the most pleasing result for me was the" old meally" as a 2 year old , he was 6th open east of scot continental club,,[big birdages] this was his first time sent over 500 miles, after winning dorchestor 365 miles , as a yearling, my father , god rest his soul, ranted on all that winter that he would score at over 500 miles , his dream was for that meally to score at the distance, sadly my father died in the month of march that year, many years ago now,, but in june of the same year , for my fathers sake i sent this bird,, i think i almost willed this bird to score,,,,,,, to see this bird drop in this very hard race is a sight i will never forget, i felt my father willing this bird home,, ive had better results since, but none ever so pleasing, for the sake of my father,, the old meally went on to score 9 times up to 9 years old from 500- to over 600 miles,, it was always" my fathers bird",,,,,both bird and father, never to be forgotten

;D ;D ;D ,i brought up 12 eggs stacked in a loaf of bread , from charlie wooff in ollerton,, in a hired car,, after the journey home [about 7 hours] handed the car back,, with the loaf left in the car!!!!,, it took a bit of explaining ;D, but managed to retrieve the loaf,, most of these hatched, and in fact the birds won extremely well ;D

last year bewted won it,, ;D ;D i sent a congrats card , with tea bag stuck to it,, saying "have a drink on me ;D ;D ;D,,true ;D]

;D ;D ;D the trophy was posted ok, both lister and i have been enquiring about it,, if he gets two now,, welle allow you to have the other ;D ;D ;D, the cheaper one lol ;D ;D ;D ;D

im the same as you mark ;D still working in old money ;D,, but still not daft enough to see more 20 kilo bags of pigeon food instead of 25 kilo,s ,,,,,,,,at a bigger price ;D

yes, a meally cock, i remember this bird well, moneymaker also left many off springs to score at over 500 miles,, [i had one lol a g/child which scored from nantes,[608 miles] a meally hen,,,allthough he did win a national with a 9 year old hen, he was also second nat on a few occasions,,and off course many great positions through out the years,, a very dedicated pigeon fancier, one of the "greats",, there is many national winning pigeons with bobby caruthers blood lines in them, still up to to-day

same up here lister but alls well that ends well you might need a bigger tin of brasso ;D,, who knows , the other might turn up yet ;D, as i put on the " missing" form,,,,,,,rather than have compensation, i would much rather have it found, and either returned to me,,,or the recipient,, who knows lol ;D

the longest ive tried this is 19 days turning them a few times each day,, on this occasion they both hatched

form filled in , the local post office,, for lost/damaged parcels etc,, hopefully get a refund to the value of the original trophy. which has went missing in the post new trophy has now purchased , will be sign written , posted recorded delivery, hopefully" lister" will receive this a,s a p,, congratulations" lister" on winning this trophy, the brasso can come out now ;D ;D ;D,, best of luck jw

very good debate, for my pennith worth,, its def , distance birds to distance birds , but proven ones,, there are many so-called distance strains , some are usless,, but the" special" ones are hard to come by,[i think thats what makes the distance races so special], winners or prizewinners at 5-6-700 miles paired to-gether, if at all poss,, or nearest off spring,, these never any gaurentee, any will bred winners, but needs patience, and time to tell, ,, if on natural, would pair in late march even april,,for races in late june

just noticed your post lister,,, the trophie was sent along with a card about 6 weeks ago approx??? ,, very strange this?? i wondered on this ,, as i thought you would have pm,d me,,,

like all things about pigeons, its all opinions, and all differ, sometimes this makes pigeon keeping all the more interesting,, at least you have made an interesting topic about pigeons ,, it would be nice at a later time to let us know what they do breed, the main thing is their nice birds,, and should produce nice birds

hi owen,,i think you could get what your wanting here,, a griz and a cheq,, even two grizzles sometimes with the same year birds it can be difficult to pick out cocks and hens,, even more difficult in a pic. but you will know your own birds,,,, so best of luck,, ,, maybe better keeping the excitement going, then waiting to see what they breed best of luck anyway

what a beautifull bird,, my last planet bros, van loon pigeon i bought was a bird called" dilligent" [about 15 years ago roughly], this bird had many wins , to its name and cost £500,, [i couldnt /woulnt pay that to-day ;D] but i was lucky enough to have bred a pigeon out of him that won me £3,000 scoring well in both nationals and open races, both these birds were given away free
