  1. SDB - The Dark Cheq Pied is a Jan Aarden. Its a direct son from Champion Crowning Glory from Ian Axe. I am thinking of selling him though as he is the only Jan Aarden I have. He is a 2008 bird and I purchased him in November.
  2. The Cheq hen in the 5th picture down is a full sister to the 2nd Open Europa Classic and 1st ACE Pigeon. Purchased 4 days before the Europa Classic 2008!
  3. Richard Shepherd (Rasbull Lofts) - Hi I have just finished building my new loft 12x6 - 6x6 on a L shape with a 3ft corridor. My stock birds will be housed in the 6x6 which is going to have an aviary put on at a later date. My 12x6 loft is going to house my youngsters this year and from then on will be my racing loft. I plan to extend the new loft along the platform and have a new 9 x 6 loft for my youngsters from next year onward. I have taken some pictures of the birds I have purchased so far for my stock loft. Thank you for looking.
  4. I am new to this forum and have seen only a handful of threads but Asha you have appeared in two that I have seen and you have been moaning and groaning about nothing worthy of the effort required. The other was when you belittled a young lad regarding his efforts regarding his photos and backgrounds he had designed. Get a life and stop moaning about others who are merely enjoying their sport. If you disagree with Strappers statement or a statement he has copied then that is your opinion and who ever made the statement that is theirs. Opinions are what makes the world go round but because someones doesnt match yours try to wind your neck in now and again!
  5. What do people find is the best way to obtain max exercise around the loft in relation to feeding? In the past I have let out my birds hungry and they have landed all to quickly looking to re-enter the loft looking to be fed. Then I have let out the birds after being fed and find they will not trap and stay out for hours just sitting on roof tops etc? So when is the best time to feed in relation to exercising around the loft?
  6. That is the problem with pigeon racing today, to many people wanting to knock and have a go at others for no other reason than jealousy. The more young people we can get into the sport the better. If you want to show your birds with whatever background you want the main thing is that you enjoy yourself. Thats what this sport is all about people enjoying themselves. Everyone has there own loft and ideas and different things that make them happy, and if your ideas differ from someone else...so what! Sadly somewhere along the line a lot of people have forgotten that. I hope you enjoy your birds and tak great pleasure from whatever ideas and dreams you may have. Well done.
  7. Can anyone please tell me what the best broad spectrum antibiotic for pigeon is? Cheers
  8. I just handpicked out the maize from the mix I was using. I also fed them a little earlier so they were not as hungry. I have put some cider vinegar in the water also. But all appeared well this lunch time when the birds were fed, so fingers crossed.
  9. Just fed the birds this morning on Tic beans and peas. New video on youtube at - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vJnrOhbM1WA
  10. Cheers for the advice everyone. I will try that vet in Usk again then and see what they have to say. I am unsure whether to pair up now or wait until this has sorted itself out.
  11. What feed do people think I should feed if trying to avoid Maize and Barley for the time being to be sure the birds still getting the appropriate nurishment. Regarding the live yogurt, how would you give this to the birds?
  12. I have just phoned and obtained the results of the second set of samples I sent off. They said the birds have a small reading of cocci and a small reading of yeast in the droppings. Everything else come back clear. Maybe the two products did clear up the yeast and small bacteria sample I had in the throat sample on the first tests. I will treat for the cocci now, and then I think I am going to buy a bag of peas and let them eat these and give the birds a break from the barley and maize. Maybe there throats are sore from these and having a break will improve this. Any ideas?
  13. Hi, I had the samples tested through the post, and they presribed the treatment. I am waiting on a second set of results coming back tomorrow (Lizzie Rigsby)I have tried all kinds of vets to see if the are able to help me. My local ones said they didnt deal with pigeons and would not do the swob tests for me. They passed me onto an avian vet in Cardiff who said they werent really clued up on pigeons and to try a vet in Usk. I have not heard back from them! I tried a number I had for a Tom Pennycott in Scotland but he didnt take the birds through the post. I have contacted two very well known vets from the pigeon world - Dr Wim Peters and Dr Colin Walker. But getting a vet around this area to be able to sort my problem out is just a nightmare. If anyone knows of a vet that would be able to help me please could I have there details. Cheers
  14. Hi, I did post a thread on here regarding this same problem way back months ago. I thought at the time it could have been damp corn. Have you the date or name of the thread so I can check it out please?
  15. Hiya John, the droppings look perfect although the birds do appear to have lost some condition the last 3/4 weeks. But this could be the colder weather. I had the droppings tested and they come back all clear. I did a throat swob as well and this was showing yeast and small bacteria count. I treated with Y40 and Protril (the products advised) but this did not improve the birds symptoms. They are all stock birds so dont go out, so unable to answer that. I would say I have a definite problem with them. I have keep birds for 10 years and never experienced this before.
  16. Hi, its just on the right hand side of the open door.
  17. I wish i didn't but 8 or 9 of them display the symptoms the cheq cock on the aviary display. The swallowing like that is not right. They should be able to eat there food without trying to push it down, balloon theirs necks and throats!
  18. Hi, the birds are being fed a regular mix which does include maize.

  20. I have a video of my birds feeding and was wondering if someone could please help me cure a problem my birds have. When they eat there necks and throats puff up as if they are struggling to swallow. I have tried alsorts to cure them. I have treated for canker, tablet and liquid form, they have had nystatin for candida infection. I have tried cider vinegar to cure any yeast infection. I have treated for worms as well. I am at a complete loss as to why the birds do this. The symptoms last for about 2 minutes during and following eating. If anyone wants to view the video of the birds eating please send request at rasbull@hotmail.co.uk and I will forward the video. It is only 2 mins long but does show the exact symptoms I am trying to describe and cure. I do hope someone has experienced the same thing and could possibly tell me how to cure my problem. I have forwarded the video to various pigeon vets and also have had swobs taken. Thank You.
  21. Thank you all for your help and advice. I have treated the birds with appertex and spartrix when the birds were first purchased. I have worm tablets but have not given any of these yet. I will do this tomorrow. I have been in contact with Dr Wim Peters from out of the BHW. He suggested it could be throat irritation caused by Herpes infection and suggested using 'bleach'? He also said it could be a candida infection and suggested a nystatin treatment. I am going to treat for canker, cocci, and worms this week. Does anyone know what he means by 'bleach' how do you administer this and what product do you use exactly? Also what nystatin product is available. Also what exactly is a herpes infection? Any answers to these questions would be welcome.

  23. Hiya mate, the throats of all the birds are fine, no white specks, no yellow substances. Just all look fine.
  24. Hi, I have just started back up in the sport again after having birds several years ago. I have purchased some pigeons from a very well known fancier. I have had the birds for about 2 months and they have been in superb condition. This last week the birds have been puffing their throats and necks up when feeding as if they are struggling to get the feed down. The droppings are good, although you can see there condition has deteriorated over the last week as well? I have changed the make of the food but still no change. I have not seen this before in pigeons. I have given them clean food, water, grit and minerals daily. I had one hen that lost a lot of weight and I put her in a basket, but she died tonight. She was quite lifeless in the main loft so took her out as a precaution. I have treated the birds for Cocci and Canker but this has not helped. I am at a loss? Has anyone got any ideas what the problem could be or anyone experienced similar problems themselves? Thank You Ps I have enclosed two pictures of one of the birds with the problem. The majority of the birds are showing the same symptoms.
