anybody bred winners out of very old birds
what age and what did its offspring win?
The mistake which many flyers make when breeding from old stock pigeons etc, "is".
They allow the old pigeons to rear there own young, which is a mistake in my view. Much better to foster them under a healthy 2 or 3 year old pair of pigeons. Everyones ones a winner then, (Better & healthier) the way I see it.
Enjoy.

As long as she is past the wanting stages, I am fine ;D

If the eggshell isn't completely smooth, any knobbly bits will cut the bird's cloaca, think that's the tightest bit on the egg's journey out.
Have a look next time,
;)
a hen lays an egg etc, (got to be quick) ;D ;D ;D you will see its like a rubber ball & soft when a hen lays it & I've even seen one layed from a perch at times hit the ground & be perfect. But as I said !!!!!!. You've gotta be quick to see it.

I'm probably not going to be too popular here as I'm a rat owner, not a pigeon owner, but I was hoping to get a bit of info if you don't mind
Apparently pigeons are treated with some of the same antibiotics as fancy rats, like Enrofloxacin(Baytril) and Doxycycline and reading around here I noticed baytril isn't used for pigeons anymore in the UK and saw a post where someone mentioned alternatives to antibiotics? Is this just good general care, etc. or do you use immune boosting supplements or some sort of natural treatments? Also, I was wondering why baytril isn't used anymore, was it causing other health problems in the birds?
It's just general curiosity really, fancy rats as a "species" tend to have a lot of respiratory problems(mostly caused by the underlying mycoplasma the majority of them carry) and baytril is the usual treatment, often used in combination with doxy. Echinacea is recommended as an immune booster, but other than that it's pretty much a treat them, keep their airspace clean, etc.
I hope I'm not offending anyone by posting here, I really appreciate any info you can give ;p
"Ratpigeon" I've known a few rats in my time, ;D ;D ;D
:D
My 2 bobs worth/advice etc. You may like to look up "Canda Plex" on the internet, could be of interest to you & give you a few ideas for the future. I have found it of benefit at times. Not only for me, but the pigeons too, but then
;)
I'm a bit of a herbal freak you could say.

I don't think the scouts would've survived this long if it weren't for fund raising events. Just glad we're helping to give the youngsters a place to go and learn about things and make friends, and it helps to keep them off the streets. And we know that the hospital greatly appreciate it too.
Sounds to me !!!!!!!!! ;D ;D Like your bloods worth bottling etc "Chickadee", & they are very fortunate & lucky to have someone like you, helping them out, as you do. In this day & age, one could say.

went through this problem and had to go to a soliciter his advice was to check the deeds as to any other restrictions such as are the front gardens supposed to be open plan are caravans banned from the house drive etc I looked mine up and found out the other restrictions the sent a letter to all the neighbours saying that I would abide by the covenant on not keeping poultry and pigeons if every one else abided by all the covenants regards no front hedges walls caravan parkinf etc. All complaints dried up within the week . good luck hope this helps
Neighbour's !!!!!!!!! A few years ago now, I went through a similar situation. Federation President come knocking on my door, inspecting everything, because of the trouble I was causing etc council experts, many different ones (None of them, new the difference between a duck & a pigeon) one could say ;D ;D solicitors letters going every which way, you name it.
All because some neighbour (never found out who) objected to my birds !!!! flying in his air space (would you believe it) as he put it, over his house.
At the end of the day ;D ;D my birds are still doing what they do. I don't know what happen to my neighbour thou
:D
Finally !!!!!!! would you believe & to show you how thick !!!!!! some people can be (council) They wanted me to give them a list of all the pigeon members etc in their city. Well the fed president & I laughed over that demand "Big Time" clowns, that they were.
Enjoy.

You missed what I said, the hens that are laying are being stimulated by eachother stick them in a box on their own and they wont lay like chickens cause there is no sexual stimulation which is probably why Im not laying either lol ;D
Fare enough !!!!!!!!
;) ;D ;D It looks as if I'm, going to be a very very very busy boy, over the next month or so. One could say "Building Boxes"
:D
.
Re Laying !!!!!!
:) I won't use those other 2 words you mentioned above, but I was muted many years ago ;D ;D So it appears to me ?????? (Could be wrong) neither of us

as it is.

