well guys even with my wee bit of sucess in this years shows im still of the opinion that no matter who the judge is no one fancier can tell a good racing pigeon from a bad one yes they can pick your best handler or best looker but so can any novice and the reason they cant is there is no difference between a good racer or breeder and a bad one yes now and then a judge will be lucky and pick out a good racer and everyone will think he knows something rubbish its luck we all have this idea in our head what a good racer or breeder handles like or looks like but the majority of good racers or breeders are just not like that its only a mans opinion and a bit of fun in the winter nights and a chance to get together and talk s e anyone who thinks differently is wellcome to come to my loft and pick out my winners and enlighten me

i used hoppers years ago because of work situ but unless you use a single grain in the hopper the birds will waste a lot of grain bye throwing it out to get to what they want and the only way round this is to put only one type of grain in each hopper so the more types of grain you want to feed the more hoppers you need or one hopper with different grain in differnt parts of the hopper if you get what i mean like three different shoots in the one hopper one for beans or peas one for maze one for wheat or barlely but never mixed this way the birds take what they want without waste and you need to be able to shut the hopper down at night or devise something to keep the mice out hope this helps

i read all these books years ago and most were based on theory and opinion and found every now and then something would happen to stand it all on its head and could not be explained so i agree with owen better chance of winners breeding winners breeding winners but you have to start somewhere to find these birds and you need a bit of luck thats why i run my stock cocks with 5 or 6 hens each year and when i find the hen he breeds the best offspring with i keep them togethere because you could have the best breeding cock and hen already in your loft and neaver pair them togethere with genetics some birds paired togethere just click for no reason that can be explained and the only way to find them is the basket imo
