  1. agree two bags of the best grub at this moulting time of the year
  2. so sorry to hear this news , my prayers are with dale and family ,and still pray for a recovery
  3. my thinking on this post is the same as the" tammy 2" thinking. as we had b4 ,,,some folks get a strange kick out of posting under another name , this could be the same person that joined as" tammy 2" thank goodness weve only got a tammy -1 ;D ;D ;D,, and surely not another coxy > > >,, but im quite sure this is not" coxy" [i think he will be watched very closely AND maybe for his own good > for what its worth >
  4. dont think you can really blame the birds dogeon,, my fav saying to new starters is , the three c,s condition, contenment, and control , to win races up to 200 [or any distance] miles you must have these three qualities to begin with,,,,then its down to motivation ,, my advice would be to go to your local best sprint flier, and listen look and learn ,,all the very best to you and hope to see results next year on the forum :)

    white birds

good pigeons come in all shapes sizes and colours , theres been a few good whites and grizzles done extremely well,, i myself dont beleive their" hawk bait" as when the hawk wants his dinner hell have his dinner , maybe one thing worth remembering is that white repels the heat [weve never had that prob in the uk ;D]
  6. the older fanciers [recing natural] used to say pair up on valentines day [middle of feb] that would be the time that the yb,s would be reared b4 the first race , but remembering the birds will cast their first flight after sitting 10 or so days on second round , these birds would be too far up in the moult for the distance races i,e july, so for this reason i would pair these later i,e late march or even april ,where they could be sent to the national races sitting approx 10 days , but for inland races would race birds paired at this time [14 feb ] then sent on their fav nesting condition ,,, but above all the birds should be fit and want to fly ,carry the right weight etc , pigeons tend to get in to a habit,, its up to the manager to make sure they are good habits , i,e flying round the loft for example ,if they wont do it ,,make them , theyll soon get into the habit [early morning is the best for this ] as my old freind david parkinson used to say,,,races are won at home yb,s will thrive on plenty tossing, but ob,s get crafty to this and if tossed to early in the seson will weaken b4 the last races,, but as they say ,,theres many ways to skin a cat
  7. notice the su pigeon was the fourth bird in the first drop ;D ;D ;D getting nearer ;D ;D
  8. feed the best mix at the right time for the right races [i,e sprint or distance ] inthe off season, good barley fed a little b4 their feed will keep the weight off them [personally im not keen on wheat ]
  9. usually for all
  10. worth trying to get a small loft and aviary [poles for perches] and hens boxed wed to friday,, in someone elses garden ,well away from cocks maybe an interested oap ,or someone able to do this , if this was poss. it would lessen your workload and be a boon for the cocks [they just need to let them out friday ] with the cocks waiting
  11. i close all boxes , the side the cocks have , i close , but leaving enough room for a bird to just perch ,, yb,s in asap, theyll soon find a" perch" which will be their box the following season
  12. dont think its the employees that are to blame , after all they are just employees ,, but the secy,s the bosses [which the shu secy has been very helpfull in doing her best] but still cant see why all organizations cant work on this together ,[including gamekeepers],,personally i will not rest until something is done, about this problem ,,and beleive me i mean that >
  13. this just has to be rectified ,, fanciers just cant go on like that much more,, sorry this has happened jamesb ,,,,its just far to common nowadays ,,send pic into s h u and e mail rspb ,,, and the problem is made worse as if the hawk has done this once,, itll try again :-/
  14. couldnt agree more but maybe would just add that flying natural ,go to the best natural flier in your area [youll learn more about pigeons alltogether, flying natural, and still beat the w,hood boys if you get the knack patience is the game with pigeons , but if you fancied a bash at the w,hood, would agree with above post, but would give it a year first
  15. i agree with you bart ,, maybe take a little working out , but could be done,, just on a point of transporters ,, a few years ago 3 transporters all a lot less than half full sitting at ripon ,, all pigeons flying into the same area [maybe thats what they call bussiness sense ;D i call it nonsense ;D]
  16. there have been progs. in the past about fanciers and their pigeons,, as you say that would be great ,, i think a prog. letting the public know of the birds of war and dicken medal winners ,,and their stories [about the thousands of soldiers they saved ] and about the queen keeping pigeons , famous people keeping pigeons [like speck ;D ;D] etc all would be a good beginning to have the public educated about these racing pigeons and the miles they fly ,to a small loft in the back garden ,,then try for what you say , theres never anything to lose by trying
  17. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT WILEY,,,a differant mike tyson alltogether , and its pretty obvious he loves his pigeons [mob flier though ;D] mind you i wouldnt fancy going against his vote, at a meeting ;D ;D ;D,,,,but truly a differant mike tyson alltogether,, just goes to show
  18. i have a lot of cats around me, i find the ultrasonic devises do help , but im sure the crafty ones get used to these one here especialy, but they do help , another good tip is if your garden is fenced off [i have a 6ft interwoven fence round part of mine] i put ,the straps the carpet layers use [the strips of ply with the tacks sticking through] ive tacked these ,to the top of the fence , ittl not do the cat any harm , but it will spring off the fence quicker than it sprung on it [and wont do it a second time] also one of these high pressure hoses aimed at them , if your on target their wary a second time,,,,but really between hawks and cats , i think your better there while the birds are out
  19. just noticed these also :) reply 81 is for the eyesign men ;D ;D ;D
  20. a bit late,,,,but thanks all ,,but didnt even know this was on
  21. congratulations, to karl and fiona,, [some length to go just to get a loft manager ,,,,,or two ;D ;D ;D ;D] hope mother and baby are fine
  22. if theve raced this year, on my opinion need left now to moult , maybe a few weeks ago you could have had them short distances north [but hawks are bad at this time] the yearlings will go , no problem north providing their not trained too early in the year in the cold east winds , patience till may , and theyll fly better
  23. wonder if the members have [wont do that again next year] and a [ ill def do that again next year]
  24. i wouldnt be interested in" breeds" as such,,,,just so long as they were bred from winners through and through ,,for the distances you choose ,, then create your own "breed"
