  1. Need to treat regular for canker and cocci especialy when racing. i think young bird losses would be down if most people did this.

    stray birds

I drive up to scotland most monday morning and since the beginning of the race season, and have liberated 4 pigeons from happendon services. would like to have informed the fancier but don't know how to get in touch with them (just to let them know that the birds are ok.
  4. Good louck hope you get them all back.
  5. Thank you all for the sound advice, it i very much appreciated. Wings
  6. My yearling this year only had 1 race last year as YB and have done well this year all though i have lost a few but in the last 2 races i have had 100% returns so may be there is something to be said for holding them back.
  7. My 1st goal is to get a team together so as to race each week and have decent returns, I would in time like to race pigeons at long distance. Though i do realise that that it will take a few years to get a team together. i've been in the prizes 5 times this year so realy happy with that. the problem is some of the advice i have been given hasn't helped, thoug all theinformation i have recieved from this sight has been good solid advice.
  8. Thanks for replying, do you think that waiting until they are that bit older is better for them, especilay for the experiance they get racing inland. i was told by a guy to race my young birds and yearlings as much as possible and to send them to every race as far as they go. took his advice last year and lost the lot all he said was that the birds were no good. you certainly have answered the question, for me though i will have to give your last paragraph a lot of thought, maybe watch the weather closely. Thanks again
  9. Hi everyone, i have been racing pigeons now for 2 years, last year i lost all my yearlings because (i think i pushed them to hard) this year i have kept all my birds racing inland and had some good results. Next year i intend to send only the 2 year olds over the water. and keep the yearlings inland again. What does the experianced racing men and woman think about this. do you think this is a good idea or not.
  10. That sounds good, it is just getting some of the older hands interested. a lot of these clubs have been going a long time.
  11. I fully agree with you PJC to many small clubs when there could be 1 bigger club, the only problem is that new starters will can easily get disheartened when never in the prizes, maybe they should have races within races to avoid this. i will gladly sign anything that will help keep this great sport going.

Is it definatly on 08 pigeon because i have lost a bird GB 07N78142 it should have had a ring on with the telephone number on if it is. Cheers
  13. Yes welcome. There are loads of fanciers with a lot of knowledge on here if you need it, good to have you aboard.
  14. Its not looking good for them then, well thanks for the replies. hope you all have a good race this weekend.
  15. Because i don't think it is fair to keep a bird locked up if you can fly it, and to be honest i hadn't had problems with the hawks thats why i was asking the question, to give me some idea if the birds disapearing in pair may have somthing to do with the perigrines near by, that i have just heard about. if i had known that a falcon was working near by i would have tried to be abit more carefull though i don't know how. i race pigeons and they have to train, if running the gaunlet is part of it then thats the way it will be.
  16. does any body know if Perigrins hunt in pairs while feeding youngsters, the reason i ask is that i know that we have a nest about 1 and a half miles from were i life, on the local church, well over the last 3 days i have lost 4 pigeons. and they have been lost in pairs an 03 pigeon and the others are 08 pigeons, some times the youngster disapear for about half and hour or so ranging, they don't seem to come back in dribs and drabs like i thought they would if they had been attacked.
  17. phone Terry Dawber on 01257421271
  18. I went just this morning 15 miles to meet a guy to return his stray pigeon it will have cost him about 10 pounds to come and collect the bird by road, so hopefully i have saved him 20 pounds from the price of Amtrak i would not have dreamed of asking him for money for looking after it for the week. whu rule 62 page25 must reward to equivalent of currant Amtrak charges also covers rule 39 page14 I think that this rule needs to questioned at WHU next AGM.
  19. Yes i have had the same. Who is Lizzie Rigby, Pigeon health same result every time.
  20. If i were to give rings to a collector on pigeon basics would i need to transfer them to him/her. what i'am getting at is if somebody were to put the rings on a bird and then lost this bird i would be liable for the collection of this bird as the registered owner of the ring, comments and thoughts please.

    strays

    probably hundreds my friend.
  22. I still have 8 missing out of 13 hopefully they will come today or maybe some. It seems that the hens that were raced in our club have come a lot better than the cocks, there might be some thing in raceing cocks in to a east wind.
  23. Don't feed them the 5pm feed, the next day midday-ish let them on to the landing board, and let them have a good look round if they want let them on the floor to walk around, but most of all make sure they are hungry, this is what i do it works for me, do not startle them if they are hunhgry they wont stray to far, if you think they are particulaly strong on the wing damp there wings down so they can't fly to far. hope some of this helps good luck
