just one mention on a health risk for sparrowhawks , they are very successable to canker ?????? through eating meat from pigeons with this desease . very interesting one of the "yellow flashers" think that was on the other post ;D ;D,,,,but could well be something in this ,,who knows untill its tried
  4. the reason i wouldnt feed any[ complete] pellets are simply that as a grain eating bird, it has a gizzard where it stores the grit which masticates the grain , if you were to feed a complete diet of pellets,, the gizzard would become redundant [im not against pellets at the right time and for the right reasons] but just one other way of ruining the modern days pigeons constitution.

    Hawks

i agree with the british owl trust and most of the top ornithologists who also agree with this ,,,,,but the rspb dont??? i wonder why ??my opinion is,, because they have paid millions of pounds in releasing perigrines [wages ,,wardens, breeding etc etc ] that they think their money and THEIR birds will be wasted away,,,which it would be ,,,,,,,,,,,the rspb hate these birds [the royal society for the protection of BIRDS] ironic isnt it .
  10. jimmy white

    Hawks

as i say,, they can escape very easy ;)
  11. jimmy white

    Hawks

the rspb state in the last post that "little is known what the eagle owl eats in this country]],,,,absolute nonsense, they know exactly what they eat,, mostly rabbit ,,,but will kill any other predator bird at dusk when they are roosting , they will not tolerate them anywhere near their territory
  12. jimmy white

    Hawks

if you read the thread on hawks on" sticky" pages 7,,,,8,,,9,,10,,,11...12 you'll see the date of the programme ,, maybe some help to you also some valuable info on the whole posting [re the eagle owl prog.]
  13. jimmy white

    Hawks

his is perfectly true,,, but some of these birds do escape ,,,,,accidentally
  14. jimmy white

    Hawks

this is true what bruno said ,,[ a pity you couldn't get a video of that programme ] maybe some one on the forum taped it ,or maybe make enquiries to acquire this,, i think you would find it most interesting ,,, its positively sure the rspb dont want these birds in the uk. [my thoughts are , that's why they disappeared mysteriously just after the programme ] but the law states you can shoot an escapee??? but if their bred here , even from escapees ,, the rspb should look after them the same as peregrines ?????,,,,,their protected [strange law?] but if you buy a pair and they escape/?its not your fault :-/ :-/ and if they manage to breed ,, the youngsters should be british birds , born in britain and SHOULD? come under the same protection as the peregrines ,,,but would they?? in other words the rspb are a law unto themselves ,, which is wrong
  15. jimmy white

    Hawks

i would also like this idea ,, we had this debated on the" sticky" hawk thread some time ago,,,, this is where the rspb disagree, they say its not native to britain [[i should imagine for their own reasons] but there are many top ornithologists believe they are , if we had a pair of these eagle owls breeding all over the country [the same nesting habitat of the peregrines ,,,,there would be less peregrines ,, there are a few nesting in Britain [even if they are " escapees?"] the birds that are bred here are brittish wild birds , there fore SHOULD be protected by the rspb ? but the last ones we heard about breeding 3 youngsters all dissapeared ???mysteriously?
  16. to save me sending an e mail mr peters,, i thank you for your answer, but unfortunately these things have been tried and tested , and in the main,, just do not work ,, have you any other solution ,yours ,,james white

if you have a search on the past pages on p,b there is pics of them somewhere, sorry cannot be more precise,, they are lovely looking birds
  21. def no song thrushes here now,, not many house sparrows,[used to be hundreds] a few blackbirds , a few finches [i feed ] most common birds around my area are now [apart from hawks] crows , magpies ,wood pigeons and some lovely collared doves [which i seen one being killed last wek with sparrow hawk , not really many small songbirds
  22. can anyone on line post an e,mail on pb ,, this post ???? i could send it to them if someone could
  23. wait till you see the great helpfull e mail i got back from rspb,, the e mail also prooves they read pigeon basics???
  24. i believe this to be true ,,there are now hybrids,,wings is spot on about young peregrine they are like this ,as he says ,, but more likely to take a bird in flight than from the loft top,, ,,its not that long ago ,i was telling rose about a hawk flying over my loft ,,one which i couldn't identify ,,looked a larger than sparrow hawk bird , but smaller than buzzard ,, even maybe slightly larger than peregrine ,, this bird had a very light colour ,, although it didn't go for the birds it fairly gave them a fright ,,,,,it was flying in a straight direction , right out of sight
