  1. remember also parathyroid can be in birds with no visual signs what so ever ive seen birds win shows with this disease then a week or so later there showing signs of it ure whole loft cold break out with it many birds could die show no signs and u could do a cull and leave the ones that don't show any signs of the virus but the carrier could be one these birds so it will only rear it ugly head again also i think its one of the main reasons for the high amount of young bird losses i have vaccinated the last 3 year with 90% of youngsters flying the full youngbird program the last few year i think i lost 5 youngbirds in the last 3 year that includes train too and another problem is most pll vaccinate too late at 6 weeks old the right time is at weening stage ie 21 23 days some pll actually do them in the nest im not so sure about that ive read if u vaccinate early it also a help if u get the circovirus ive read they don't get it half as hard as birds that are not vaccinated against parathyroid
  2. i wouldn't touch them birds with a 50ft pole but if u really want them id id put them in a averiy do them for canker cocci all types of worms put on a course of parastop wait 5 days then vaccinate for parathyroid really u are a taking a massive chance with these birds there's so many different kinds of diseases and virus doing the rounds id leave them where they are
  3. ive said this before but i think it would be a great idea if we had maybe 2 different threads that where on 1 there was info given out on how to feed and care for lost birds when a member of the public comes on we can direct him or her too the thread also another thread where someone is interested setting up a new loft and new birds and just wants the basics on how to take care of them because if they were to look through some of threads and see us talking about meds disease like para cocci worms and all the rest that goes with it can get confusing wouldn't it be an idea if lets say 4 members put there heads together put up the info a few pics inside of lofts just an easy step by step guide really on the general upkeep of pigeons only thing is i think this thread should only have the input of a few members and there views on the real basics of our sport and then closed so it doesn't get to hard to understand or go off the point what does the webmaster or mods think or is there a need for something like this
  4. i would say ure feeding a little to much too much i would say feed roughlly about a ounce and a quater of corn a day fresh water and pigeon grit and u wont go too far wrong
  5. these boys were tough no doubt id say any half decent boxer wold take them as they telegraph punches and there skills leave a lot to be desired
  6. not so if its to dark they don't feed as much as if there is a moon there is more light its not about the hatching date what im saying in there early life they will be fed through the night also i leave corn for parents in boxes and they can find no problem
  7. i like mine to hatch on a full moon as the parents will feed through the night
  8. would totally agree i dont medicate though the winter but when comes to breeding i do and though the racing i think today its a must and have a routine doing it
  9. that some set up fair play all the best for the future
  10. lol that was quick
  11. is there a site or tel no
  12. cheq pied second bird back is a fine lookng pigeon
  13. well for me the have been a few been around a bit longer than a year the soonjens have to be one for a sprint pigeon they are making there mark at most distances another sprint bird would be the louis cooremans there making there mark where ever they go and in the one loft race two year back i think there was 5 cooremans in the 20 could be wrong on that
  14. well i race sprint but i feed in the box for widowhood about competition for feeding on the floor something wrong there i feel if u are flying widowhood as i feed mine very little for the first 3 days after the race then they are bought up to an once and a quarter come two days before the race i find it hard to get them to eat anything and day before the race impossible if cocks are still feeding like mad day before basketing in my opinion there is something wrong or as i find if they do eat the odd week the day before basketing my performances drop have talked to top pigeon me and they don't like to see them eat either weather they feed on the ground or in the box
  15. yes but surely while your scraping u will be an eye n your droppings anyway and i find with widowhood cocks that u can tell how well the cock rested the night before by keeping the box clean keep an eye on that as it will tell u if there anything on your loft floor in the night for e.g if a cock rests at the front of his box his droppings should should be in a semi circle behind him when u see droppings all over the box i.e the 4 corners it means the cock didint rest to well each box can tell there own story also if kept clean u can tell how many down feathers a cock is dropping shows a sign of form and also u will see a dropped flight straight away so u know when hes hoping mad also i think widowhood cocks are better fed in the box when on widowhood some disagree i know just what i do so i like to keep it clean for that reason too
  16. cant see anything wrong with number 8
  17. well on number 7 a little trick ive learned is if they top flying around the home a toos or two gives them something to think about and in most cases start to fly agan but then again since i got this new familly in i dont see m youngbirds for a hour think a lot down to the drive in the birds
  18. Christ was just wanting a few names did int think id get this sure its all info who's recommended bu defra then
  19. i do this for the first round leave them out as often as i can i leave out a pair in the loft and one in avery u can also guarantee the the parents of the eggs as if u just pair them up and leave them out after a few days its hard to guarantee the parents
  20. i bought the one for sale in the racing pigeon know its costly but when i moved in the house had no one living in it for about 6 months so cats were using the back yard as there place to p*ss and sh*t now i knew i was getting a few birds so i bought one straight away i seen the results got rid of most cats in about 2 days within the week there was one left and never see him no more either he was a tom cat and i think he might have been the leader of the area so did int like leaving u should see when he hit the sensor the hair would stand up on the back of his neck and he would just leave will admit to it taking a little under a week but then again it also says that on the box that it can take a bit longer in some cases just what i have found i see the odd cat around but never see any where the sensor is working
  21. yes true but breeder might have details of who he sold bird too as if bought for stock a lot of times bird don't be transferred
  22. thanks have u used them what u think
