  1. trained lightly as yearlings, raced to 250 miles as 2year olds and then as far as you want , 3 years onwards. Patience is the key here but most of us ( me included ) havent got enough patience.
  2. dont know, must be videos on it. I m sure someone on this site will help.
  3. no mate, just darkness.I have studied light system and heard about pulling of flights.I dont like this
  4. early breeding without darkness or light system is my choice. If early enough bred they will go through moult and hold primaries for longer races. But if I had to choose then it would be the darkness system
  5. pity it wasnt open to Midland fed fanciers
  6. They should be lightened for 20 hours of the day.Set the lights to go off 4 hours before sunrise, because I think the system works better that way.The birds should be through the moult before training starts.
  7. You accelerate the moult with the increase of light in the day, with an emphasis in the birds completing the wing moult.Hence the pulling out of primaries. The ybs compete in races with full wings and good feathering.
  8. Try the darkness system mate, with the light system you have to pull flights out your birds to hurry the moult on .I would imagine you dont want to do that.
  9. In my opinion the hen isnt that keen on her box , if she laid on the floor.Put the egg she laid in a bowl with shavings or nest felt ( no straw or nesting material ), and leave it exactly where she laid. After she lays her second egg ( which should be with the first egg )then if you wait until its dark you can move her and the bowl a few inches. You can do this every night until you have the bowl where you want it.Alternatively you can cover her head with your hand and move the bowl a few inches every day. I have moved pairs on eggs the whole length of the loft into using this method.

    Training.

Your Spot on Vic, I never train until leaves on trees.Training in north east winds takes the edge off the birds.Even the cows in the fields turn their *expletive removed* towards an easterly wind.

Its piggin terrible we have to think this way but I completely understand your feelings Andy
  12. Cheers Bart, My point is , how the f... are we meant to enjoy our sport with this constant hawk threat. There is no chance of achieving super form with this threat of death hanging over each loft.WORRYING TIMES.

    you are ill advised mate
  14. I agree with you 100% Gareth but we have been saying this for years and years.Action has to be taken NOW, not next year or the year after.Pigeon Racing isnt a sport anymore, it has become a worry. You worry about Percy when you are training, you worry when you are racing and now you worry letting the poor *expletive removed* out.

  16. I was like a maniac shouting in my garden this afternoon as I witnessed a peregrine swoop and take one of my best racers, plucking it in mid air , only maybe 50 feet above me.The crows were attacking it as it fluttered away with one of my prize birds. I stay in a scheme and I have never witnessed this before in a built up area, although I know they are hunting more, now, in the inner cities .Ten minutes before this attack, my ybs were bombarded with a sparrowhawk and I have 5 missing.Tell me this, when the hell are we going to get peace from these b......s

A massive mistake by the SNFC to let the best scribe in Scotland go.I hope the website continues but I feel if it does , then it will most definately have lost its professional touch.
  19. l lost a cracking cock to the hawk yesterday. He scored in Eastbourne SNFC National last year. Pig sick
  20. 501 times jock
  21. IB, Sandy Watson was 9th Open Liege, the reason I know this is because, the then President of the SNFC Jim O,Hara was 7th.I was fortunate enough to be 1st west section 5th Open that day. Cheers
  22. In 2001 the SNFC flew their Gold Cup race from Liege in Belgium. They were liberated in a w.s.w wind and 1st Open went to Les Mckay of Carnoustie, flying 529mls approx.I spoke to Les and he confirmed to me that his bird came off the North Sea.On a straight line from coast to coast Les s bird flew approx 419 miles of water, now that is with no wind. The wind was wsw, actually blowing the birds even further into the North Sea.So, in fact his gallant pigeon may have even flown more miles without hitting the mainland. This particular race, although very hard, turned out to be a very fair one as 7 region winners were in the top 10 Open.
  23. So Alex, did the committee decide who the guest should be??????
