  1. I'm always on the look out for good idea's, that aviary is the best i;ve seen in a long while.
  2. Glad you remembered that bit, it'll save the lad losing his hair too early. Quite right to take it easy just now. I tend to wait til they get fed up roaming and want to hang around the loft again before i train them, but there truly are many ways to skin this cat!
  3. I'll bet any man on here we don't race Kelso on Saturday.
  4. Canny wait to get going, hope we get off to a good start with high returns and velocities. A winning start wouldn't be a bad thing either lol Best of luck this week and the season ahead
  5. Ma mate Shug Harkin won the club AND east SEC in Lanarkshire fed TWICE in the first 3 races with a natural yearling ck and hen. Split Geo McAloney's team with the hen in the open result, not an easy task! on that basis i reckon no matter what system you use you'll win if you know how to motivate the doos.
  6. If it promises to be a nice day with decent temperatures and no rain i'll be going with around 40 including 6 or 8 late breds. They've been in the basket plenty so see no reason to hold them back. Would send up to 48 but some still on eggs i want to keep. Could be tipping it down next week for all we know. I normally only send 6-10 in the 1st race but i'm thinking different this year......Genuine request, can anyone look after a DOG on a regular basis? ( not mine) Every Tuesday from 8 to 4 to allow the owner to do voluntary work in Lanark area. Good with people but not so good with other dogs. Its a Colly sized mongrel. This is a commitment i'm looking for but you'll defo go to heaven if you help the man out!
  7. I'm looking forward to racing 29 ck's this year, i'd be greetin if i was only looking forwad to racing three LOL
  8. I like the saying "you can buy the birds but not the man" but reality is a bit clearer. If a TOP fancier breeds 60 yb's a year, by the yearling stage he'll have say 35 to race. By the 2yr old stage that will be more like 15 left to send 500 mls. IF he scores with 3 of them or even 4, he's had a good years breeding that year. So going to buy 10 off the guy the odds are still Very much against you having bought a top pigeon. Simple really!
  9. Always give yb's a handful less than you think they need. Don't need to go weighing food every feed watch them when they feed and so long as they have all had access to the feeding, lift it when the 1st bird goes to the perch. You'll know in a day or 2 how much to put down. Secondly, don't allow young birds to lay about the roof it'll bite you on race day when they sit looking at you NOT timed in. Young birds should always be in one of three places; in the loft in the basket or in the sky, if you master that you'll win races i promise.
  10. I'd say she has a good eye, they look as if they'll mature into cracking pigeons.
  11. If there is one thing i pride my self in its, if it can be caught i'll catch it. So how about i catch some strays down the garden for you, i'll be sure to catch even number ck & hen, then you can breed the ass off them for yb's to fly about the place. Only cost carriage fae Scotland lol
  12. Well said Soapy lmao
  13. Thats ma doo, thought it was about your da's or Dougal's. I know you have the funeral tomorrow but if ok i'll come in for it about 8am?
  14. I'm only 46 ya cheeky **** lol
  15. Started the season with 6 old birds last year and flew the program, with a little success, got 12 old birds this year so you better watch Tam lol
  16. You's are all missing the point, its no about the fancier gettin top money for the yb's, its about the good cause getting a turn, and they don't know who's doo made what and would probably think spending 20 quid on a doo was nuts. Good luck to the buyers and well done to every man that puts one in for the sales.

    gutted

Doesn't sound promising for it. Prepare for the worst and hopefully it won't turn out that way. Doos like that are no easy come by, really hope he's still hiding somewhere and turns up for you.
  18. All races are won in the loft no the basket, my da was no a man to spend big money on pigeons, cos we never had any! BUT his pigeons were the fittest in the race. He didn't train on a Saturday that i can remember cos he could get them fit any day of the week. He won out of turn for years with his methods. Never take liberties with the doos the good ones suffer too.
  19. Let her sit both eggs, if there is going to be any problems rearing 2 its the weakest squab that will lose out. Don,t interfere with nature let it run its course. I know hens that sat the eggs on their own and won racing feeding the yb's. If this one isn't racing let her earn her perch.
  20. The floor will be slippy with that on it but it will be easy cleaned. You should do everything to keep the rain off it and it'll be ok. I put huge tile like sheets on the floors in 2 lofts and think its great. Have since put deep litter on it and its ok with that too. When i say huge i mean 9ft by 4 and a half foot, heavy things as well. Same rule as any other flooring though, keep it dry.
  21. Been off it 8 YEARS! maybe time to take a few lol

    old birds

Choose a dirty night an hour or so before they are going to roost, keep them hungry and tease them outside with their favourite titbit. Do this a couple of times to get them familiar with re-entering the loft. You can't fail.
  23. Now i've had time to think the sale you mean was through the east somewhere. The sale at Newmains was for Marie Curie nurses.
  24. I was there, was it no the midland fed? There weren't many buyers in the room but they averaged just over £30 a doo for the 34 lots. Some real quality doos in it.
  25. Love the buzz of new stock coming in myself, best of health to them and luck to you
