  5. Bob used to have show racers many years ago and has just got back into them as he was finding it difficult to race.
  6. with all the people giving up racing i don't know why they don't take up showing as it is just as hard and involved, conditioning are feeding correctly as it is racing.
  7. Stall traps, saves catching the bird and doesn't make them nervous of trapping but will be replaceing them with sputnik/ets traps.
  8. it just goes to show how many organisations do not agree with the RSPB policys
  9. when racing at Oxford, always tried to get youngsters to gurnsey, it was always a good education for them seeing the water but anly about 170m.
  10. Little Sam, there arn't that many Show Racer society's around and not in your area although there may well be fancy pigeon shows with show racer classes but the standard isn't usualy that good. The nearest SRS may be the Midlands which is just off junction 9 on M6.

  13. depends how old they are.
  14. they will have taken cover and then stayed there when the rain started, give them chance to dry out this morning and they will start working in.
  15. Did you pm Bill?
  16. welcome and enjoy.
  17. 1) How much of your time does it take up daily + Weekly? No more time than looking after any birds, keep loft clean, feed water etc. A lot of time can be taken traveling to shows. 2) What would be good breeds to start SHOWING? Pick an easy breed to start with but firstly decide on a flying breed like racer/show racers, tumblers etc or a fancy breed. If you go for a fancy breed, find a show to go to and have a look at the diferent breeds, talk to the breeders before making a dessicion. 3) How much space do the pigeons require and how would you give them this (sheds, rabbit hutche, ect) As with any, what ever size shed you have don't overcrowd it. Its much easier to keep birds clean than to have to clean them every time you want to show them. 4) How would you start up if you were going to start from scratch with mimimal costs?? Get a shed/loft, decide on what birds you want and then ask around and see what becomes available.
  18. what birds have you got now?
  19. know who your mates are! lol
  20. now Peter, we are talking about the BHW & RPRA here, they will take any add if its paid for!
  21. its people like that who give the genuine fanciers a bad name, especialy if there are birds left out sitting on roofs etc.
  22. thats realy what the above treatment is for, sour crop not YBS, where yes they do hold food but also have other problems that a charcoal tablet won't cure. IMO
  23. they are only coming to your loft and in with your birds because they are not being cared for. Mine may fly with my neighbours but i've never had a single bird go in with his nor have any of his been in my loft. Speak to him politly but does he race or just keep them for pleasure? You could say you have had a complaint from a neighbour thinking the birds out were yours so maybe before he gets a complaint he would like to get them under control!
  24. Are you selling your secrets then! ;D ;D ;D
  25. I'm not sure what his son is called and also think he may have a brother who raced/races.
