    ;D ;D ;D well that leaves one other poster ;D ;D ;D
  5. house spray i use myself at times ,,, but this kills all creepy crawlies,,,, but it also kills the spiders, which are in fact good in your loft ,,,spiders will eat flies , moths red mite etc etc so a few spiders webs in the corners will do no harm ;D ;D ;D thats if your not scared of spiders ;D ;D ;D
  6. ;D more sense in that qoute than what you think, the odd lice youll find on any pigeon [even if you think its lice free ] i wouldnt advocate birds being" lousy"but beleive the odd lice [as roland says] is natural to the birds , makes them use their preen gland oil[keeps that important gland healthy] and preen themselves , puts a beautifull shine on them , this oil off the preen gland actualy makes the bird get rid of the odd lice ,,by preening [think we must be the only two to agree on that roland ;D ;D ;D]
  7. no chickadee, the pigeon has a special" third eyelid" the" nicky membrane " this acts as a dust keeperooterer ;D and acts like a windscreen wiper against flying in rain etc, thats why any respiratory prob effects this membrane and puts the bird at a strict disadvantage , but if the waters not right for the bird in the bath, it wont go in ,, thats why they taste it first
  8. raced 9 w hood cocks, won a lot ,, then my average team was 18,, as 9 is difficult if you have a bad race or accidentsand maybe not quite enough to compete in all races inc nat etc ,,,, but on occasions raced 60 w,hood cocks ,,never done any better , but the workload was just not worth it,, it became a chore rather than a delight, the work load was unbeleivable , with 60 hens ,stock birds and y,b,s ,, all birds didnt get proper justice ,, was far happier with 18 cocks [raced a few hens sometimes] and did just as well
  9. i suppose it could be possible :-/ that theve taken the phone no ring off ,and meant to phone you, and like many keep putting things off?? but then the least he could do was be honest , phone you, even now and explain

maybe both of you that sold birds could give a small donation to pigeon basics ,,, you both got a free advert ;D,, anyone can sell pigeons on pb as long as its above board,,,,,maybe we should be thanking pb instead of trying to squabble
  11. no, i find it just makes them thirsty ;D ;D ;D,,,[only kidding ] ,no but seriously Ive never found salt good for this purpose , i dont think the odd lice is too much bother ,, its red mite that's the killer, , there are many that say garlic is effective for lice , but spraying your loft with duramitex does the trick
  12. yes by all means, have your birds flying as much as poss, but try and get in to the habit of excercising them at the same time each day,, or taken away some miles for a short fly,, to keep the birds fit , they will need rest after the race though , by rest , i mean , just let them relax a bit with a bath etc and a couple of days" of easy going" good luck to you batusai
  13. hope that perigrine never had canker

  17. no 13 tail wind ;D
  18. answered the reason ,",fast" roland,,,, :) but didnt mention selective breeding was breeding,,, stronger constitutional birds ,,its not ,, not the way its done nowadays ,, for a 5 to 600 miler on a hard day needs a constitution like a horse ,, and theres not many like that now,, but horses for courses missed out 5 on purpose ;D ;D ;D [well ill say that anyway ;D ;D ] true answer is ,,cant count ;D ;D ;D

    BARLEY

theres a lot in what roland said ,, but i wouldnt give the barley until the finish of the moult . untill the last flight is completely grown , i find it a great weight watcher especialy after the moult when , birds maybe not getting out, shorter days ,,the birds will be sitting on their perches [going to say a,, s ;D] from darkness 3 30 pm until lightness at approx 9 am ,, to fill their crops with a heavy mix at this time would simply make them too fat , only excercise would be to fly to floor to feed then up to perch to roost , this would produce unhealthy birds , so to me, barley has its uses
  20. every day , even for a short while [enough time to clean loft] unless really bad
  21. darkness yb,s to win yb races
  22. a bargain ,, ideal xmas presy for speck ;D ;D ;D [ill cope it for that ;D ;D ;D] but a real bargain really
  23. i think you can manage it with top class winning pigeons , that have won for you regular ,, but this takes time ,,,,but very easy to look after and healthier for birds,
  24. a good bath Friday morning , will keep w hood cocks calmer through the day [forget about oldfashioned way,, losing bloom ,,,,better winning race ;D]
  25. a number of years ago,, raced 9 w hood cocks in an 8 by 6 loft won all trophies in club [big club then]5 to 600 birds , and supreme ave in fed,,5 to 6000 birds r,u to gold cup ,, so it can be done
