This is very true phil

One other though, Louella and other studs dispatch birds to Scotland, as they do to all parts of the country on a regular basis. At present they will give no more mind to sending birds to Stirling one day, and Glasgow the next. Now with there co-operation, there can be no good reason why a consignment of birds for Scotland, could not be dispatched on a weekly of fortnightly basis.Or indeed for all regions. Now it could be argued that this would at least reduce the cost on birds purchased from the big studs, which contribute to a large part of pigeon transportation within the uk. A little thought this could become a reality Happy days Rab Smith

Yes DoveScot, This is interesting, and something that really should be addressed, though i have been away from the birds for a number of years it would seem Amtrak are no better today than they were 10 years ago. Think it would be true to say that such a new service would be supported by most. However for me the money making part "short deliveries" is mostly done by the fancier. Wish i had a fiver for every time ip picked up birds bought or reported in a 20 mile radius. I think a network of holding lofts would help.Leaving the central belt of Scotland to take one pigeon to Aberdeen say would be a big part of the down side. However if this bird was held for a week or so, you may have other birds to take north as well, thus making at least viable Doing something regionally is worth looking at and any feasibility study should be backed and monitored at both fed and Union level. If we cant get the service outside the sport we should long since tried to solve it ourselves, Cheers Rab Smith Yeah

This has alway been a touchy subject. I have always thought these appointments should come from within. Gorden brown being leader while not belonging to the labour party. Now some could rightfully argue this would be a great thing. However no one knows our troubles, and how to take us forward, than our own. Good hunting happy days

Casleview you are spot on mate the health of your pigeons will also be so much better. You need a lot of room, for a lot of pigeons and this is where most fall down. They then reach for the medicine box and never really get back. Indeed I would argue that most fanciers do well initially this is because they have not built up a big team.Fast forward a few years and they wonder where they went wrong. Quality and not quantity should be the goal.

Asking the sellers opinion would be something that springs to mind. Other than this Delboy is not far of the mark when he talks of temperament and balance are also key to making a choice.not sure however about length of tail or wings however they should be in proportion to the birds body. More important than all this, make sure your in the right loft to get these stock pigeons that will be your foundation for years to come.Think hard and think long, and check results over two or three years at least. Interesting thread Cheers Rab Smith

What is your most Memorable achievement in Pigeons
Whats it called Cumbernauld replied to a topic in Racing Pigeons
Late 90's 1st Club 1st Fed 9th open with Scottish Central Combine Sartilly. Birds in the basket almost a week my two year old hen was liberated at 06-30 and was timed in at 21-51 that night. She was sent just as her eggs which were about to hatch, indeed my mate John Gilmour, still says to this day the energy from the milk she had produced played a part in this great feat. This beats any other memory, other than remembering i always worked for the good of the sport. -
Some nice story's here keep it up, pigeons are not all about being the best they also help bring us together not just families, but between fanciers. Cheers Power to the Pigeon Rab Smith

I to will be returning to the sport this year,so this is something i will have to give some thought to as well. However I will be testing to the full whatever i get. Still unsure if I will start with young birds or get the right stock and bread my own any thoughts would be welcomed

surely what you fly (Breed)would play a part then you can look at how many,or do you think it matters not to how many you will be left with.

My My guys you all touchy today. Jstoon gives a break mate only saying there are many ways to look at this and it best to think before you say.ofcourse we all do what we have to in order we protect our birds but in this year of 2008 w3e would do best to think before we share with other just how we deal with this issue. One of these people who can pick up a sh** by the clean end, will be on your case. All is open to discussion and all viewpoints should be taken. Happy days -

Yes it is indeed a good idea to think before you type.We all want to protect our pigeons, and we all have different views and practices to do just that. These are best kept to p m if they are to be discussed. -

Natural remedies
Whats it called Cumbernauld replied to DOVEScot's topic in Natural Remedies & Supplements
Nice one DOVEScot there is little doubt, we all reach for the medicine far two quickly. -
This has indeed been interesting not just for the original question but about the way people respond and interact with each other. Hepsty you are right when you say it can be difficult to express feelings of empathy, when communicating in the way.So if i came across as a know, sorry. However there is little point in taking part, if we do not try to exchange knowledge and experiences. Its how we do this without offending, that is the real quest. Most should agree we all keep to many, indeed it is at the heart of most problems we encounter with our birds. There are times when we can buck this trend,by calling a spare an extra.and adding to it is for me one of these times. Good luck with you quest for you hen wish you all the best,I am sure there will be a kind fancier, who will see you ok mate.
