  3. Drinks all round on Steve is it? sounds good to me!
  4. We had a few cards but didn't take a lot of birds due to my wife being in hospital and our baby ariving on 5th Jan, 10 weeks early. Year before we were judgeing so look out next Jan!
  5. Broken Cloud and suns broken through here. Wind has dropped from yesterday but expecting it to pick up again as the day goes on.
  6. Very roughly, the fancy people call mealy "Red Bar" etc but basicaly yes. There are colours on there that we don't see in Show Racers, Andulusian being one of them. Also there are no decent Whites (being worked on) or Blacks show racers either.
  7. I will try and find a pic showing hens colour/markings.
  8. Bob has asked a few questions about Show Racers and I thought it would be of interest to post the answers on the thread as there are no secrets amongst the answers. ;) Firstly do you personally encounter the same problems with YB Sickness and similar infections with your SR that people seem to get with normal racing pigeons. All birds can encounter problems but are treated the same way as the racers, I personally have never had YBS in them but I know others that have. We did via a friend get 12 fancy birds direct from germany, Our friend had tried breeding from them and was having problems, when we had them we treated them and have never had a problem since but they were/are kept seperatly. What is/are the best weekly/monthly magazines that cover show racers. There isn't a spacific magazine, the BHW has a bit about showing but the feathered world seems the choice of the fancy guys. And do you know the nearest SR club in this area. There are some Show Racer members in your area, the Rice's, Collin Bullard etc but i'm not sure which society they belong to. Do you know if there are many shows over this way (Norfolk) I don't think there are any large shows in your area now sisnce the East of England stopped but there are probably Fancy society shows that will have show racer classes. Do you keep your birds on a deep litter system, or the scraper on a daily basis. Through the winter i'll put them on deep litter shavings and scrape the perches daily, but it is easier to keep the birds clean than have to clean them for a show. What feed do you give your show racers. Mine are fed on YB no maize all year as they don't put fat on with it. What are the best books/videos that explain how to keep/feed/prepare SR for showing. The only book specificaly on Show Racers i think is Doug McClary's but i've never read it. It will give you the basics in there i would asume. Phil
  9. I totaly agree Bob, showing is a great side to the sport. As for mosaics, i know its not in the true sence because it only has 2 colours on each cover feather and should have the black edgeing. There are very very few cockbirds with the laceing, i think in 31 years of having had them i've only ever bred 1 true cockbird but every hen i keep is a true mosaic.
  10. yes
  11. keep reds/mealys together and blue/chequer together, never cross blue and red as any mealys will have dark bluey coloured heads only fit for the bin. blues will be ok though.
  12. occasionaly through the winter when we have decided what pairs we want for the next season and have disposed of anything that won't make the grade.
  13. NO NO NO
  14. no, they stay in. Used to fly them out but you risk damage etc and we are often moving birds between both our loft locations.
  15. Got about 10 cocks like him, and we cut down to about 25pair each year and breed about 50 ybs
  16. the mosaic cock has done a lot of winning, 7 x best in show at Midland srs, Supreme Champion msrs, Best in Show Southern Region, Best Opposite Sex Old Comrades, Best opposite sex Blackpool, winner of class 34 Blackpool for all show society champions plus loads of class wins.
  17. personally, i won't have a show racer in the loft with a white flight and make sure blues have got 2 good strong bars and are not faded to nothing.
  18. Its not a good time to get show racers. They are moulting and moving them at this time of year can cause them to fret which would render them next to useless for a season. Best wait until October when the birds will have moulted out and you can see what you are getting.
  19. no
  20. the main difference is body, show racer tend to be much tighter and muscular in body.
  21. The Show racers do carry a different ring though which isn't recognised for racing so to race them they would need to carry a normal ring.
  22. At the bigger shows they are split, show racer classes and racer classes. The racer classes are normaly for birds that will have to have flown. If a show racer has been raced it would also eligable for the racer classes.
  23. I think they have a slot there now for the pad to slide into.
  24. Not a good idea to buy unseen, better to see the birds handle them and get the type you are looking for. Some sellers will just sell what should be culls.
  25. but my paving is straight! ;D ;D ;D
