  1. Well Jimmy, after trying to get pigeon products from various firms for some time now without luck i decided to try to find some of the stuff i needed here in Iceland, i guess these firms have so many customers and so much money that they don´t need me or my money, i guess it is thier right to refuse to do business with me.

    Protein

Much has been said about protein in pigeon feed and how much it should be and that it must be controlled, but in your opinions what is the ideal amount in % in lets say a breeding mixture, a flying mixture and a young bird mixture?
  3. ok thank you for your good answers Oldyellow, would you happen to know if there is a way for me to process it into the very useful stuff i have been feeding my birds or should i just bin it and start looking again?
  4. this liquid stuff smells like beer, does it have alcohol in it?? it is from a brewery but i guess my mistake was not to ask more about it. After i smelled it i´m not sure about feeding it to the birds so i thought of asking if someone has used it,
  5. i guess it is just the waste product but i´m not really sure
  6. Since a certain company has said no to shipping pigeon products to Iceland i started to look where i could get some of the stuff i have been using for the past few years. The product i was most interested in getting and in my opinion one of the most important is brewers yeast. The only thing i could find here in Iceland was liquid brewers yeast, which i can get as much of as i need and for free, i went today to pick it up for the first time to see what it looks like and if i could use it, now i have always used the dry powder type so i am not sure if this is exactly the same stuff, so i was wondering if someone has used this and could tell me what it should look and feel like and what it should smell like.
  7. Many studies done indicate that no matter how much vitamins you eat your body does not pick them up, but you can maximize the affect by eating this vitamin with oil the other with water and the third with something else as different vitamins need different types of food to get picked up by the body, hope you all know what i mean. About the brewers yeast, this is the best stuff i have come across and don´t use anything else, i just love products that you can see a real difference.
  8. well with costumer service like this they might go out of business in the coming months.
  9. but i don´t understand that because we would pay for all packing and shipping
  10. Well, our union here in Iceland planned a big order, members got together and looked at catalogues and put in orders for what they needed only to be told by Boddy and Ridewood that they will not be sending the goods, no explination given.
  11. I don´t clean unless i have reason to, that is if the loft gets wet or if there is high humidity, in the winter months here in Iceland we sometimes have very high humidity % and sometimes it rains for weeks, horizontal rain is my porsonal favorite, because after i also have to dry the back wall of the loft. So i´d say in the winter i clean maybe 1-2 a week but in summer 1 a month at the most, no diseases or health problems of any kind really.
  12. I always try to keep only the birds worth keeping and they have to have a purpose in the loft, i never keep birds just to keep them and have them do nothing but sit and wait because you might have use for them later on, one might say that keeping extra hens to help wean youngsters is good, i don´t do it but thats just me, plus i have found that the youngsters can easily do it on thier own without the help of feeder hens. lets say i have selected down to 8 cocks and 10 hens, i do not go and find 2 more cocks to keep, i find 2 more hens to get rid of.
  13. COMMON SENSE!!!! far to many fanciers talk about using common sense in everything you do about your birds but far to few actually use it, for an example it is common sense not to medicate all your birds if only one or two are sick (No.3) Totally agree with No.7 Totally disagree with No.8
  14. Below are articles/interview about Meulemans, he talks a littla bit about the chocolate birds and if i recall right about why they are not in his loft today. About 10-15 years a fancier here in Iceland imported 6 birds from Louella, to cut a long story short, they did nothing here. http://www.schaerlaeckens.com/upload/part03.htm http://www.schaerlaeckens.com/upload/part04.htm
  15. Few jokes about the Icelandic bank owners and goverment.
  16. Thank you Kenny. No snow here in Iceland yet but much rain last month and now it is getting a bit cold.
  17. Check out this website, http://indefence.is/ It is there to try to fight Gordon Browns decision to use the anti-terrorism act against Iceland. And before someone says it, i know very well that some Icelandic bank owners have done a number on many people in England but they have also done bad things to us, the people of Iceland.
  18. Why is it so impossible for people on here to stick to the thread subject, if you have any information for me, i´d be most thankful but if not don´t write about something else.
  19. If any of you know about a fancier that is also a football fanatic could you check if they might be here in Iceland.
  20. Hi all As some of you may know the scottish football team is here in Iceland and will play against our team tonight, as a result we have alot of scottish people visiting our country to watch the game and have a good time. So i was just wondering if any of you know if maybe one or more pigeon men might be in the group?
  21. If it was me i would pair them in march at the first, but i intend to give latebreeds more time then birds born in the spring or summer. For an example i have two hens born in the first week of august which will not be paired until april or even may.
  22. When are they born?
  23. Youngsters have started to hatch from my last round this summer and i want to try and avoid letting the hens lay again but i´m not sure about the timing and how exactly to do this, how old must the youngsters be for the cock to finish rearing them on his own?
  24. mac1, are you asking me or someone else? i´d be glad to help if needed, i read and write danish so no problem.
