  1. Rose My reply was in no attended to be derogatory in any way, it is just that I am sec of Fed, sec of Amal and delegate for combine. I am 33 and I am by way the youngest in the fed. I come across so much crap it is unbelievable and all from "older" fanciers who are still going on about how it was in the 60's. everyone realises the sport is in decline and will continue to do so until the older generation let us take more of an active role unhindered by the old ways. Without my and jason generation being allowed to try and take the sport forward when these older fanciers have gone we wont have a sport to take forward. Most are concened about what is happenong now rather than what will happen. Totally agree about the support point of view John
  2. Just to add something about the RPRA council and introducing "younger blood". Go to any meeting around the country and look at the average age, then tell the members there is a job up for grabs for secretary "can we have any proposals"...... Silence. the council maybe old but nobody else wants the job. Rose not a swipe at you but would you do it? Younger people are discouraged from taking active roles Especially up here it is a case of the old know best... and your still wet behind the ears. The sport has brought this on themselves. If people feel they could do a better job then simply apply to council through your region. John

  7. Gez lets hope this is just "dead birds" rather than bird flu. Personally feel it is only matter of time before it hits here. John Gez did you stay at the Norbreck at Blackpool?
  8. Gez On local news this morning, two ducks dead found by public, tests currently underway, lets hope it is false alarm John
  9. An unconfirmed "case" in Preston Lancs this morning.... Lets hope not.
  10. alan I applaud your efforts and it is a great thing you are doing for the school and maybe you might plant a seed or two. You only have to look around Blackpool to see the age of our fanciers now. At 33 i am a young un in pigeon terms. Personally and this is my own opinion based on my situation. I feel it is the older generation we should be looking to recruit... This may seem odd but a young girl or boy will enjoy the sport for a few season then probably leave due to school university and work, this will probably plant the seed and maybe they will come back. Nowadays both parents have to work to get on, and in alot of situations it is they are on alternate shifts beacuse of children.. Now to enable to race pigeons well you have to put the time in and to be able to put the time in you need to have it in the first place. children especially young are demanding and they have their interests aswell which sometimes clash with sat liberations. then you have two choices let them do their activities or say no because of the birds, then the children resent the birds as they stop them doing what they want. Once the children are grown up and can do their own activities instead of being taken to them then you have more time for the birds. As I said earlier this is only my humble opinion but based on my experiences pigeon racing will be alot easier and i will be able to compete more in a few years time. If the systems dont change then the children if coaxed into the sport will leave. pigeon racing is the only sport where novices compete against the best on a level field, a 12 year old will race against someone with 45 years experience, the working man against the unemployed or rich person who does not have to work. In my eyes it is one of the best sports/ hobbies you can compete in but one of the most unfair. Alan once again keep it up as one of those kids may take up the sport and the bug will be set then. john

Cheers Marvin I have a clearer picture now John
  12. Hi All I believe the cost of the ferry to Guernsey to be £800 one way. So unless feds get together it is going to be an expensive race. Also it seems the whole of england wants to go there but there is just not enough space. John

  17. Mike that is one of the the biggest reasons why people on the Wirral would have very little chance of winning the mnfc. Look how much of a dog leg we have to fly. We are one of the most westerly places in the uk.

  24. Carl Your idea on clocking 16 if you have them is destroying clubs. if you clock 16 you will end up flying against yourself, you should be happy in the knowledge knowing you could take first 16 if you so desired rather than rubbing noses in it. nowadays you have to think of new starters. This is just one thing that is killing the sport. It is fact that flyers will not raise to the challenge but look for easier clubs to race in. not everyone will lokk at it your way. people get easily downhearted. Imagine a non league football team playing in the premeir league, how many fans would they end up with after getting beat 9-0 every week... not many and the same with pigeon racing you have to look at yourself and ask what would clocking in 16 each week do to the club.... It is happening all over the country now... There are only 5 cards so why clock 16... Tactics is required nowadays to keep this sport alive.
