  12. we had that rating thing before but i dont think its a good idea
  13. id be inclined to put them in a basket or wire crate on top ofthe loft every day give them a handfull of grub in it let them see all around then let them out hungry after your own birds have had their fly, late evening but wouldnt pull a flight out as this usualy grows in slightly shorter , or i would go along with ace,
  14. brilliant p.h great news ittl be back to normal in a few days [maybe not as clean ;D] even that surprises you they clean up their selves in no time, you can allways name it" sooty" ;D ;D ;D
  15. well done sid , good luck to you,its hard enough to top the fed in any race
  16. good luck to all , forecast looks reasonable, hope its a good race.
  17. ive had birds in small 8, 6 loft and 8,6 for 6 years as im not allowed to let them out where i stay, about a month ago, couldnt stand it any longer and let the lot out, lost a few good stock birds but also got the rest settled 3 days ago one attacked by sparrow hawk , luckily i was there and got the bird, but wish i had my camera ready but the hawk got such a fright i doubt if itll be back,,,,doesnt take them long to cotten on [and off course the birds were not used to this, im positive they can pick out the vulnarable ones]
  18. im sure there was a moose loose aboot this hoose ;D ;D ;D ;D

  21. ;D ;D ;D i agree with you tt, even the duromitex is not as strong as it used to be , when you did the loft with this, it stunk like rotten eggs for about a week , now its like fresh eggs ;D ;D ;D

  23. remember its not the pigeons that attract mice,,its the grain, youll be surprised where youll get mice , nearly every one will get a mouse or two , without seeing them , so its worth a galley pot of mouse poison some where the birds can definately not get near and im not taking the mickey,,,,,,mousey ;D ;D ;D
  24. no need to get paranoid p,h, but really if you had seen birds with serious paratyphoid, salmonelosis youd actualy want to kill them , its one of the most horrible things to see, birds with their neck so contorted they cant eat [very like paramyxo]lying flat on their back with their legs in the air unable to get up, no co-ordination whatsoever, even in milder cases they cant pick up the grub , missing the peas or beans by about half an inch wings drooping becoming solid [tight]many other symtoms, youve no need to worry at yours , you would soon notice this, the other problem it can make them infertile and can become carriers for life, i would go as far as to say its the worst thing a pigeon can get , and for the future of the other inmates and its one of the few deseases that can spread in the egg, the worst cause of this is usualy rats and mice, but a good vet especialy agricultural vets can tell you within a 3 days with a droppings test [the pigeon droppings i mean ;D]
  25. i think if you look at the statistics of national races nowadays were seeing more widowhoods doing the busness , but theres a lot more sent too nowadays, and a lot more unable to do it, as well. it takes a special bird , no matter what system to win these big races, but notice the longer and harder the race is ,youll see plenty hens popping up then[,natural] but for races up to 3, 400 mile no doubts the widowhoods have the speed then 5 to over 600miles it takes a special pigeon be it widowhood or natural, only my opinion [and their far and few between, thats why their champions]
