i have mainly kirkpatricks and van loon jansenns.they are untested but i have high hopes for them for next season, they have responded well to the training and i will give them a 137 mile tester in august.will let you know how they go.paul -
selby about 68 miles sat is the best day over the weekend, sundays a washout.

i now have 24 youngsters,4 have been lost off the loft and 4 during training.i have focused on my first rounders.the team comprises of 4 kirkpatricks,4 van loon jansenns and 2 fox.they have been trained up as far as 60 miles and are being trained as distance pigeons.i plan to give them a 137 mile tester towards the end of august but between now and then i will work them up to towards that.the other 14 are late breds and have only just started to bunch together,i,m in no rush to train them with all the racebirds still bunching up above.unfortunately i cant race them this year due to family problems but i can turn them into a real sound bunch of yearlings for next year.thats the plan.will let you know how my little mini race goes.paul

if you dont think their ready then dont send them.you can still send them to the drop back races.just select a few that have been coming well from training and race them instead of risking the whole team.that way you will have a cracking bunch of yearlings for next year.

dont worry i know its frightning but their just ranging(exploring)itll go on for a couple of weeks even during training, they should settle down then.its good for them.the only downside is that being youngbirds and inexperienced you could get a few losses.i had a shock when i sat down and checked my records.i have lost 8 youngsters so far,4 during breaking in and 4 training.i have 24 youngsters in total now. their really starting to bud.

thank you all for your support,my apologies for not coming back on last night,we are trying to come to terms with it all.the hardest part is working out how to tell a little 8 year old what is going to happen.he,s back home with us now for the time being and last night he wanted his room window left open so that he could hear the birds cooing.what do you do so upsetting.

we are now unable to race this year due to our eldest sons health.he has been battling muscular dystrophy since the day he was born and he has now developed a heart defect which is making him really poorly.he loves the pigeons and during his recent stay in hospital it was all he could go on about getting back to the birds.we have been told that he does not have long left and we are both gutted and inconsolable.we want to spend as much time with him now as possible and have decided to put the birds on hold for this year.but we will be back.paul

that was what the council inspector told me when i first told them that i was planning to put in pigeon loft in my garden.just check your local authorities by-laws concerning external buildings and i think you will find that this is true.if you put your loft on a concrete base then it will be classed as permanent if you put it on a timber base its classed as tempory and portable and does not require planning permission but they still like you to ask.i have just asked about extending another 10ft,the inspector came and had a look(same inspector) and told me i could go ahead there and then.i have since received a letter confirming it.i did not involve planning just the housing department.all they did was run it by my neighbours (who i had allready told) and that was it.the only by-law i had to satisfy was that you have to be a member of the whu or equivalent governing body.but as you know laws vary from council to council and just to show you how crazy it is ,their quite happy for me to extend loft but they will not let me put up a secound aerial on my roof.

oh well it didnt upload.

where i live is directly under the "crossover" for all the different birds going on their merry way home.yesterday for instance,i let my birds out for a quick fly at 6.00pm and when they came back there where 2 gb pigeons with them.one was a cheq cock with a rubber race ring and a blue gb ring the secound was a blue cock with a red race rubber and a blue gb ring,my birds came in,the 2 gb,s stayed out,so i put some water up on top of the shed and they both dived into it,really, really thirsty.they then left after a minute or 2.did anyone have a blue and a cheq come in together,if so you owe me 5 gallons of water, they both left without paying their bills. ;D ;D ;D
