  1. when i was a wee bit fitter [i was t v aerial tech.] and got a bird out an old fanciers chimney, we could just see the bird on a small ledgeabout 12 ft down, b4 the chimney turned and bent, with a torch, we tied a cloth on to a brick on a rope, dropped it down to blank off the further drop, the bird then went on the clothed brick and we managed to get it out ,it had been there for 3 days, the fancier in question had opened up the blanked off fire place in the house, after all the mess and soot , found about a dozen rings ,dating back to 1951,,,we then fitted a cowel [this was a two story house, im sure theres two members of the forum remember this :) i really do hope you get thebird out p,h. ive even seen them struggle out themseves after a few days

  14. just to add to that having mice in or around the loft can cause serious problems , so i would make real efforts to rid them
  15. youll find a fair bit of info on the" health topic" that may help, you may have to go through the pages, but its worth a look
  16. perfect returns linda, and you knew that was a sticky race, so good going ;D ;D ;D meally bar had the best returns,,,,,,an extra one ;D ;D ;D
  17. i would agree with most posts but really would ask what distance your asking about as theres a lot would call a 3, 4 hundred mile race distantreally the distance races i would say anyway are 5 ,,,600 mile races, a bird is really not fully mature till its about 2 years old , ithink ben has put it down well , in such a small paragraph and explained a lot , rose has a very good point as some families are, differant, some thrive on hard work others dont basicly a good 2 year old that has not been hammered, then if its in it itll do it, and i would just take up bens point again training pigeons in march april in cold east winds will knock the stuffing out of them and probably they wouldnt last the season anyway, but with pigeons theres allways exception to the rule, but as for myself would rather go for the "rule",,,,,,,,good posts
  18. well done to all especialy jaffray bros who had a fantastic race 1st bird doing over 60m,p,h, some speed when you see a car even doing that

  20. well done brilliant result,
  21. welcome back mark hope all is ok
  22. ,,,wow some result that, especially with only 10 away congrats to you whiteflight :)
  23. wonder what the score would be if you bred budgies or canaries as their kept in, so what about the pigeons that are kept ,in but i did see it was optional, but could that just be an excuse in case it was made a "must " at some time ,it seems a lot of money
  24. bet it would be snowy as well as being educational ill bet the kids would love to hear about the birds and the stories attached to them , would be nice to do someting like that and show them pigeons, let them handle and release them , maybe get some decent budding young fanciers,,,,,,worth thinking about :)
  25. great stories these i find it quite fascinating,,,,just a wee article headed "winged heroes" for as long as men have waged war, pigeons have been their messegers in battle. during world war 2 more pigeons were used for more purposes than in any previous conflict. thousands of racing pigeon owners joined the national pigeon service knowing that their birds would be deployed as messengers by the allied forces, or maybe dropped by parachute, to be used by the frebch resistance. a pigeons ability and stamina may vary but they all possess a determination to "get there"and the 32 birdsthat received the pdsa dicken medal displayed this winning quality.their contribution represents the efforts of countless other pigeons whos flights saved the lives of many people and assured the success of vital military operations, the first pigeon to receive the p.d.s.a. dicken medal was off course the now world wide famous winkie and off course many of these pigeons are all mentioned in all the posts in this topic, great true stories to every one of them, j.w.
