Alf i was just thinking thats what makes the one loft raced an exciting prospect, they are all kept in the same environment. This fact may just through up some funny results,a fact that should encourge the small fancier to compete Cheers Rab -

the man or the pigeon?
Whats it called Cumbernauld replied to a topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Alf just been saying this about the environment we keep the birds in.Gifted birds come into your loft and have a change of environment and if this is positive then you can get these birds to do wonders. On the other hand if it is negative, then you can get world betters and do nothing. Indeed this is something that most of us may have experianced Yeah Rab -

60 % Fancier 35% Pigeons, and importantly 5% environment. -
Yes Correct. The transportation of the birds say 100 miles south in each leg can also be done in relay. Would say each loft taking part could send three birds, to represent his team on that leg.As soon as arrives liberate the next three for the next leg. If we run out of light or whether closes in, the race would be suspended,And restarted at the appropriate time.Combined Velocity being used in order to give placings. Much to be discussed but this really may appeal to a lot of fanciers. Only by talking and discussing will we get an idea of what they want. I am first to admit would take a lot of organizing however the benefit would appear to be great. I beleive with all the stiff within our sport it would go a long way to bringing us together while at the same time breaking new ground. Cheers Rab

Yes suppose we could all race from say 300 miles on a certain day, however the champion would be dictated by Velocity, which in turn would be at the mercy of wind direction. To many skeptics would shoot down such a competition. However would like to link an idea which is connected to another thread, to commemorate those lost during the fist word war at YPRES. Many moons ago when writing in the B H W ,I covered the idea of a relay race, which would be used in order to commemorate big historical events. I understand some logistical problems however the concept i believe is a good one. From YPRES to the far north of Scotland. Now all the governing bodies will come up with reason why this or that can not take place. If its what the fancier wants we can make it happen. guessing 600/700 miles with say 5/6 lofts in each team with the sole purpose off getting, an undisclosed number to the last loft who would phone in that number and be given a place there and then.Indeed thought would have to go in to this however it is the concept i put forward as an idea to get us in the uk working together while doing it for a good cause. In addition to this it would generate much needed publicity if nothing else. It would sure put the proverbale cat amonst them in Scotland Members of diffrent National clubs flying in the same team Shookaroony Can i have your thought on this please

Well said Ronnie Rab Smith

You know this has been both funny and informative. As some one who is returning to the sport, thoughts of spending a lot of money in trying to acquire quality, had been on my mind. However most if not all the good pigeons i had were gifted. Guess I'll go down both roads A lot of thinking to do both on loft environment and fittings as well as where to get pigeons. Happy days Rab Smith

why do children not seem interested in our sport ?
Whats it called Cumbernauld replied to a topic in Racing Pigeons
We do so much for charity, but it should begin at home. A couple of guys going round schools, will do more for the future of our sport in a week, than all the money given to good causes in a year. These things can and should be done, all we need is the right leadership which will take us in the right direction Think about it Cheers Rab -

Invalid is he on medication now?Depending on what it is, it my curb his appetite,so don't worry to much. You may have noticed on here mate, there are some DOOM and GLOOM merchants. Please ignore and enjoy ,whatever you decide to do going forward. These people are in all walks of life, don't let them put you off. Indeed those of us such as Chrisss, and pjc, to name but two, want our sport to continue and flourish. We would do well to learn from this little story, that is repeated time after time right throughout the country almost on a daily basis. Just that we don't know about it. Happy days Rab Smith -
