  1. REALLY FACINATING, LOOKED IN TO WEB SITES ETC ,VERY INTERESTING, AND REALLY SOME STUNNING LOOKING PIGEONS, ALL IN TIP TOP CONDITION :)
  2. IN THE LONGER YB RACES , I USUALLY, FOUND THAT THE HENS DO BEST [OVERALL]
  3. reading the information sent to me , i am, more than satisfied that VIRKON S is the best disinfectant of them all, this disinfectant has such multiple uses as a broad spectrum disinfectant , that it beats them all [ive looked at them all, or all i could find] one thing that did surprise me though, was that ALL DISINFECTIVES, are inactive below 4 degrees cent.but to read sex pages on this product has certainly got me convinced, and the uses are allmost end less, so im away now to put some in my tea , if you dont here from me again, youll know i was wrong ha ha. p.s may i add at[ the propper dilution] I HOPE P.B. IS NOT JUST AFTER MY WILL. VIRKON S BRILLIANT JIMMY
  4. ITS A LOT SIMPLER RACING WIDOWHOOD COCKS, KEEPING THE HENS KEEPS THE STRAIN , RACING ROUNDABOUT NEEDS MORE TIME, AND HAS ITS HICCUPS, BUT BOTH THESE SYSTEMS WILL PRODUCE RESULTS.
  5. have to say bruno [its getting on to bruno time haha]you said in an earlier post that you couldnt find anything offensive,,, in taking a sick bird to a fellow fancier ,the previous post explains this . youve never seen canker in years. well if someone brought a canker ridden bird to you., im quite sure you would see it then, in your own birds.i understand you were meaning well , and i could see what you were meaning, but you wouldnt catch it over the phone. phew that was a bit of a nasty one, hope you take the right way. jimmy
  6. i take it that if we disinfect, confine birds, and birdproof lofts aviaries etc that, this would have a desired effect, im now thinking of the foot and mouth epidemic, where we seen mass culls, and i think we will remember the government, without hesitation commanding this.so i take it that the same government could promt this very easy[.lets just hope not,], COULD they have any reason to ? IF we were to take all these measures...It seems to be the free flying birds that are the main risk.i,e geese, ducks ,and certain migratory birds, allthough im looking at the worst scenario, and the government ordered a mass cull ,like the foot and mouth disease, to me it would seem completely senseless, how could they possibly have a mass cull, when there are more feral pigeons, free flying, than racing pigeons, surely this would be an impossible task, just some passing thoughts at the moment .
  7. i see that power blast is working with chickens , farm animals etc and advises us to keep our lofts disinfected which im sure most of us would agree with, but i did notice he said STRONG disinfectant ,and [[sorry my freind bruno[ milton in the water, i wonder if you could recommend a proper and safe disinfectant that would be effective and suitable, for pigeons i.e for stepping trays at door entrance ,loft etc , i was looking up vanodine v 18 and wondered if this would be strong enough, for this. i know there are many disinfectants on the market, but i was thinking of something that was used agriculturally and strong enough to stop infection spreading. i take all the other points as bruno pointed out i,e, clothing ,footwear etc. i take it that vanodine is an iodophor, and that can be put in the water also . years ago we used aquas iodine, is that still on the market ,and would that be any good ? any good sugestions power blast? jimmy
  8. prof. dr. erhard kaleta, institut fur geflugelkrankheiten frankfurter strasse 87 d-35392 giessen germany wish it had been smith, no e mail supplied maybe someone can help.
  9. reading more about bird flu for the lay man, such as me. .... for more than a century, bird flu has been circulating among birds, particularly domesticated fowl, but recent attention has been called to avian influenza since some strains infected humans.no longer is bird flu relegated to pigs and birds,as the virus has strengthened and mutated, resulting in a contagion that can move from bird to human.human cases of bird flu have caused infections and death across the globe as scientists struggle to identify the dangerous strains and prevent a fatal pandemic. we long have known that avian flu existed in animals, often killing wild and domestic populations. these viruses belong to related kinds of flu. that can evolve and mutate just like any virus. we used to be primarily concerned with losing valuable birds that were providing eggs or meat to poultry farmers. however, in 1997 that changed when bird flu appeared to prove fatal for people in hong kong. a pathogenic, or active strain of bird flu will kill birds quickly and spread rapidly through a population. if a wild, , migratory bird catches flu , it can carry it many miles to other wild or domesticated groups.these viruses evolve in two ways, through DRIFT and SHIFT. DRIFT refers toinexact replication, such that newer viruses are further from the original genetic material, but share enough d.n.a. that they are still only spread amongst a single species, when a virus SHIFTS, it means that the genes of one virus mix, or breed, with a differant virus, usually inside a carrier.due to SHIFT, bird flu mixed with a human flu, and was thus able to infect humans through direct contact with birds....HUMAN CASES OF BIRD FLU ARE INCREDIBLY ALARMING,AND RAISED THE CONCERN OF VIROLOGISTS and government agencies in china and hong kong, vietnam, canada, and other countries. this iminent pandemic could only be controlled by vast slaughter of millions of fowl to contain the virus that spreads by air, water, and soil. the bird flu is especialy dangerous because our immune systems dont have any antibodies to handle something that used to be relegated to animals. thus, it takes hold with un precedented force, settles in the lungs, and resists anti viral and anti bacterial medication...... most health experts researching and fighting the incidence of human bird flu do not have an optomistic out look. they point out that the pathogen has not appeared to evolve such that human to human contact is con tagious, yet it remains that people working with fowl, swimming in infected rivers, playing areas where carcasses were buried, or breathing air near poultry processing plant, can lead to infection. ..... this is the definition of avian flu, according to the european comission, health and consumer protection directorate general
  10. in an earlier post, hyacinth is strongly saying press the unions, i noticed through all these posts, that bruno seems to have done this, to be forwarded is to be forearmed which is good and proper advice,i also have looked at brunos informative post, which at least gives us some insight to the problem, which i must admit i didnt know, but i suspect there are many others like me,i then read roses last comments, and have to agree with her. this is such a wide and varied topic, that every shred of information, from the proper places, should be posted. the last thing we should do is start the gossip brigade, as we know, or as i know, leads to no where, if you tell a pigeon fancier in the street some thing by the time it goes to the tenth fancier, its a completely differant story, so i say stick to the facts, and most of all find out the facts,, the true facts. most of the papers, news,tv. etc have come up with conflicting evidence, i for one will be reading and taking in all what is said and as i said b4 this is very worrying not only for pigeon fliers but for humans also.
