  7. I could have a better team but is that not the same every year, you always think you could do better, are first race is from hereford about 92miles to me and i still cant make my mind up on how to race them but for some reason i am leaning towards the natural but i have never raced it before, all the dates are right for widowhood/roundabout, :-/ all the best to everone in the coming season hpe ya have a good one
  8. all the best mate, cant wait to see the loft
  9. Listen to bakes coz he has not long ago been in your shoes and has done really well in the time he has had, i think he has give you some good help to get you thinking, all the best
  10. your birds still look in good health with salmonella/paratyphoid and can still win races, its only when it gets really badthat it makes a differance and it might not get that bad ever, some carry and dont show any signs, he needs to get them tested :-/
  11. The black nest felts was a one year problem, it will be salmonella/paratyphoid, not much you can do now but learn the hard way, i treat every year for it but i dont always jab, if it was a animal of some sort i would expect to see evidence of it around the loft, and if a pigeon wont move off the nest when somthing as big as me comes in the loft it wont move for no rat, but that is just my opinion andthe only way to tell for sure is get the droppings tested
  12. All the best to you all, i know how you feel, my daughter was born 3 days ago, i still havent stoped smilling you be glad you dont have to do the night feeds ;D
  13. You can get a basket back on your insurance, and you cant get back a good pigeon, i know what i would rather them take, and it would not be me birds Not that i would like them to take anything at all
  14. Very nice mate, all the best for racing
  15. i would put one on but i am skint, i think all fanciers should have some sort of pigeon thing on the car, i have always had a pigeon on my car, people ask all the time about it and it does give a bit of intrest in the sport to those that have never heard of pigeon racing, if people see it on multiple cars in the area they may want to search the net and see what are sport is all about
  16. Youn lad and young birds you should keep it simple mate, no more than 30 i would say
  17. Its perfect when its like that, i am knoking down a 3 month old young bird loft to build a new one replicating my widowhood loft, there was not a problem with the ventalation of it, i had smoke bomb in it and the smoke left no problem but i just thought that its was not as good as the other loft, my mate hase got like a blakes loft and it smelt the same as my young birds loft
  18. Welcome to the site, as you can see you will like it here, loads of good fanciers just waiting to help, good luck for the future
  19. If you have a problem you should change high level ventalation because stale air rises, i dont have vents at low level it just makes a draft and that is not good, but if you came to my loft you can feel the air tickle your head and cant smell the birds, its perfect
  20. I would forget stock for now, 1 section for young 1 section for cocks in the loft you have, 12 boxes full size fit in 8 foot, fill the loft with young this year and if it was me i would build a 14 foot loft next year 6ft for stock cocks, 4 ft for stock hens and 4ft for widowhood hens, you will need more that 3 sections if you want stock, if you dont and only want to keep birds that have performed well for you i would wait, and keep my hens boxed on the side of the loft,it all depends on how much room you have
  21. Luck good mate, all the best with them
  22. Glue two wooden pegs on per hole, i like to use mitre fast, then glue on a square of 6mm ply with 1x1 batton on the end, so as you open the peg the batton comes away from the bobs and lets the bird enter, sorry i dont know how better to explain, hope that helps and my smilies work
  23. Looks sound, have you put the bits that close the bobs in one, i used to make seperate boards to close each section of bobs, using 6mm ply, wooden washing pegs, and 1nch batton so you can let each bird in on its own so that they are not locked in for ages and get stressed
  24. I dont space them mate,
  25. Same as me, thats why i will stick with the normal ets ring, was playing with the idea of glue and melting the end on the bricon chips with a soldering iron, but no point :-/
