Thanks for entering all,the more that join the more successful it's likely to be We'll leave that discussion for another thread Stuart, will just use this one for a few days until we get numbers and we'll pick up the finer details from there -
Will try and get a picture of the winner up
-
I wasn't under the impression you knew the seller. Pleased at the outcome and I'm sure the seller has gotten more than he would have had you not picked up on it Sorry if any offence has been caused and well done again

Pb Snfc Gold Cup Single Bird Challenge
Rooster J. Cogburn replied to Rooster J. Cogburn's topic in Notice Board
I’ve spoken David Black on the mobile there (interrupted his holiday lol) and he’s told me how theirs started off and how the prize money has developed since the beginning. It started with 20 invites, one declined and 19 took part. After the success of the first year where 14 of the 19 entries made the race and the 1st and 2nd in the challenge were actually 1st and 2nd in the Open it was decided to open it up to ALL members of the INFC It started with a fee which began as £5 then moved up to £10 and under this format it attracted between 100-200 entries It was then the INFC took it on board- they are sound financially at the moment and for the last couple of years have put up prize money to the tune of £1000. A member who runs a successful business has put sponsorship up for the first 3 birds and pays for the framed photo and diploma and Joe Doheny(the first winner of the Single bird challenge and twice INFC Kings Cup winner) has donated a nice cup to be presented to the winner each season. After these generous donations, the fee was scrapped and the entry is increasing each year. I like the idea of the single bird challenge and feel it would be good publicity for Scottish pigeon racing once it got going. Of course it will take a bit of time to get going and we have to start somewhere. It was for this reason I thought PB would be a good testing ground for it in the 2013 season and if all goes to plan we could launch it through the BHW open to all members in 2014. PB is good as well in as much as those taking part can keep everyone updated on their entry through the season and give some information on their preparation if they feel so inclined. This could be beneficial to some and I’m sure we could all pick up some tips/dos and don’ts along the way. Davie has stressed to me he feels it should be a single bird challenge with no reserves, but this is something we can discuss along with other SBC matters on another thread once we have definite numbers. As for the prizes I was thinking along the lines of a small entry fee and hope to organise a summer young bird sale in conjunction with some sponsorship, with a percentage going to a charity of the members choice or the charity the SNFC chooses to support through the Gold Cup race itself. If we could keep this thread along the lines of a yes or no for now and we can start up a discussion thread once it’s ran its course. These are the name I can pick up as Yeses. Geordie1234 B.Massey Alec Guinness Dava Jimmy W Sapper756 Lanarkshire Lad Dkj Aye Ready Sammy Blue63 Blaz Peter Pandy Budgie Wuldon Novo10 Other members who have contributed to the thread, I didn’t want to put words in your mouth but if you could confirm you want to take part that would be smashing. The more that take part the better it will be -
Well done lads A nice thing to have and good its being kept in the fancy.TREBLE D has done the seller a bit of a favour as well
-
Unlucky Peter It doesn't look like a silver dealer whos bought it going on their purchase history and the price they paid for it.
-
I've spoken to Hugh on the phone there and Ruby(Anderson) can't think how it made its way down to Bradford
-
We've only got three and a quarter hours left, would be a shame for it to be scrapped
-
Thats very interesting I know one of the Anderson Bros daughters,in fact shes married to one of our clubmates. She has a portrait of the Rennes winner in the house.

Scottish Fanciers Self Destructing
Rooster J. Cogburn replied to peter pandy's topic in Clubs/Organisations Topics & Events
The trouble lies with having too many federations, breakaways that have their own agendas and make joint convoying for coastal racing an impossibility. All because they don't want to go with such and such. Some areas have members racing in as many as four organsisations where there used to be just one. The small feds have become reliant on the likes of the SNFC to give them coast racing as many of the members will refuse to fly against members across the road from them. Very disturbung and I know many of them like to think its for a good cause they are breaking away, but the deep routed issue is they want to win races. Not sure if its arrogance on their part or naivety but they are happier to win in a mickey mouse organisation rather than finish 2nd or even last in strong competetion. They are only kidding themselves and those in a similar mind set. Part of this self destruct nature Peter has highlighted is not just through too many organisations but the in fighting amongst them. Too many people believe everything they hear. They are influenced by a minority who take pleasure in circulating empty rumours and things they want to believe. If adjacent organisations were to group together there would be no need for inland nationals and fanciers could enjoy coastal racing on a much leveler playing field. -
The Reid of Stenhousemuir on the result,Roland, died in 1988 if memory serves me well
-
Same to yourself John
-
Lost you now John Don't know about being very clever, maybe being very stupid as I can't see what differences it will bring security wise compared to the way it is now Like I said if its raised at the AGM and good reasons given as to how it will improve security I will happily put my hand up for it. Will leave it at that,as we're goin over old ground
-
can you tell me the security advantages central marking brings?? Can see advantages in as much as the doos are spread through the baskets better and no fancier will get a whack ae doos in the same basket Can see disadvantages in its no easy to get to for a lot of the members and central marking today compared to say 10 years ago would mean central clock checking due to ETS unless a lot of base station are used and divied up over the country.Would be a bit of a chore taking a day to come a clear a clock if ye hadnae timed in. Not trying to be a smart**se John, I'd just like to hear the security advantages/differences central marking would bring, compared to the way it is at present.I am toiling to think of any,but if there are some and it will improve security in the races I'd be more than happy to vote for it
-
Why should this be the case though?? Its done in certain parts of Europe. If there is someone watching a fancier ring and swipe their doos then put it in a basket. How can it be less secure?? You'd have to be Dynamo Magician Impossible to crack it I can't see this ever happening in this country, only stating something that I would like to see happen and in a way help with security.
-
agree with you 100% John If your suggesting I have a problem with it then you couldn't be more wrong. I was only asking how central marking is more secure than the way it is now??
-
If I had my way every fancier could put their own doos through, under supervision of course.Personally I can see no security issues under this format and it would give the fancier greater peace of mind. I purposely take note after each marking night of who marked and handled our doos at the nationals.I have no complaints, but it would be a shame for a fancier to lose a years work in the last few seconds to basketting due to a handler perhaps putting his hand somewhere on the bird he shouldn't. On the other side of the coin and far less harmful are the handlers that have the wings open and near enough the eyeglass oot Its no a show, get the doo in the basket

Rooster J. Cogburn replied to Rooster J. Cogburn's topic in Notice Board
theres a few superstitious fanciers in Ireland who purposely don't nominate their main fancy -
I disagree Gareth He was caught becasue someone took the time to stay through the duration of the marking.Nothing to do with it being central, regional or any other al. Was there a time when the SNFC would send out letters of invitation to markers?? If anything this would increase security having a few people in the markin station from start to finish.