  11. my query on the old hand water sterilizing tablets have been answered by fellow fanciers, they were hypochlorite and they worked, so at the moment im happy with the milton , but doing a few more tests, and hopefully get more information from a practising vet , should clear up things hopefully, remember im only talking about for crop infections, and not for continual usage as i advised on an earlier post, keeping the water clean , changing it twice a day is not a new thing ive been doing it for 50 years, but there are other places birds will drink from, when their out.sir colin who was 2 nat nantes, used to go to the tap sink in the yard where i used to keep them, at one time, this sink was filthy with the grey hound lads washing their dogs dishes etc etc there will be many that can verify that. the water was spotless in the loft, but he would persist on drinking this water, but i allways used to put milton in it, it never did him any harm he won 5000 pounds for me, so im sure you can see how i have my reservations on this subject jimmy
  12. this could possibly be respiratory problem [ i say possibly] have a look at the back of its perch see if theres any mucus or yellow snot, that should tell you.
  13. im glad to hear that rachel hes got over the breathing difficulties now,and to hear shes managed a smile, is so uplifting, god bless you rachel. were all thinking of you.
  14. after the last flight is up i will then go on a lighter diet and exrcise well then fortnight before pairing feed slightly stronger mix wiyh maze etc mixed in with some wheatgerm oil, when feeding young ,a very high protein diet, the birds will not eat the maze much anyway, whilst feeding, and much would be just waisted, afew peanuts whilst rearing bring on the ybs a treat
  15. hi speedbird remember its the pgeons droppings not yours ha ha good luck, and theres the ideal man only 8 miles away,
  16. good luck in race

  19. it amazes me to see so many yb races from otterburn and surounding areas, when there is an army training camp there,if you have been their you will have seen these fighter planes on exercise, they fly so low and so fast ,you actualy see them first before youhear them. the noise is horendous ,and this goes on every day, sometimes all day,now this does frighten the birds, as a few years ago a freind of mine in kelso, just let his 40 ybs out when woosh bang, these 40 ybs dissapeared, two of these planes almost split the batch these ybs were reported as far as100 200 miles away, when i say reported i mean about 8 aprox, i know this doesnt account for all the yb losses, but its a dangerous area, jimmy
  20. lovely photo ,samantha, is that you, jimmy
  21. hi bruno glad to hear from you . now im going to try the same experiment with salt and water ,only problam is ive no dirty cups now, which is unusual for me , hope you realize this is costing me a fortune on milton, the woman in sainsburys must think i have triplets at 60 haha ,think ill just let her beleive it, give my mind a treat, jimmy
  22. i have just recently received phone calls regarding forum members sniping [ as it were] at other,. members , when can we possibly hope to go forward with pigeons as long as that goes on, this can only lead to misery pain and suffering , which it seems some people get some sort of kick from, if they cant get there own way.would we not be better having a sensible debate, and try to get to the bottom of things, the way the likes of bruno and i debate ,we can still iron things out and debate ,and even agree to disagree, we can talk our mind to each other and not fall out, and i think thats the way it should be, im at least certain we wouldnt snipe at one another behind each others back, were willing to be open with each other.i wish there were more like that. im glad to say that most of the forum members are all helpfull to each other, jimmy white
  23. does any one remember the water sterilzing tablets that old hand used to sell, the name escapes me at the moment, they were in the same wee alluminium containers as harcanker, coryzium, vit c etc i dont even know if you can still get them, i know that coryzium capsules had to go off the market for some reason ,but they worked, but these sterilizing tabs, i would be interested to know what was in them, as they worked as well. can anyone help?
  24. hi bruno, as i said before ,i put milton and water in a stained cup with grain at the bottom, the cup was spottless after 10 mins i then put a cup of water with milton in, then put a birds beak infor a second till it bubbled, the result was cup spotless, i then done both these things but added feathers and even droppings, poured this out ,rinsed, cup spotless, now any one can try this them selves [3 differant cups coffee stained] now i really am at a loss as you say it becomes useless when ever it touches protein or birds saliva, surely this prooves the opposite, then you went on to say it becomes useless [salt and water]when its touched by human hand, well i even out my finger in the cup as well, same result, try this bruno and you will see for yourself i must be going off my nut please nobody answer that, but seriously try it
  25. yes its frightening ,,, for the humans
