Absolutely fascinating guy he was. I have met him when I worked for Liverpool School of Trop Medicine where we had some very poisonous snakes and he came in to view them, with his British counterpart. these blokes are so laid back with these creatures and getting bitten by them does not faze them. I liked his attitude and he actually did massive work for conservation in Australia. RIP

Wirral would be on the flight path for these pigeons and it has been raining all day and the winds have been high. It is cruel liberating them today, great advertisement just what we need to boost our image John

Yes Rose I do believe that the result should be the true result but at what cost. This is why people get disheartened. I recall a story a fancier from this site told me about his football days. He played for a very good club at amateur level and they drew a team from a lower division who had no chance of beating them. The team was approached by the secretary and he said " I know you lads will win and win easy if you play your best but if you do these lads will pack in", the team still won by taking it easy and it still meant the other team carried on. Thanks for that Les I willalways remember that story as it is a great example of showing consideration and having common sense.

I would just like to add what has happened in my club. The three top fanciers all who send between them 180 pigeons per week. granted this birdage is paying the club, but of the cost only 7p goes to run the club. These three fanciers are having a competition between them as who can clock the most in.. even if the bird will not make top 10 in club never mind fed. the rest of the fliers are mainly fanciers who may get a good one now and again. This scenario is spoiling the club... Why because where do the workers come from...Not from these fanciers ill tell you..so what happens when the workers go to another club because they are rubbing their noses in it week after week.. this week at clock opening we had four members to strike clocks, open them read them and check them.... This what happened in our club due to overclocking...How many more clubs have gone this way. so when their are no clubs left to race in then will you be justified in saying if their birds are there to be clocked, clock them!

Tammy I see where your coming from and nobody would like to win a "Fixed show or race" But there is no fairness and if the "experts" would just have a little consideration and then maybe we may be able to keep some of the fringe fanciers, otherwise people will end up flying against themselves. I am of the opinion if you want to be the best you have to beat the best, but this situation is killing the sport more than the hawks etc... we are own enemies as far as this is concerned. John

this will continue as long as pigeon racing does, but it is destroying the sport. why do so many new clubs form nowadays. fanciers need to have a little common sense and only time in a couple. If your top flyer wins week in and week out what is a 4th place to him.... yet you might have your bread and butter fancier who may take one 4th place and this could keep him going for another season. There is no need for the fancier who clocks in only two yet could have taken 1- 5 to tell anyone he could have, it is in his own mind he knows. I cant believe the response to Chris saying he gifted the place to the lad.. He may have done but this act could keep that lad in the sport for another couple of seasons. we have to be sensible here, after all this sport is not fair at the best of times...where else does a new starter compete against the best on an even field.... Most sports have handicaps about time the pigeon game has one also. Imagine if Man Utd or Chelsea competed against the likes of Chester city or Accrington Stanley.. How long would these clubs last before they disbanded..sound familiar.. food for thought

I broke mine (apart from the odd stubborn ones) in a few days. i paired them up and let them out (with hens locked in box). first time they took to the sky they went home. I got them in the old loft and took them straight back and opened the basket in front of the loft with doors open. I spent the whole day doing this. Next day let them out and repeated the process. the following day let them out and all except two stayed. one thing i did notice is when you split them they go back looking for the hens in the first season. last season I did not have the probelm. then you can repeat the process with the hens John

This year seems to be bad yet again for losses... what is happening... few years ago if you where some missing on the night they would be there waiting to go in next morning... It seems if they are missing by clock strike they dont return John
-
Hi all 2nd and 6th out of 410 birds, way down in fed as all birds overshot, so the longest flyers clocked before the shorter flyers so win the race easily. missing 4 John
