Celtic At present as it in scotland it should not affect us in England. Do not think you will get racing out of scotland and personally would not fancy your chances of racing into Scotland. If it is found in England or wales feel it will spell the end of racing for this year. John

Hyacinth A quckstart is a thimble holder that sits on top of the clock handle and it holds the two halfs of the thimble open and you just place the rubber in the middle and push the ends together and the thimble falls in the clock bucket, aids in helping you not to drop the rubber or thimble John

Dear all I was just wondering if you thought that if two fanciers has a T3 one has qucikstart and the other doesnt, IS IT UNFAIR THAT OTHER MAY GAIN A SECOND USING THE QUICKSTART. But that is still permitted Personally feel it should be down to choice and progression

Hi slatey No doubt but I would wonder what the % of good pigeons is compared to the crap ones. Best birds are those you get for nowt
-
Not sure if anyone would have seen this but this morning around 7-45 there was a short piece on Childrens TV regarding a young pigeon fancier (around 13) probably last season. It looked at his pigeons and followed him to the clubhouse looking at the marking etc. Then the lib was filmed and then him awaiting and clocking in. A good piece really, a young person possibly helping other young fanciers taking up the sport.

Jason I could do the bhw if you wish, but will probably be afew weeks before it appears John

I would like to remain optimistic but if one case hits the shoreline then DEFRA will say No. I feel we will have to respect this decision or we will never be able to convert the views of the narrow minded public. we are finding it hard enough now, we will have to be seen to be doing the right things, we dont need the pigeons being blamed for this. Guys it would be a good idea to inform Mr Bryant of what is going on a result of the paper, or should I say comic cant believe people read this rubbish anyway.

This is from RPRA.org IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!!!! - WEDNESDAY 22ND FEBRUARY 2006 I have sent out the following press release after receiving details of a report attributed to Ken Livingstone, the London mayor. Thank you to all the fanciers out there that are keeping me informed of all the rubbish that is being published in the media. I will endeavour to correct all the misleading articles that I can. PRESS RELEASE RACING PIGEONS AND AVIAN INFLUENZA Concerns raised by London Mayor Ken Livingstone about the risk of pigeons spreading avian influenza (AI) are totally exaggerated. Pigeons carry no more threat than any other variety of bird and are certainly less likely to be carriers of AI than the waterfowl in the London parks. Considerable veterinary research has been conducted on the effects of AI on racing pigeons and vets have concluded that racing pigeons are resistant or minimally susceptible to infection of High Pathogenic AI or Low Pathogenic AI. (source: Perkins LE, Swayne DE and www.avian-influenza.com ). The Royal Pigeon Racing Association has been working closely with DEFRA to ensure that its members follow general licence conditions imposed by DEFRA on 21 December 2005. This will ensure that racing, showing and sales of racing pigeons can go ahead. Contrary to reports in the Daily Star on 21 February 2006 racing is not banned for 2006. Contingencies are in hand should an outbreak of AI be confirmed in Britain and Britain’s fanciers will act accordingly and appropriately. Residents living near pigeon fanciers are asked to consider the scientific facts and not to listen to the scaremongering of public servants who clearly have an ulterior motive for their words. Racing pigeons carry little risk of transmitting or catching AI. Peter Bryant, General Manager WELL DONE MR BRYANT

Also Rose Leahurst is where I work and the centre will still be a while away yet but plans are well advanced for the centre. we have some of the leading names in animal science here, but without trying to dampen the positives in this, the pigeon knowledge is far greater on this site than we have here, so maybe it may bring in a leading name in pigeon health who knows John
