  1. Just had a wee look and he has made the open result the last 5 times from the SNFCs furthest race as well.Had to go back to 2006 when he was 2nd open as there wasn't a Tours race in 2007. yeh along with Derek Norden they all featured in at least three of the last five
  2. Richard Combe Think he stays in the same street as John Bosworth. I'll look over it later to make sure its right but I think hes the only one
  3. Keep trying Stevie Dal A clue-yer in the right area
  4. Good effort but try again
  5. May be wrong as I checked it fairly quickly I think there is only ONE fancier who has taken an open position in the SNFC Gold Cup race for the last 5 years consecutively. Without looking who do you think it is??
  6. Scotland has been blessed with many fantastic fliers at the distance over the years,it'd be impossible to list them all. The one who stands out for me,being someone who has scored consisitently at the highest level for half a century,is John Ellis of Wellbank.
  7. Like yourself and others on here I too am trying to build a team of birds to score well from the distance events.Found the people I've been in contact with, locally or otherwise,to be much the same and I've been fortunate enough to have bought and been gifted birds from these fanciers. Not to mention learning a lot from them and recievng some great advice. I speak with a lot less experience than most on here but I'm of the opinion a team of top long distance pigeons are made not bought.By this I mean there is a huge difference between good bloodlines and good pigeons. There are many who have spent small fortunes on the best bloodlines available and have never made the grade. There are also many who have founded dynasties of winners from pigeons they got from Jimmy down the road. Obviously you are giving yourself a good chance of success if you acquire birds as closely related as you can to winning pigeons down from generations of winning pigeons. This is only the beginning though. Any top long distance fanciers I've visited, although methods may vary, all tend to have similar philosophies and the ability to turn good bloodlines in good pigeons. This seems to be achieved through starting with a foundation of healthy birds maintained with sensible management and thoroughly tested at the distance year in year out, with no fear of losing pigeons-even birds which have scored previously.
  8. Yip its the same in every walk of life.Theres good eggs and bad eggs
  9. Can see what your sayin Adam but regardless of how many the loft that was 2nd sent he still conditioned a bird to finish 2nd open in a NFC race from 600 miles.
  10. Thats a bit unfair
  11. On the other side of the coin do you think sometimes people are a bit too quick to put birds to stock?? If a bird scores well up once from a big race does this make it a champion pigeon worthy to breed off for years to come??Or was it just in the physical condition of its life and in the right batch on the day?? Saying that you could try to race it the following year and lose it from a 60 mile race. What a tangled web we weave
  12. Scott Morrison,Grangemouth
  13. You'll never know if its the pair that pre potent or if its one of them thats the superstar unless you split them. Would you not say a true top breeder is one who breeds top racers with many different mates??Obviously if you split them you'll be putting them with other birds you think highly of. Look at the Shadow
  14. I want some ack shown
  15. Won't mention names but I went on a loft visit a few years back in which the man was so good at widowhood-the cocks basketted themselves He wouldnae tell ye a birds nest mind you

  18. Stop Kidding us on. Ask yer pal
  19. Well done Scotty
  20. Top Class
  21. People talk of all rounders. The mans a SNFC YB nat winner,SNFC inland Nat winner and of course a Kings Cup winner. At his very peak it was arguably the purplest patch anyones ever been through in the SNFC. Glad to see he is keeping the performances up after his illness
  22. Geoff Kirkland is doing well with them
  23. One of the best ever He visited ma hoose when I was a wean, think I was afraid of his tache
  24. My point is that good performances are put up every year from every Section within the club.Every now and again a special flier or pigeon comes along that does things that defy their geographical location and make their excuse seeking peers look a bit silly.Years down the line they are remembered for their Open positions and performances in relation to their position, not the ammount of pool money they have won. Obviously if you are a big pooler you'll have a better chance of getting a return for your money in the regional pool if you arenae pooling against the eyemouth boys. You are entitled to your vote at the AGM Have a nice Christmas I'm away out fer now
  25. I'm fairly impartial with regards to the proposed new regions and can see the views from boths sides of fence. Looking at this map provided the last few days puts into persepctive what the SNFC is all about though for me.Its about admiring the top performances every race and season throws up.This is not necessarily just admiration and respect for fanciers that have topped Open and Sections but for all those fanciers and brave birds that have put in great performances covering many miles to get to their homes ALL OVER the country. Obviously a lot of the time the wind direction will decide the open and section winners but this shouldn't take away from birds in other parts of the country that have clearly been up with them.Obviously we all want to beat every pigeon in the transporter but this is only possible for a minority.Enjoy your pigeons, theres room for us all. As a point of interest "miracles" have been achieved in the past-The East Section Averages have been won into Cambus,a stones throw from Stirling.
