  2. hi mistyfire if you look at internet search, old hand elementals . you will see it there, hope this of some help to you, and wish you well with your pigeon. jimmy white.
  3. i have had an answer to my few questions, direct from dr mittal ,, purdue university q. in your view would or could this virus reach the u,k, dr mittal, the probability of spreading this virus to any country including the u.k. is very high. dr mittal has kindly asked me to ask any questions that pigeon fanciers in the u,k, might want to ask, so if you give me your questions ,i shall forward them all together, and lets see what we can make of it all jimmy white i have a few other answers to my questions ,but having my printer reset and repaired very soon but it would be very interesting to have a list of questions we could ask, and a list of answers to these questions, all on the one page so ask away and well see what happens jimmy
  4. this sounds to me as like doostalker says, post laying paralysis, but would still consult your vet,,,i have seen this many times before [if it is this] and can be put right within a few hours by giving old hands ,,,,elementals
  5. no offence meant pigeon man, but i personally would not give this advice to a beginner, i think deep litter is ok if your a bit experienced, but this has to be utterly bone dry, any dampness at all would cause problems, the droppings alone under the perches would give off a lot of ammonia, which would rise to the birds above , breathing it in, i understand what your saying , that this could possibly build the birds immune system, but cannot see that this thick layer of droppings would do any good.i myself have a deep litter system, this is mainly due to dissability, but it is shavings , sprayed every day, raked every day, and perches and boxes scraped and sprayed every day and the worst of it binned every day and i try and change it as often as possible, but one thing it is bone dry, as i said pigeon man no offence is meant, and this is only my opinion , jimmy
  6. rose,,im just glad your son had his hand that way and not the other ha ha lovely photo, just looking through these fancy breeds, they are stunning birds and some cracking photographs.
  7. these things would be ok snowy but bleach and jeyes fluid would have to be bone dry when you get the birds in ,as if it were still damp would it would actually burn there feet , but after reading the litratire on virkon s, would have no hesitation recommending thi p.s hope the 2 latebreds are doing well [ the 2 sirs]
  8. question i would like to know ? can pigeons store vit c i had heard some time ago that pigeons couldnt store vit c,,but to be honest , i dont know maybe some forum members can help jimmy
  9. agree with fifer, but would maybe add ,just to give a small amount of black minerals,[kilpatricks] as this tends to draw the dampness, and when damp, can have a detrimental use, as can be a haven for oocysts, if left lying, same as the grit. as far as cleaning its better if you can do this daily as it only takes a few minutes really, and .if left becomes a big job.i use the empty household plastic spray containers filled with a strong solution of vircon s , and spray this around the loft freely , it dries very quickly this way , there are many other good disenfectants, but after receiving some info from preston powerblast, ive found that virkon s is the daddy of them all,, all the best jimmy
  10. ive e mailed purdue university, with most of the questions were all asking, ive had a return, e mail, saying,,,,,qoute.,,, my questions on avian flu have been forwarded to the researchers, to see if they can answer part, or all of your questions,, purdue university. ,, so i wonder if, or when i will get any answers, well see, jimmy.
  11. well it does sound like a cock and hen, they are a bit young, it is late in the season so i would agree with other posts let nature take its course, im sure theyll be ok in the end, maybe early next year mix a little wheat germ oil in their food, and a little hemp seed, just to get them started, would help
  12. p.s if you didnt want to use antibiotic [which at this stage i wouldnt be inclined to use] i would try cider vineger in the water for a week [a good strong dose] then see if theres any differance, i should imagine there would be
  13. the one way to tell if its one eye cold or a pick in the eye if its one eyed cold youll see small bubbles on the bottom eye lid if it is one eyed cold its usually linked to respiratory probs..maybe just one or two birds will show the symtoms, but you can be sure its there in the loft, which means that other birds that dont have the symptoms, still can be effected i,e the third eye lid not working as it should, which is a great disadvantage as this third eyelid works as a kind of windscreen wiper etc.
