Wishing both of you the best, all fanciers young or old are faced with an amount of"what if" with youngsters, you can only do what you think is best,if possibile leave them walk out,,and do their own (always on an empty crop)you should have your call signal for them in being at this stage, presently they will start to excercise around loft, always have an old/birds on loft/fly with them, now my system when they are getting strong on wing,no more outing only in evenings, reason being if for any reason they decide to run impending dusk will limit their range,if they keep going, next morning hopefully they are not too far away, easier for them to navigate home, likewise when training youngsters, late evenings only, actually this should read educating youngsters,as when kept properly they are naturally fit anyway,if you have time feed sparingly good peanuts, helps to boost confidence with birds/yourself.

What about pigeon fanciers join the Save Our Songbirds Org,raise the funds, take out a full page ad in a National Tabloid on a monthly basis, showing a very graphic picture of a Raptor doing its usually savagery on a songbird, With a Caption Which one is R,S P.B protecting,an dproduce facts, not propaganda. Pigeons do have a bad press,in instances we are also to blame, when these raptor people pop on.its to antagonise us,we should never stoop to their level, this should be about ALL prey birds,we would Im sure get much more support

Nowher above do I read that "Club"has not allowed this little lady to join, what I am reading is "hearsay" my advice to you is make application,an dif she is refused membership, this young lady and any others shoud be welcomed into any pigeon club,or then membership would have a "serious"case on their hands
-
My own opinion would be have a shared loft location/birds with each fancier having a number of extra birds say 12 birds registered to a junior member age limit/family relative/neighbours child/any youngster really, using existing flyers loft/rescources/with a junior section in clubs for them to compete in,at a very moderate fee. This would eliminate expenses involved/lofts/birds/clock/ also handicap of training, also learning how to maintain care/train/feeding etc, under constant supervision of more established flyer would make it much easier on any wannabe, going to stick at eventually get own set up, a bit of give and take on both sides its a workable project if they do tire of it,no harm done ,no loss.,

Justaskme Well its a decision each fancier has to make, mine is not to flock/treat or routinely treat, something I havent done for last nine years,in that time,in fairness for some years previous,I have not seen canker break out in any of my birds,if it does, I would treat individual bird, this practice has not made the slightest bit of difference to their racing ability in that nine years, now the real issue if Raptor problem overpopulation is not halted, this whole racing game of ours is in deep S... when you blind/routine treat, a fancier is actually making these food parcels safe and hygenic,by removing toxins that will kill its predators, now if fanciers would want to do something so simple to protect our sport/game,how can we expect any outsider to help.
-
Why not do whats been suggested on another thread, and more forcibily it seems on another site, stop treating our birds for canker.unless they show clinical signs of same, read IBs posts on Eagle Owl thread

No wouldnt think so ,nothing to worry about if any problem/illness first thing to go is appetite.
-
Just been speaking to owner who was contacted by Sec,he will be in touch later with you later as regards 157.
-
Invalidusersname Im sure the owner will let you keep this bird, if you wish to report it,dont worry about "weird" feelings, this is what you enjoy on a constant basis when you keep pigeons, its not unusual I would imagne 75% of fanciers were introduced to pigeons in similiar circumstances, and like many more of us it appears you are" hooked" If yoou might like me to report bird on your behalf, explaining circumstances, would be happy to help Wishing you all the best.

Gangster Go mait a buachailll

Karl wing stamping/contact ring no of course they are avery good idea, that they are not reported,in lots of instances is down to the calibre of fancier, how you legislate for their type I just dont know,my own scenario for many seasons has if it has contact details, I ring, after that its the owners decision as to fate of bird. If we as pigeon fanciers cant cater for a fellow fanciers bird, why should we expect any one else to give a damn. to report via unions is totally outdated, and t

Timbarra, against my better judgement I know I should totally ignore you because on a scale of 1/10 you are way off the scale, log on to www, racingpigeon.ie,you will find my last two seasons Old Bird results on same under M/F

in agrement with both Jack and Slugmonkey on above, especially on feathering with "hard feathered" birds performing especially well on damp or wet race days.
-
No problems there swilcox, just let us know how and when, wish him all the best,a very deserving cause no doubt.
-
Good post Crispian, welcome,I really think we as pigeon fanciers must learn to take our sport more serious, before we can expect any others to do so.

These systems work but only in short term, works on the priciple S/H being a very territorial bird, has its own area, wherby sight//glimpse of its own reflection causes confusion,it is a fearsome little creature and will eventually overcome these deterrents if it has to,i.e no other options.
