A lot of talk on the peanut front with no mention of peanut oil as an alternative. For a feed the size of peanuts are they really very valuable to our pigeons?? or Is most of the nut of little use and an uneccessary strain on the birds digestion?? Interested to hear the forum's thoughts. Are you a nutter??

Cracking pigeons. Just had a very intersting conversation about Belgian pigeons there wi ma Irish pal. He told me the doos in his loft can be traced back to Belgian birds that were introduced to Northern Ireland in 1908. At the time the linen trade was the big thing in Ireland so they got ships coming into Belfast from all over Europe.Eventually these Belgians cottoned on to the fact(nae pun intended ) that a lot of the Belfast workers were doo daft.So they started bringing big "hampers" ae doos across with them. They'd all meet in a park in Belfast and the Irish boys would look through the doos and pick out what they liked. There name was then recorded beside the pigeons ring number and the birds were singled up. If they were back home in Belgium before the next trip across they were brought back and the Irish lads would have to pay a guinea for them.If they didn't make it home then nothing happened. Thats one way to test the homing ability of yer foundation stock I wonder how many of the Belgian birds brought into Ireland today could manage that ???

I asked Derek Norden about Danny Boy at the AGM actually as I thought it was down through his old family,he told me it was down through Leen Boers pigeons-it was some doo either way . A wee clue about 4th and 3rd,it was a hen.It was 580miles from Rennes to its loft and it was on the night both times.

Thought about a way of making this quiz format a bit better if yous wnated it to become a bit more of a regular thing. Could maybe put questions up on a Wednesday all answers to be PM'd to an independant adjudicator by Thursday midnight. If enough members are interested yous could sort yourselves out into teams and converse via PM. If we do it up until the racing starts could maybe have a wee quiz league table etc. Its only an idea, hopefully give some folk a bit of interest until the days get longer again and we start spending the nights out at the dookit.

Had a good read at some of them and I have to say after years of searching I have found the secret to domination at the top level. Give it a try this year and see how your doos perform.