  14. your right , never change a winning system it seems youve had a good season and all the very best to you for that BUTi would look in to it very carefully, and after that would ask you , do you really think it was this expensive stuff youve gave them that made such a good season, or put it this way if we all used all this expensive stuff would we all have had a good season, i would kinda think again, but congrats on a good season anyway jimmy
  15. just to explain to any beginner, all this great expensive stuff they sell, and make a fortune from , is utterly useless for the price, i worked for one of the bigest , no sorry the dearest firms,,great labels , great made up names and great business strategy. at blackpool we were drawing 20.000 pounds in 3 days one thing i did notice, we never sold much to the ,,greats,, only the gullable ,much of the usefull stuff can be purchased very cheaply from chemist or supermarket, and thats if you want to use it??? and bruno i would give you something for your sore head, but my parrotsetamol ;D ;D ;D his name is max :) cheers matey
  16. garlic is one of the best things for health, many, many great qualities and its natural in fact so old a remedy, that the EGYPTIANS used it,,my MUMMY told me that ;D ;D ;D no speckled is spot on with her post above, these things are very cheap but very effective, and fifer i hope you meant the pigeons bath and not mine ,ive little friends the way i am, only kidding fifer , iknow what you mean and your quite right, p.s. enjoyed your jokes, keep em comming ;D ;D ;D jimmy
  17. reading the last few articles leads me to beleive that most fancier are taking this seriously, one very interesting quote from my last print out,,,,,,,MANY PEOPLE BELEIVE THAT THE VIRUS WILL MUTATE AND BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD, MITTAL SAID ,, THE QUESTION IS WHEN? ARE WE PREPARED? WE HOPE THAT SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS PROJECT WILL RESULT IN DEVELOPEMENT OF AN ADENOVIRUS-BASED VACCINE EFFECTIVE AGAINST PATHOGENIC AVIAN INFLUENZA VIRUSES.,,,,,,, HOGENESCH AND MITAL ARE BOTH MEMBERS OF THE CENTRES FOR COMPARATIVE MEDICINE, A COLLABORATION OF PURDIES COLLEGE AGRICULTURE, SCHOOL OF VETENARY MEDICINE AND THE INDIANA UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL. THE CENTRE RESEARCHES ANIMAL AND HUNAN DISEASES TO FIND NEW TREATMENT AND CURES. ive learned more from the posts on this forum, than a whole days trecking, to the dick vet, the maff, and the bush estate, where i learned nowt.
  18. blue cheq ., hmm a foot, but no footprints ,he must have come from above, grizzle., aye, the 14th storey of that hotel over there.
  19. i think we have to watch what we give the birds i.e/ jiff lemon juice garlic oil. some of these products contain preservatives and other additives, for me nothing beats a 20p garlic which will last for long enough and a ordinary lemon is very cheap
  20. maybe bruno you say its 0 out of 4 [uPTIL NOW] but i would certainly say 10 out ten for trying. youve put a lot of work in to this , i just hope its well appreciated ,as im sure it will be. i know its easy for me to say ,, keep up the good work,, but its damned hard work and a lot of time consuming. but weve all learned a lot through your [and other] posts, so in the meantime i think we should all do our bit, and as i said before ,post any info. on this forum, that we would think advantagous
  21. bruno, any of your articles in scotsman or gaurdian ? , ive missed them since sat, i certainly hope they print them jimmy

  24. HI WINGS, CAN YOU DO THAT WITH OLD BIRDS THOUGH? JIMMY
  25. in reply to brunos past post on wing stamping or i.d. ringing. he is spot on, BUT ,JUST TO STOP ANY CONFUSION, THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE IN YOUNG BIRDS,AS IT IS THE OPPOSITE RULE FOR OLD BIRDS. OLD BIRDS CANNOT BE EITHER WING STAMPED OR ID. RUNG ACCORDING TO S,H,U, THERE ARE ENGLISH ORGANISATIONS, THAT MAKE O,B, WING STAMPING COMPULSORY. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, JIMMY