Awe isn't he cute, does he help you with the birds daily?
;D ;D ;D I worry about you at times Chickadee
;)
here. I imagined you would have been well past the cluckey stage in life.
Nice thou !!!!!! to see a young lad keen on the birds, one could say.
Enjoy.

so your saying that the hens just sat quietly side by side and eggs just happened? I think not your kidding yourself, study the reproduction of the species a little more deeply, they chased each other and stimulated one another dont worry thats obviously why DOVEScot thought they were a proper pair, they had him fooled by the sound of it till 4 eggs appeared so not so dumb after all ;D
What I said was !!!!!!!, These pigeons made a fool ;D ;D out of Dovescot (Sorry Dovescot
:P) as experienced as he is. Because he just thought they were a male & a female. Many could relate to this situation here I'm sure.
No mention was made, whether they hatched or not for what I saw/read, if they did we all know a lucky ;D ;D ;D cock was involved etc.
Now !!!!!! if one thinks that hens on there own will not lay, one is mistaking. Because under certain conditions, they will lay like chooks (well at least every 10 days) if you allow them, which only a fool
;)
would allow, & they certainly don't need a cock to stimulate them in this process of laying eggs etc (hatching !!! different story) & if you doubt me, in what I say I will show you a loft full of old hens, on there own, & not a cock in site. Happily sitting on eggs etc.
Enjoy.

I hope you're not insinuating what I think you are Lennut? And I'm glad you put an appology next to what you said, as you most definately were wrong. :X
Just for you Chickadee !!!!!!
:)
I will pleed guilty as charged
:D
if it makes you happy :K) :K) :K). I have a very mischievious nature at times (Sorry) I will try an improve my skill levels here for you, in this department. Just send me to the gallows, & I will follow in my good mate
:) Ned's footsteps.
At least ;D I will admit to everyone, when I place foot in mouth & make a fool of myself etc.
Not like a recent mate ?????? of mine here :X :X
:D
*** when he placed his foot in his mouth "Big Time" & fell on his sword etc,
:D
& as he found out !!!!!!!. Life has many twists & turns to it. Especially when you attempt to assassinate someone here.
Enjoy.

good job we havnt got a nieghbour within 1/2 a mile
he means well but i hope the winds come and take it away ;D ill show you a photo when its finished ::)also the other lofts out of the old buildings they are a lot better 8)
;D ;D ;D I think by the sounds of it
;)
your neigbours are very very lucky ??????? ;D ;D by what you say above.
As rough & ready
:)
as some lofts are etc, as many of us have seen I imagine here. For the pigeons !!!!!!, as long as they are dry inside etc. I don't think the birds give a hoot at times, as long as there is food on the table every night for supper etc. They would I imagine think ??????. They are living in a palace, one could say.
Enjoy

I never seperate young birds till they are completely feathered under the wings, have seen previous posts on here when folk say they seperated their birds at 16 days old :-/ :-/ :-/ on average mine are 28 to 30 days old before they are moved.
Interesting topic !!!!!!!!!, as some here now know ?????? I'm a bit of an odd bod on this site ;D ;D ;D come from another planet. Or as someone who recently emailed me here ;D ;D ;D, & called me a "Nutter" a term of endearment
:D
I presume. "Could be wrong" He better not do it again to me, or I will name him here. So smartarse !!!!! that you are, you have been warned.
Now to business !!!!!!! Tammy 1. Because of our weather & other factors etc, I would be in all sorts of trouble, if I allowed my birds to stay together. Till they were 28 to 30 days old etc.
When breeding here, its 30 to 35 days at the very latest, between eggs for me. Some are even quicker at times & any stock hen that can not fit into that time frame is gone in my loft, as I like to have at least 7 days rest between rounds etc, one could say.
As an example !!!!!!! I mate on the 1st of October every year, & take 3 rounds & I'm finished on the 31 January (123 Days) at the very latest, lock stock & barrel, no if's or buts. Which you would see, under your system 28 -30 days just could not be done.
"Interesting thou" how different things are done ;D ;D ;D it does just show us, how at times things are quite different. "Re FLY Aways etc"
:D
Enjoy.
