  1. but the loss to harkers and nobivac etc. would be great,,, their big business and have a lot of" pull" and really any loss at all in the business world is regarded as a failure.
  2. cant say its anything ive encountered b4 either ,, would be very interested to see how you got on with it david
  3. i would do this nowadays, as opposed to years ago ,, as wily says yb,s are prone to picking at anything [inc droppings] their immunity system has not yet developed properly , so as they grow , they need to grow in good health to make strong obs , then their immunity system should have a better grip [to the bird with the stronger inbred constitution]

  6. the old gurnays were a great old breed im quite sure there will be fanciers still racing them , i think the prob now is that most of these breeds are" watered down now" but you allways get the odd fancier keeping the lines going ,, hope you have luck ,,,,,,,,,but dont send amtrack to australia ;D ;D ;D ;D [no offence meant pioneer pity you could get some one to bring eggs over though ]
  7. good luck to all, , lets hope we can get some decent weather now for the yb season

  9. yes i would agree with that ,,maybe a simple knock ,, but better making sure as paratyphoid ,salmonella can cause unknown probs for years to come, vet will take blood test and droppings test ,, hope it gets the all clear [often similar symptoms to paramyxo]
  10. i would now treat yb,s for cocci,,,worms,, and canker [advice from a good avian vet ] but as old birds would be more inclined to have their droppings tested periodically [they should have more natural immunity ] on the antibiotics scene , would tend to seek good avian vetenary advice

  13. i would say theres a good chance they will be fertile,, ive had them do this in 4 days and the eggs were fertile ,,maybe let us know ,even out of curiosity
  14. please read carefully before you comment ,,,read the last word ,,,,,,,,,",now"
  15. well done dave,, lets be honest amtrack are a rip off anyway ,so helping to get birds back without paying £30 pound per bird to them can only be good , and very helpfull for the fancier ,,,were not all loaded like me ;D ;D ;D [i wish ;D]
  16. i think it maybe taken in to account that the bath can induce the moult ,,but the weather this year has certainly got things mixed up a bit , you only need to look in the garden ,certain flowers that should have been blooming have in fact been late ,so the weather has just not been ideal or rather abnormal to the usual seasons ,, i think we may see more of this in the future :-/
  17. i understand your post better now david , i was under the impression this doze was for 5 days albeit the reason i thought it was to high a doze ,,,better explained on your second post
  18. yes i think fanciers tend to forget that airspace is an important factor ,, i note in roses last post that she "only breeds a small team" is part of the answer ,as we tend to forget that at the one time ,when a pair have two big ybs in the nest ,theres double the amount of birds in that loft, so by having less birds and more airspace ,im sure the birds would be far more contented= less stress=less desease ,,and not only that ,you only tend to keep the best this way
  19. i know this is a rule that the birds must be vaccinated ,,,,but i cant help thinking theres money to be made out of this by the big firms ,if their injected as ybs, my feelings are that half a doze there after would suffice,,,maybe some thoughts on this
  20. no, def not ,,,,, i have in the past dipped them in a week solution o f duramitex ,but even this is very strong for the birds , but this is mainly for lice and mite
  21. be it fungal infection or deplumimg mite ,, i am just wondering why it mostly effects the chest of the bird ??? im being quite serious here, i know this can happen with the drinkers or hoppers, being sharp , but sometimes i think this can be used as an excuse sometimes ,to mask the real problem ,maybe someone can advise
  22. i think you would be able to get latebreds from very successful fanciers very cheaply, i think from their on , its patients and management [and a long hard learning process, with more downs than ups ,,unfortunately,, but the ones that stick at it through thick and thin,,,,,,get there in the end
  23. eggs will last for a while if not started to incubate,,,,, but must be turned regular if you have a good search on the forum ,youll find a good thread about this p.s def not in freezer
  24. this is dead right ,,,if your standing on the top of the carter bar youll see just how low kelso it is . the race point from towlaw was very high [you still got snow there in july ;D ;D ;D] mind you this year, you could expect any weather anywhere , most changable weather ive seen in a while
  25. i think youll find hes on more than you think ;D now ;D
