Let my birds out at just the back of 8 this morning split into two groups and went to dots in the heavens Got on with cleaning loft etc briefly looking to see all was ok One group finally returned after 30 minutes but the others dissapeared from view Got a large group back at 9-10 and called them all in ,I knew they were not all there Got 2 singles back of ten o'clock shortly followed by a group of five ,four belonging to me the other a stranger not race rubbered or ets and fresh as paint ,I knew then they had tagged someone's trainers Just before I headed of the back of eleven to my cousins funeral ,two more singles arrived minutes apart this was 11am Blue cock minus his ets ,I trained them the last two days and have the printout He arrived from yesterday's toss at 12-19-05 Yet he comes home after loft exercise within 2 half hours with his ring off Not Happy is an understatement The bird that returned with my 4 at 10'oclock Ring number GB15R31194

Thank you for your comments I very much enjoyed Johns visit today he is a really nice fancier This is something I have done for more years than I care to count And something I will continue doing Once a bird enters my loft it is afforded the same care as my own Thanks again Mick
-
Peter,I spoke to Doug Mcclarey the fancier and scribe back in the 1990s regarding the terrible problem I was facing he was going to highlight it back then in the pictorial I stated what was currently my problem would become everyone's problem if not addressed I was laughed at back then Don't think the same fanciers are laughing now

Ian you have highlighted some wonderful points I have a real bee in my bunnit regarding numbers in baskets and a real gripe with only water at the end of baskets The amount of money we spend caring for our birds properly and then send them to races in Third World Conditions I have a full size hamper as used on the transporters there are at present 12 yb in awaiting collection ,my wife and I stood for 45 minutes yesterday to see if they would go for a drink once fed ,one pigeon went We then placed drinkers inside the basket on 3 sides all birds then took a drink Now put 25 per crate as we are instructed at fed level no matter if they are the best basket trained birds or not they have not a cat in hells chance of getting to the drinker Basketed at loft say 5 pm on a Friday then maybe a 12 noon lib Saturday thats 19hours then fly home Have studied video footage and photos of birds being fed and watered most heads through at one time max 7 Others trying to get forward Gentlemen if we are going to fill crates to capacity water must surely be available on 3 sides for gods sake It's all right fancy looking transport but the simple things are not being addressed

Yb Bird Racing Is It Time To Look For Alternatives?
yeboah replied to ForestForever74's topic in Notice Board
In the early 1990's when I lived on a farm just as you enter moffat ,I had wonderful views 50/60 miles to Cumbria on a good day The late Jocky Harrison from Leshmahagow used to phone me as he was the then race controller ,It was one Saturday the lanarkshire ybs were racing from Locharbriggs and I witnessed the convoy being dispersed all over the sky's at Beattock by 1 Peregrine Falcon ,I reported this to Jocky and told him to expect gappy returns as the birds were trying to regroup . One of the lads that I know told me then that there were 14 pairs in the moffat water valley alone ,the highest concentrated group out with Cumbria THAT WAS 1990 Gentlemen Two years ago whilst my young birds were loft exercising and ranging the town they were attacked and put to ground by the male female and their 3 young it took them hours to make the safety of the loft Now imagine our young birds being struck on release by family's of Falcons then by the next and next again only miles apart but miles from the safety of their lofts Just multiply numbers from the 90's and the answer is there for All to see No ifs or buts JUST THE TRUTH I know we would all like to educate our youngsters properly but how the hell can we under the aforementioned Conditions -

Agree mate the birds were racing well it's when they hit the big hills at the back of me they come unstuck We all no why
-
Derek the weather was spot on here this morning first birds about 9-10 9-30 must have been lanarkshire The batch at 9-35 was prob your fed then very large group of 100's at 9-45 should definitely have been your fed they were racing really well but came straight up the high street heading up annanwater valley which would have taken them into the beef tub which is vertical ,they should have been slightly over me to the east for their line We really could do with trackers on some to give us an indication when or where they are being put off line Atb mick
