  8. put your head gently on his or her chest.you can hear how heavy he or she is breathing.there should be no rattling or weasing.if there is then she is close to.............there may be a resp proplem that needs treating. :'( :'(
  9. somebody got it then.sorry to be crude. ;D ;D ;D
  10. go down the loft i mean.
  11. thats what i was just about to say.it makes me sneeze when i clean out,god knows what it does to the birds airways.and beleive me its like a silentnight factory every morning when i go down, feathers everywhere.
  12. there is a good article in this weeks bhw on page 26 concerning paratyphoid.another disease to look out for.i was surprised to learn that your birds could have it and not show any symptoms at all and just be carriers of the disease.
  13. glad their on the mend,do you know what the illness was.
  14. thats a good sign.
  15. have you noticed any illnesses affecting your birds recently, outbreaks of pmv, cocci, circco and yb sickness are occuring all over the uk.lets try to get a piture of what is going on.
  16. i also had an outbreak of pmv this year, although symptoms were not as severe as yours.i lost one bird but tests revealed that it was circco virus that killed the bird not pmv.my birds were treated with elctrolytes in the water to rehydrate them and a course of vitamins was given to help their immune systems recover.the birds came through it all on their own and are in tip top condition now.i know it seems hopeless at the moment but keep plugging away because if you cull and get a new set of birds in the same thing could happen again in the future and you will still be none the wiser about how to treat them.paul(strapper)is a mine of information on this subject,he may be able to point you in the right direction.from your posts it sounds that whatever has infected your birds has got a real hold there so it is going to be very difficult to cure, but there are loads of fanciers on here who want to help including myself,so keep on posting and let us know how things are progressing.paul
  17. dont give up just yet,see it through to the end and keep trying to save them.i nearly gave up but decided to bring in everyone i could think of to help me.birds are over it all now and looking fine.can you post some pictures of droppings etc so that we can help you.oh and if your going to use a vet make sure they have a bird specialist otherwise they will fob you off and tell you anything to get rid of you after they have taken your money.the first thing we need to do is find out exactly what your birds are suffering with.yb sickness is to broad an answer from the vet ask them to be more specific with their diagnoses.
  18. i have had two birds attacked by hawks this year so far, both have managed to get home with horrific injuries.i have found that a pigeon has amazing healing capabilities and is best left alone to tend his own wounds.as long as there is no bleeding all you have to do is keep a close eye on the bird,if he,s really badly wounded put him on his own in a basket but near to the other birds to make him feel safe and calm.you will be amazed at how quickly they recover.its up to you whether or not you give antibiotics but unless a infection is evident i would not bother.give him some time and he will be fine, please, please do not kill just because he has a bit of bad luck.
  19. sounds like he has a secound home to go to as well as yours.
  20. pm,ed you.
  21. we found out today that we could all be unemployed soon.i thought that i would be safe but i thought wrong.somehow i will give what i have promised.
  22. due to a personal problem.i am unable to fulfill my pledge of two young birds for auction and my £50 donation that i promised.i realise that this is going to inconvenience a lot of people and i am truly sorry that i can no longer make this offer.as soon as the funds become available i will of course make the donation, but at this time i cannot say when i will be able to donate. if i could pay i would but my job is now under threat and i need to conserve what i have.i hope you can all understand why i am doing this.paul
  23. finished,give me some more. ;D ;D
