members though. My own birds recovering from YBS so I didnt send :-(
  11. Young bird sickness will leave the pigeon wide open to a secondary infection ie) cocci or e-coli.
  12. The droppings are total watery, some appear sticky and green. Gross!! I would remove the pigeon from the loft.
  13. I had all 53 of my young birds out, that was Thursday, 4 of mine are still on the roof and will not budge! I am treating mine with live yoghurt, charcoal tablets and Adenosan. I have also put Provit in the water to help with watery droppings. Keep the food light - feeding mine conditioner for the time being. Their appetite is starting to come back tonight and the watery droppings are decreasing so fingers crossed the worst of it is over.
  14. If you see any corn on the perches, or any of the birds being sick this will more than confirm it as YBS. But as Edwards said could be any reason and see how he is tomorrow. But if all the others are ok, isolate the bird and then you can monitor this bird more closely.
  15. Sounds very much like young bird sickness mate! Have your pigeons vomited at all? It comes on really quickly. I have it at the minute. My birds had been trained 20 times and ready for the race today and then on Thursday went down like a tonne of bricks. It could be a host of things but mine went like that on Thursday. Just went out sat on the roof and hunched up. No energy at all. They are being treated at the minute but really gutted as they were in great nick ready for the first race. But I think its part and parcel of young bird racing these days and I would rather get it now than in the middle of the season and miss the bigger races!
  16. used to love his articles in the RP. Some of things he come out with were so funny.
  17. Pigeon Talk with Roger. I used to love reading this article in the Racing Pigeon. It was written by Roger Darlow. Does anyone know if Roger is still involved in the sport and does anyone know contact details etc? Cheers
  18. I totally agree Doomaloon!
  19. Anyone seen the BHW this week on page 161 reagarding Young Bird Sickness? A bloke is asking £35 to tell you how to clear it up within 30 hours with 3 magic natural products. I think its a cheek and this information should be readily available to anyone who has this. Anyone know what these products are? A letter should be sent to the BHW to make this information available to all. I am thinking 2 of the products would be Charcoal and live yoghurt? Any ideas anyone?
  20. I usually wean my young birds when the underneath of the wing is completely covered with feathers and no skin can be seen.
  21. roughly it takes about 10 days for a pair to lay, 17 days after the second egg was laid to hatch. I used throw away nests (dandy) nests with some straw in for nesting material. Saves messing about cleaning, just throw away when need changing.
  22. Great idea mate and maybe just what the pigeon world needs to attract younger members who after playing the game maybe interested in starting up in pigeons for real! I hope it does well and I am looking forward to it!
  23. I think its because they are older young birds and more likely to fly away on trying to break in at your own loft. They put it on as warning so people realise they are going to be stronger when they first receive them. Well thats what I think anyway! lol
