  1. youngbirds require a lot of patience.when i let mine out for the first time, they just wandered about on the top of the loft and the roof of the house.they suddenly took to the air and were everywhere.they started to drift in as the sun was going down but i still had three spend the night on the tiles.that went on for about 3 days, but now they are coming in when i want them to.try feeding them as soon as they come in after exercising, that way any that stay out go hungry they,ll soon get the message.but i wouldnt worry to much at this stage as long as they stay near the loft, they will be fine.
  2. i have 10 yb,s flying out, another 5 ready next week and 2 which i rung last night.my hens are sitting their third round of six eggs so far.its going to be tight but i might just do a few races this year so that i have got a good team of yearlings for next season.
  3. their exercising for about 20-30 mins and starting to bunch together.im having a few problems with the ferals that we have hanging around this area, left behind by a kind ex-fancier who lost interest and according to his neighbours left the birds locked inside the loft to starve.the birds were let out and the loft was knocked down.thats why we have about 35 birds just hanging around the roof tops.he should be prosecuted for what he has done.
  4. he was gone for almost 2 days, wish i could find out where the trainers took him.
  5. try telling that to my misses ;D ;D.
  6. their doing very well, really pleased with them.looking good to.
  7. wondered why he had paul waz ere written all over him. ;D
  8. hi paul.had a discussion about this yesterday with another fancier and we both agreed that to much medication for different ailments can actually lower a birds resistance.when we come down with the s---s for example,we let it run its course.maybe sometimes its better to let a pigeon recover from less serious complaints on his own.a subject for discussion i think.
  9. the above mentioned youngster returned this morning(weds)tired and hungry/thirsty.not sure where he got to but he,s back thats the main thing.paul
  10. my younsters got taken by a training bunch on sunday afternoon.they all came back except one-whu2009n00732.he is a cheq cock and quite tame.half of his tail feather are not fully grown where he is heavy in the molt.if anyone has him, please pm me so that i can arrange collection.he,s the first youngster i ever bred and i have become attached to him.thank you
  11. hello everyone.a few months ago i joined this site as a ex-fancier starting back up after 22 years away from the fancy, starting from scratch again has been a real challenge but its all coming together now.the loft built, the birds sorted(thanks for everyone who helped) and the young birds bred,i am now starting to train my first round of ten youngsters.shortly after weaning i placed the youngsters in a basket at various points in the garden where they could see the loft and their close surroundings.even though they had a good look around i still had three spend the night out on the tiles on their first day out, they were more than happy to come in the next day though.their exercising well now for about 10-15 mins and starting to form a small group when flying.the only minus is that two are landing on the roof of my house and staying up there for about 10 mins before they come down, they are younger than the others and i do keep to a strict feeding regeim,so a few times going without a feed will soon change their minds about coming straight in.i will have another nine ready in about 2 weeks.i am aiming for about 27 in total which isnt many i know but it is my first yb season for 23 years so it doesnt hurt to take it easy at this stage.i plan to have some fun this year, trying just a few selected races, that way i should have some good yearlings for next season.how are the rest of you getting on with your young birds.paul
