  1. trying some brasspenings (louella) crossed into an old ken hine family to speed them up a bit ,might work or might not well see,i know when i worked with the lurchers and wanted more speed into them a good greyhound was used, and when i wanted stamina and brains a good working collie was used but lost the speed but that was dogs, cant see why it wouldnt work with pigeons, good pigeons.
  2. 14 before id read other answers, although if he isnt a prisoner they dont really show their age.
  3. The long term forcast dictates how many i rear if a bad summer is forcast ill think twice of rearing to many as i dont want a loft of half trained youngsters threw into races to take their chance, thats not racing and we all know what kind of summers we get nowadays, but lets hope.
  4. 20 but hope only to rear 10 maybe 12,cant be bothered with any more, been there done that .
  5. cracker good luck look after it that will last you a lifetime.
  6. very wet and windy here in northern ireland.
  7. enjoyed as couldnt make it this year,it looked busy enough.
  8. forgot to say hand fed peanuts also to keep them tame and i never fail from channel racing with this hopper fed method.
  9. hopper feed probably a belgium widowhood mix,let them throw it everywere if they want but dont refill till last grain is cleared up,if you have a floordressing down the wasted food should stay clean, ive fed this way for 20 years and it works a treat, when they get used to this method of feeding they no longer throw the food about,if you think there getting heavy half barley mix or when channel comes a half bean mix, really you have no option but to hopper feed working them hours and work comes first, try it stick with it you will perfect it given time, good luck.
  10. this has been going years, two years ago 20 pound notes were been sold for a fiver so this is nothing new, there is no way of checking them at shows or markets and they cant be banked as its goodbye to your money, pity really its spoiling it for us all,it can only make the stall holders think twice of having a stall their again.
  11. the base of this product is cider vinegar, yes i use it but also see no difference in birds condition.
  12. well have been to a moot were alan darragh give a talk on it and he said he treats his,but as far as i know in my area club etc it is unheard of,also heard it can make cocks unfertile ,my own thoughts are leave well alone as i know ill never be treating, also alan blamed the imported pigeons coming in from the continent but how come the town pigeons dont get wiped out by this,do they become immune, nobody treats them,i really think we should be looking elsewere for so many losses, darkness maybe one of them, asking to much from a babys head on a adult body.
  13. excellant birds ,i buy every year of them for stock, usually yearlings but i cross them with birds that have flew the channel for me,if not crossed they are easily lost due to being to inbred but crossed out then in again and they do the job it gives me up to date winning bloodlines at a reasonably price, with louella everything is for sale nothing held back but be carefull buying from sales unless complete clearance as your only buying the birds the owner doesnt want, selling something means you dont want it,think about this,it took me 20 years to find this out but i did ,so all in all a big yes from me for louella.
  14. just starting to rain here newtownards co down.
  15. My first time to,first time not going, will miss badly ,it hurts big time but hope to be back next year, you will enjoy it and weather is to be kind,GOOD LUCK ENJOY.
  16. keep using it and let us know the outcome,if it is the well water keeping them right ill not be long getting some for my own birds.
  17. my club has 10 bricons 2 unikon 2 benzing the most easiest system to set etc is benzing ,bricon never any problems with time signals but unikon we always have problems getting signals,in fact that bad we just leave it turned on all racing season ,also after sales for bricon is A1 mark palmer day or night hes always there, nothing ever seems to be any bother for him.
  18. I mine do they sit on the roof all nite when a cat comes about the place, the cat doesnt even need to be in my garden they see it a couple of gardens down ,i have dogs running my garden so it doesnt come in,to me this is out of the ordinary as they never get used to it,another word for it is spooked, cracks me up big time, and sometimes fly all nite, they maybe dont see it often enough to get used to it,they fly open loft 24/7/365.
  19. has to be owen
  20. blowing a south easterly gale here with heavy rain on the east coast of northern ireland, not a very promising start to 2014.
