  1. Thanks mate and there was nearly 500 birds total and where my loft is there are 5 other fanciers also so that was 200 odd birds from our plot of land which i had the first 8 birds home not long after i had all 13 back safe and sound so really really pleased with it and for my son too whos been down there every day on his school holidays scrapping feeding and letting them out at 8am and whistling them in when i take them down the road so it was only fair he whistled the birds on race day which was brilliant to watch when them 2 birds dropped to him
  2. Well finished second which was always going to be the case against back wind for winner and 25 mile shorter race, against mine who had head wind last 20 odd mile and it was close so i was very happy with the result and dont know what all the worry was about hahaha beat all in the area with 2 of my birds bro and sis coming 2 minutes before anything in around our area so thanks all for your input in the past ,it really does help the noobies
  3. first race is 83 miles and also the second and im also getting nervous now.
  4. first race is 8th this saturday they have been down the road 24 times up to now with about 15 chucks of them at 20 mile
  5. Hi Wiley yes they are out the loft and gone for an hour plus in mornings and in afternoon I have been putting them out to 20 mile 3 evenings a week its the other 4 evenings I was worried about but now you explained about feed I understand it a bit more now and if I fed heavier in morning they would fly better in evening is that right even though its only 7hours between feeds ?
  6. Thanks for that guys ,maybe the others are getting worried as its our first race at the weekend
  7. Was just curious about this as im new to the sport so here goes, my young birds go out at 8am and I don't see them again for an hour then they come in for feed to the whistle but in the afternoon I let them out at 3pm and they don't seem to do more than 10 mins so is this right or should I be worried about it ? the birds are on natural this season till i get another loft built and i feed them light in morning and their main feed in the evening ,someone said its too soon between exercise for them and they shoud be at least 9 to 10 hours between letting them out, so should they do an hour in morning and an hour in evening too or just let them do as the choose ? they have also had a good few tosses to 20 mile and make it back from 21 to 25 mins.
  8. I have 13 young birds that do 20 mile chucks in 21 to 22 mins but when I go to 20 mile from a location further left as we race from two different lines here the birds are 30 mins or more even after 5 chucks from same place so why is that ? i noticed from the second training line to the left of first one mine go even further left hence the 30 mins but on the first training point they clear straight for home.

    Young Birds

sorry to sound dumb ,this is all new to me so i have my young out flying for some days well over an hour and they have been on high protien mix to build muscle and then i put them on gerry plus but ive noticed they have a deep dark red breast and not as plump as i thought they should be so i was wondering if i have over done the loft flying even though they only go out once a day and since like april i think they have only had 1 day not going out due to weather so could they be in need of a couple of days rest to relax the muscles and freshen up so to speak ? they have been on gerry plus for about nearly 2 weeks now and they also have access to the aviary 24/7 and with them flying so well i didnt think it would be respo problem and they also get what they want to eat when i feed them and never starved .any ideas anyone please
  12. ive got a few ideas ,thanks for the input
  13. im not sure I follow Andy im a bit thick like that.
  14. do you think that ronnie williamson type vent in the roof would stop the snow getting in ? as i like the idea of this
  15. Hi All What would be the best ventilation to use on my new loft im about to build ,now ive built one loft but the big problem I get is when it snows in winter the snow swirls up and comes straight in the loft through the gap at the top ,i have no electric where my loft is and don't want to be travelling back and forth to close flaps on vents etc so is there any other way of getting good ventilation that would work well and not let the snow in. atb Nick
