well it's been a day and i'm feeling a bit 'billy no mates'.i've been browsing as a guest for about a year and thought it about time i showed some support for the site as you seem to be the 'good guys'.more info on me.i fly north road and plan to try some scottish races for the first time this year.

i went for the 2nd time. 1st time was when i was about 13 or 14. i had been looking forward to it and so was my 6yr old son. i had saved up for a clock and basket. took my son the toilet while my girlfriend waited outside and some dirty scum bag stole the basket, while she wasn't looking.
;D ;D ;D I hope you made her (girlfriend) buy you another one while you were there
:D . She was most probably looking at all those good looking ??????? ;) pigeon flyers around the place :D . Scumbag is right !!!!!!, I still remember the day someone stole one of my basket's at the local centre, so they (scumbag) are not only at blackpool.

Hi people ,I keep 4 chickhens in a coverd run in my yard,Im just wondering if they are ok to keep in the same area as pigeons ,does anyone have any experience of keeping the two types of bird in the same garden ,thanks IAN
Yes!!!!!!!!! to your question. To the purist's here ??????? No one would recommend keeping ckooks/chickens & pigeons together for health reasons etc. Don't do it ;D ;D ;D.

A few years ago now, I will always remember it with great joy & pleasure ;D ;D ;D we were all at the club (some of us anyway) in a hard 350 mile race, head wind & rain situation, & all had virtually conceded defeat & congratulated Billy, a mate of mine (Ex pom) smart man !!!!
:D on his win & top Fed position :D , & in walks this young (around 10 or 11 & lived out in the bush) lad after we had pulled the clocks etc, & placed his time on the board. No one had even given him a second thought "Being smart pigeon men as we were". Well !!!!!!! he murdered us on the day, & nearly everyone else bar 1 or 2 in the federation.Anyway!!!!! Now I had to go & verify his pigeon being the winner on the day at his loft ?????? (quite a trip from my place) he lived on a steep hill the soil was a rich red colour etc (market garden type) & the loft ????? was at the bottom of the big property. Remember that rain I mentioned above. "Did I not learn something that day". In "THE LOFT" were chooks bantims & quale etc along with all the pigeons & some feathered creatures I couldn't even tell you what they were, even to this day, all living quite happily together on a dirt floor !!!!!! which was more mud than dirt etc & Everything thing within the loft was Red in colour, because the rain just rushed straight down the hill & threw the loft & didn't matter if it was blue black grizzle you name it
:D everything was red, including the winner ;D ;D ;D. At the time the young lad ask me, what I thought about his loft & pigeons, I was under great pressure at that moment to come up with a intelligent reply
;) .Finally, Forget what the purists may advice you here, in their wisdom. If you wish to keep a few different breeds of birds in your back yard etc. Go right ahead & enjoy them for what they are. Just don't keep them together.

i use medication and to be honest only irresponsible fanciers dont use them these days ,AND I DONT USE IT SO ,YOU CALLING ME IRRESPONSIBLE AND THAT I DONT KNOW WHAT AM DOING ,YOUR THE ONE THATS IREESPONSIBLE GIVING OUT ADVICE LIKE THIS ,MY PIGEONS DONT GET MEDICATION OF ANY SORT NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL NATURE ALLOWED THEM TO HAVE AN IMMUNE SYSTEM TO TAKE CARE OF THIS AND PEOPLE WITH YOUR IRRISPONSIBLE ATTITIUDE HAVE WEAKENED IT ,AND TO SAY THAT UNTREATED PIGEONS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SPREADING DISEASE YOU WANT TO READ UP A BIT MORE ON HOW PIGEONS CAONTACT DISEASES

"Tammy 1" on a site such as this, where many of us come from different backgrounds etc & lifestyles, I do not see the need to criticize anyone, when they attempt to give advice in their own familar way & there just happens to be the odd spelling mistake ;D ;D ;D or two. Many of us ( myself included) are not academically gifted in the English langauge, & we just do the best we can. With what god gave us, as they say.

