  1. Grown in next to no time! I am amazed at how much my two parents are eating but, when I see how quickly the birds grow it figures!
  2. They're lovely. Why do you part them? :-/

    prob

Snowy is posting about the same problem. Take a look at Squab's leg on the Health board.
  4. Yes thanks Speight - two red Theelans - and he was delighted with them they were crackers!
  5. There has been nothing on the above one since Christmas.
  6. Bruno, your rule of thunb is serving me well ..... I was only saying so to Snowy today.......without it I would be panicking about my bird's droppings every time they change a bit! ;D The young birds are fine but, needed claening out! :B :B I thought that I shouldn't disturb the nest as they'd built it themselves. : :
  7. Thanks Carol, I don't think it will be doing too much racing........it's a fantail!! ;D ;D
  8. Again, thanks guys. I obviously didn't describe the feathers accuately - friend came today, took one look at the birds and said they were perfectly fine!! I shall have to stop worrying so much! : :
  9. Thanks guys, you have no idea how much better you have made me feel. :K) :K) Maybe I didn't describe it properly - but this little fella and his nest partner will be staying! I just hope that they feather up soon as the parents are hardly with them now and its pretty cold in the dovecote!
  10. This is a 12 day old white pigeon. I have described its feathers to a fancier friend and he does not like the sound of it. He thinks they have been not fed enough or been cold and the birds will be no good. He's coming tomorrow to 'do the deed' if necessary. What do you think - is this pipey growth normal? A very worried Peckedhen :-/ :'(
  11. Hiya! ;D ;D Good to see you posting again - I missed ya, me friend! Must have been awful seeing the hawk get one of your birds.....I don't know how I'll cope with something like that........I've already been told that I'll have to toughen up when I start training my youngsters.....two baby fantails and four eggs under homers! Keep trucking on gal. Sue
  12. Lovely photo. Did you put cardboard round nest for insulation or easy cleaning?
  13. Have a look on this site Astropigeon. It might give you some ideas to start with. http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/showthread.php?t=8046
  14. Maybe they're not broadcasting right now. I can listen to the archives. :-/
  15. Just picked this up from a US forum. Not sure if we can access it here - I'm useless with the 'pooter!! The time will need adjusting too. Good Luck Linda - you kept this quiet! BENT KEEL

I'm surprised that birds with bent keels can do as well as those with a straight keel. I used to do a lot of sailing and I was comparing a boat with a bent keel to a straight one. It surely wouldn't cut straight through the water well and win any races. Maybe the bird has to compensate in the way it flies but, then I'd have thought that this would slow it down. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
  19. Baby Sara was hand reared - not sure why, but this must have involved a lot a handling - you are right though Bruno. Young Westy has just PMed me warning me not to handle my babies!! :B :B
  20. Thanks Bruno. :K) :K)
  21. I guess it's happened to a lot of you before........I need a bigger loft!! I'm buying a shed and converting it as it seems to be a much cheaper option. The firm will deliver and erect but I (with a little help ;D) have to prepare where it's going to stand. I put my 4x6' onto flags but, I've noticed since that pigeon lofts are higher off the ground........what is the minimum height it needs to be? It will be 12'x6' and the firm will put a divider and door in for me - should I have 6' each side for breeders and young birds or divide in a different way - the cocks and hens will have a side each at the end of the breeding. Thanks.
  22. I had the same problem with mine! The dowels are 4 and 1/4 inches apart and the bottom of the hole they go through is 11" up from the floor. We solved the problem by adding a strip of 1" wood along the bottom of the hole they go through. It seems they can't manage to jump the extra inch! ;D
  23. Just remembered someone telling me to move the youngsters when their tails are two inches long! :-/ :-/
  24. Yeah, well I didn't think it would be the baby Sara link, but I love that one all the same - it proves beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
