    tips

as a keen new starter, youll want to run rather than walk, but thats only natural, and it shows how keen you are [which is an asset to begin with], but at the moment i would just concentrate on getting them flying well round the loft, getting them used to the basket i.e. feeding and watering in the basket now and again, and keeping their confidence in you [which i think they have]once theve been ranging and are about 10 or so weeks old , you can start tossing them, take them hungry and get them right in when they come home, and reward them, you can start off about 5 miles then work on further5.10. 15. 20,miles keep them at that for a while, till they just dissapear when you release them, lots of peple train yb differantly, but one thing i will say .is when you do start ,keep them going,,, i used to train up to 50 miles , but again thats up to the individual,,thers another old saying which is hard to adhere to,, is never put all your eggs in the one basket, but with your keenness you wont be long in picking it up. best of luck westy :) :)

  16. i used to race a lot of wildies which really did well for me ,even at the distance, providing it was a fairly fast race, most of these birds came fom charlie wooff who has become a great freind over the last 20 odd years, when these birds became fairly inbred ,i crossed a few with ,charlies brothers, les from staindrop, at the time they were mostly buschearts, these crosses did actually better, i had the other odd addition , that had been bred off proven birds,,for the real hard distance races , ifound that the old scottish winning birds were the best to breed from, and race, mainly kiskpatrick based
  17. exerpt from letter to mr marcos kypriano, european comission FURTHER, THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME UNPUBLISHED WORK OF SWAYNE. IN WHICH PIGEONS WERE INFECTED WITH ASIAN H5N1 STRAINS. SOME OF THESE PIGEONS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FULLY RESISTANT TO VIRUS. HOWEVER. ,THESE STUDIES WERE PERFORMED UNDER LAB. CONDITIONS IN WHICH THE AMMOUNT OF VIRUS USED FOR INFECTION IS MUCH HIGHER AS PIGEONS MAY EVER COME INTO CONTACT WITH ,UNDER PRACTICAL CONDITIONS. THE CONCLUSION FROM THIS DATA IS THAT PIGEONS ARE VERY UNLIKELY TO BECOME INFECTED WITH AVIAN VIRUSES AND THEREFORE POSE VERY LITTLE THREAT OF INTRODUCING AVIAN FLU VIRUSES INTO AN AREA.,,,,PIGEONS WILL CERTAINLY NOT ACT AS A RESERVOIR FOR AVIAN FLU VIRUSES. "AS POMPEY MICK SAID, IT WOULD BE GREAT, IF THE POWERS TO BE , COULD FIND OUT WHY, PIGEONS, DONT ACT AS A RESERVOIR,,AND POSSIBLY HOLD THE ANSWERS TO AVIAN FLU,,,,,THAT WOULD MAKE BETTER NEWS""
