  1. i think theres a similar posting on another thread , would agree that [as long as theres plenty room] simply put the young cocks in,the widowhood loft, and theyll sort themselves out in no time atall, and the sooner the better
  2. the pentland fed usually have another 6 anyage racing [ which is ideal to train later bred birds[ they have done this for a few years now , with complete success,,,,,,,,then theyve got the xmas race, [thousands of pounds involved] but the point is,,you dont have to send if you dont want to, and you dont have to pool if you dont want to,,,,its all optional :) it has to be said their triers anyway
  3. i used to do it the same as you robbo found excactly the same as you, but as long as there was plenty room , they usually settled no bother
  4. ive had ybs struggle home filthy, dirty , looking more like street birds, some of these have turned out to be fantastic pigeons,,,,i had one once lost as a yb ,returned two weeks b4 first ob race the following season [it was a white flighted pigeon but you couldnt tell that ,at the time ;D] this pigeon finished up a great pigeon and won quite a few firsts and other prizes] so i would never blame a yb ,,,only problem is,,, if theve been in a loft,, they will drop back at that loft, if theve been living" wild", differance story :)
  5. this seems to be turning out a very difficult race indeed with very few birds back , their still waiting now,,1.30 here should be roughly 8,30 there now , linda looks to have the best returns but lets also think about the others some with very poor returns indeed so lets hope theres a few drop for all b4 nightfall in oregan

  10. ive had stock birds in for a few years partly because of the rules and regulations where i stay, and recently said ,to pot with it im letting them out as i hated keeping them in, i now see a differnce in thes birds , ie condition contentment etc, but can really understand your problem , its really a lot of work cut out for you ,,and difficult to put priority to the birds that are not racing , but really think it would pay dividends if you could manage them out , if not every day, as many times that are possible , i see your also racing natural birds , would it not be possible to exercise your naturals on their own and after theve had their fly let the stockbirds out with these after a while you may even get another fly from the birds as the stock birds get fitter, but i do realize how hard it is to fit all this in ,,,but theres no doubt about it the stockbirds will keep better, breed better ybs , if you can get them out to let them for a little fly pick some natural minerals etc, but very hard work so wish you well :)

  13. yes ,,seen mr perigrine today,, birds all turning there heads to the side then they all took off, these birds went as high as ive seen in a while in the lovely blue sky, but luckily for me he had his mind on something else further on and passed over, but the birds took a while to land and were very jumpy, so i got them in at that point.

  15. as far as pigeons smelling , i think they do as you can smell an unhealthy bird, loft etc and the same goes for a healthy pigeon, loft etc, but as far as a pigeons sense of smell [allthough differance to ours] actually plays a role in their homing instinct,, any thoughts?/
