Im sure like all Good distance birds Rec Barcelona is just one of the many who set some kind of legacy regarding himself, likewise I am sure he produced many C/Sons,how many has got his capabilities, and how many would ever show his ability, this being the same for all named birds, methinks it might be done a lot easier if a fancier concentrated on his own birds using distance flying methods, each year selecting and concentrating on ones showing best after longest time on wing, and possibly using established distance crosses on occassions, history has taught me that all distance families have been created in this manner I really beleive a distance family can be built from within with these methods, they already have ingrained two very important things, tried and tested on hard races, enviroment, and love of home bred in them. Once again its my opinion only.

All things considered, and my opinion is you are doing well enough, really its a question you yourself can only answer, are YOU satisfied, can YOU do better, are YOU enjoying YOUR birds, keeping and racing is hardly the same for any two fanciers, likewise time available, and you have got to cut your cloth according to your measurements,so hopefully you are enjoying them, regardless of time input.

The amount of Young Bird losses is factual in most instsnces, disregarding methods of management,it basically happens to the same fanciers, there appears to be an element of fanciers in most clubs that dont suffer these terrible losses, barring accidents, this leads me to summarize its mostly the methods employed thats chiefly to blame, foremost one being the quality of youngster being produced with fanciers having 100/150/200/rings and sadly using them,in lots of instances breeding from so called superior paper pigeons, sometimes to the detriment of their own tried and tested birds. These are only two reasons, there are too many more to list here to any new novices I would say to them walk before you run,and for a lot of the rest, get back to basics.

My own opinion on first part is,for it to be a fair and equal race,it should be capable of being flown in daylight hours, when birds have a night out for whatever reason, enforced or weather etc, there has to be a good deal of luck involved. My Ideal distances for these would be North Road 400/500 and for South Rd something around 500/600 with to days birds capable of same. Conditions and Weather Permitting on Day.

Would think its somewhat easier to get a distance bird to perform at sprint rather than vice/versa,its already proven to have heart, conditioning then being done by fancier, with distance racing its more to do with bird, though the right system has also to be in place, bird has to have qualities like tenacity, the spirit to keep going regardless, heart, the birds with these qualities are what makes best distance performers regardless of strain name. The hardest road in my opinion on this side of the World has got to be the North Road and birds flying into the S/S.W of Ireland and also S/S.W of Wales from North Rd racepoints at the distance have got to have these qualities in abundance, Again only my opinion.

I tend to see this as educating youngsters rather than training, like all education its best done over a period rather than grinds,I would do exactly the same with second round, this being from three points of compass, learning them how to navigate then from same lib site 25mls on line of flight, late evening, when they should learn to home with utmost urgency, due to impending dusk,if they should encounter a problem in any evening lib, well and good they are usually close enough to home following morning.Youngsters and indeed yearlings I bieleive should be handled with utmost care, till two years old, then they are the complete package, with hopefully a good selection to choose from, then ask all the questions.

Nine times out of ten its the N/Road especially at the distance, proof being winning vel on any given day, tail wind for S/Road is Head Wind for North Rd prevailing wind is mostly West/South/West,also a factor is SUN,which is in face of N/Roader and on back of S/Roader,imagine your own eyes after facing into strong sunlight for 5 or 6 hours on a consistent basis,

This post appears rather contrdictoty ie leave it alone/exam to qualify/,to treat as it happens, the individual asked for advice to treat a bird which he believed was ill, advice asked-advice given, all above posts offered their advice, except above. maybe you have just posted for the sake of posting ? -
Dont think I would like its back up,lovely dogs really.

You never put syringe down birds throat, you use a syringe to put contents into crop. White Sesqui Tablet main ingredients are 90% bread soda - Bicor /Soda -
Almost the same as above, only I would use 3 or 4 courses of blocks, all around,an use GRILL FLOORS. from block to block, constructing fame loft on block walls walls.

Enjoyed your sense of humour, nice one, if I had Delbars I would surely let you have something, whats the reason for Delbars if its perchance, good birds they come in all shapes, and sizes, and Im all sure strain names, wish you all the best in your searching.

If its valuable as regards your breeding plans, and you have access to a vet,get him to prescribe Baytril which is a broad spectrum anti biotic,or a home remedy in case of coxi imbalance is breadsoda, mix with water and use a syringe to fill its crop on a daily basis 4/5 days. Good Luck. I f you intend to race it you might thing of disposing of it -
The obvious answer is similar to above, its the type/strain of birds thats winning on a regular basis into whatever area its being raced
-
Too many to list and still making them no doubt, never be afraid to make a mistake, its all part of the learning process, trial and error, its more important if you learn from your mistakes, wishing you all the best,oh never be scared to ask.

I wouldnt be the Worlds greatest fan of Show Birds, you could not help but show admiration for these two birds, and the condition that they have been snapped in Well Done they are a credit to their owner.

With the amount of obstacles they have to face in to days racing, with fingers crossed Depending on the character of bird,a Hen sitting 12 to 14 days A Cock standing over a 14 + day old youngster on his tod for 5/6 days

My own notes, being a scribbler regarding the birds, writing it down as I went along, over the years, reading back on these notes at anytime, gives me most everything now, laughter, constant contradictions, constantly trying to put images/ appearances,colours/ to sometimes only numbers, and those I can recollect, their ability, their final demise, joys and disapointments in abundance over fifty years of racing and breeding our feathered friends,to a non pigeon fancier,it would surely read in some form of cryptic code,to me all pigeon life is there, and a good deal of my own is also here, oh yeah, still scribbling..

Again I think that there are number of reasons why our sport is fading, its origin began in an era when monies and the benifits that kids enjoy to day was non existent,in my day keeping pigeons was equivilant to all the oppertunities youngsters have to day,too many to mention,to entice new people in the sport wold have to be packaged and sold to these kids, and also to older people, who now have more recreation time than ever in their history, this would have to be done at the top,a top class p/r system through the medium of T.V and the daily tabloids, highlighting the positives of the game,on a continuing basis at National level, especially through the schooling system, the basics are always there re youth and pets, encourage it,and harness it to pigeons, can this be done, not forgetting the image of our sport is some what akin to an underground sport everywhere except among ourselves,we know this isnt so,but we are preaching to those already converted, better if we display and sell to newbies,we would have to clean our own house up quite a bit,are we able,if not what the eventual outcome will be. ? well
