  5. i bought in 3 birds from kerr stainthorpes sale in the winter to try a wee cross 1 cock was 50th open arras national the other 50th open reims national and a stock hen one cock bred 1st club 7th sect 11th open 1600 birds in the last yb race paired to my spin hen the other 2nd club charnock yb and the hen a 6th club yb and plenty off them left that have flown every race so im deff pleased with them so far and they will be tested hard again next season as yearlings and two year olds out to national level but so far so good but they will not be paired to my best hens again untill the ones i have prove they can do it on the big stage

  11. i love to plan out my matings for next year and how many ill take off them i like to inbreed and line breed back to my best racers my deep litter gets lifted and loft sprayed and new easy bed put down for the winter and i am trying to get some heating sorted out in the stock lofts in case we get another bad winter need a cheaper idea for heat before the wife kicks me out past few years i put heating bulbs in each section i have two stock lofts one 10 by 6 the other 16 by 4 but this one is split into 5 small sections for one pair in each so i had 5 bulbs in that loft and 2 in the other on 24 7 in the very cold weather the lecky bill went through the roof lol so have to think of something else

  13. think its a cock m8 the aardens can be a bit hen headed but its a bold one
  14. i have been lucky enough to win my club old bird and combined average three years running with 12 or so national tickets in the past four years plus fed west sect combined ave last year so winning the club ob and com ave with 5 first club and 1 first sect with 18 national tickets and in the running again for the west sect ave in the fed againt 30000 thousand birds in the section i am over the moon highlights this year 1st club 2nd sect fed 8th sect national ypres and having such a good race in clermont national being 11th 35th 98th open but was very disapointed not to get one on the night so i guess this has been my best season so far and one of my very best years for learning your neaver to old to learn lol one thing i learned this year is when your winning out of turn watch your back you become a bassa in some peoples eyes the green eyed monster is after you sportsmen eh
  15. deff andy they have won the sprint cup one year one got 300 pounds in yrl derby the next and this year one 1st club 1st sect 2nd open otterburn 5000 birds with a few scoring in newbury national and maidstone national as 2yr old late breds m8 treat them right and you will get a turn with them my mistake this year was keeping them going because i had to many birds was not losing them so i pushed them on to newark and leicester and they got hammerd with percy both races but they give me some thing to do in off season and keep me in the hunt in the early races and there allways off my best birds andy they do a job for me
  16. ps forgot to say and you have to keep your birds healthy
  17. i split my team into three different teams each team has a different goal i breed about 20 late breds they get 6 to 10 tosses the year they are born from 12 to 20 miles in octtober and november when percy has moved on they are then put in a section on there own and are out every day all winter and they range every day like yb in all weathers with no old birds to hold them back then in feb they get 15 to 20 short tosses again from 12 to 20 miles they then go into the training van for another 10 tosses with other birds learning to break and there ready this is my team for the first 4 or 5 races then stoped about 160 to 180 miles then the yearlings take over they are paired mid to late feb there goal is to race from 160 to 350 miles the old bird team is paired mid to late march a few tosses and into a 150 mile race then a 260 0r 280 and there goal is from 350 to 500 miles each team are flagged seperately and went no farther than 25 miles in training with 3 25 mile tosses between each race unless they have had a very hard race i was allways told as a young lad you cant win in club and fed and do well in the nationals its one or the other which is rubbish the late george rankin did it for years winning from 60 to 600 miles but you have to work much harder to do both and you have to get the right birds that can work to your sistem and can win from sprint to distance you can get distance birds to hold there own in the sprint races with fitness and motavation but very few sprinters can hold there own at distance races unless its an easy race with the wind at there back there are some but not many finding a family that can do both is hard or you get two or three families to do different jobs but no matter how good your birds are you the fancier has to set your goals then do the work imo
  18. thanks andy