I would love to know. especially after the way, certain birds appear to be handled & treated, within this discussion. Long before the internet & pigeon vet's come on the scene etc (A quite recent event really in pigeon terms, in most cases) People like Sammy & I, learnt to use what was available at the time, through experimentation, To achieve what we have in the sport.
Just a few observations for those that challenge people like Sammy & Myself.
Yes Iv'e been to a vet, & no, not the local guru 10 minutes down the road who many say is a world renowned expert.
:D . It was nearly 10 years ago now when I had my last visit to a vet for advise & wisdom :P & it cost me $138, I still remember it to this day & most of the crap I bought, stayed in the fridge till my wife (She who must be obeyed) threw it all out, after 2 years. I was just saving it for a rainy day, as we say here.Now!!!!!!! You may disbelieve people like Sammy & myself, when in our wisdom we have chosen a different path in this sport, in our endeavours to be successful.
"That is your choice". But ask your self this, how much have you spent on vet's etc or medications in the last 10 years as a example. I may not be the brightest person here
:P But I bet (No not my house) They are richer than you are.I'm not going to go into a long list of items etc, that I have used over the many years in this sport, to treat the above mentioned diseases. But what I will say is!!!!!!!!. If you cannot find numerous items at your local asian/chinese store etc or your local supermarket, your not trying in my view & you just want to take the easy way out, & trot off to the local vet or supply house to increase there profits.
Finally!!!!!! I don't have to travel to far, to see my name up on all the honour boards in gold etc at different clubs in the distance races & averages. Can you say that here. If not. Please try to understand ??????? if you can. Many roads lead to Rome.

hey everyone just wanted to know how to/ or if i need to ween the fledglings in my open loft,
i have 4 "squakers" and their parents are siting on there second clutch (eggs but due to hatch tomorro) and the kids are still getting food of mum and dad.
they are eating on their own aswell but i dont want the parents to neglect their newborns just to feed the "squaking" fledglings.

If you have the 2nd round about due to hatch etc, get the babies away from the parents ASAP (right away) place them in another area. What you are doing in my view is going about it in the wrong way. (We all make mistakes !!!!!!!, we are only pigeon flyers etc) I imagine the way I read your post, you are in the novice catagory (No offence if I 'm wrong) but you have picked a great site to gain information from I believe. Baby pigeons in a normal situation should be away from there parents at least a week in my view before the next round hatches, & they do not need to be any older than 20 - 24 days if bred in a healthy enviroment. Look under there wings, if its fully feathered !!!!!!!, which they should be, move them away to another place. Being a novice ??????, what you are doing in your present situation as it is, is taking all the nourishment & energy that the parents build up in there system in the week prior to hatching, away from the 2nd round & that is not a good thing.

could you explain what you look for, thanks for ur post,
I've found on occassions at times !!!!!!!, that a youngster may leave large traces of blood in the egg shell (Not good in my view) also I do not like to see, in the navel area of a newly hatch baby etc, before it contracts to the normal position. (it should happen quite quickly) part of it left in the egg. (Not good, maybe wrong ;D ;D) For me, I prefer a egg shell to be as clean on the inside as it should be on the outside, within reason.

what do you look for in the nest from day one hatchings, or how soon do you start to judge the youngsters: for health and taking a fancy too, any tips? what you looking for, feeding etc.
Before I even look at the youngster's etc, I always first look at the egg shell, that it hatched from.

Is there a problem with given pigeons milk?
In most cases No. One may purge your birds with ful cream milk or half milk & half water at times, depending on which strenght one chooses. It helps clear any toxins crap or rubbish etc out of there system, especially after a race. There is far worst things one could do to the birds etc, than give them milk at times. Even if they appear down in condition for a short while.

Very Sad, to hear, like many in the sport I only knew him through his writing's via the internet etc. Which to me, were very thought provoking in there content & were an excellent contribution to our sport in general, by him.
Someone in my view !!!!!!. Who was prepared to look outside the square (box) in his endeavour, to make us think in a different way about our sport.

25p in ours any profit goes to prize money but theres not alot
90 cents here (around 40 - 41 p with the conversion etc, by my mathematics) & we buy them by the 100s upon 100s

Permethrin, is a natural insecticide made from flowers etc, which should solve your problem. either spray or dip your birds in the solution, mixed with warm water & soap flakes.
Also Neem powder/spray, if you can purchase it. will do the same job. but first try
Permethrin.
