Hi Claire , I'm sorry to hear your first hand experience at getting help hasen't been too good . I strongly suggest you join your local club ask the sectary to ask there members to breed you a few ybs to race im sure most be willing to help you out . Go and help out at basketing and stuff get to know the members then im sure they'll get to know you and take you seriously
  5. been a long time since had it but your probably right behind Typical signs are puffy crop, slow crop, vomiting, sour smell from bird’s mouth, foamy diarrhoea. The most common yeast is called Candida albicans. That is the reason why yeast overgrowth in pigeons is called Candidiasis (Sour Crop is another name). Causes birds on antibiotics treatment and high sugar diet usually develop Candidiasis. Baytril is especially one of the drugs that stimulate yeast growing and it is recommended to administer together with Nystatin. Treatments below: Good treatment for Candida are Mycostatin, Amphotericin, Flucytosine etc. Emptying crop, flushing with diluted solution baking soda, or Lugol’s Iodine solution are good remedies in case of Candida infection. All antibiotics must be discontinued.
  6. yes they'll pass it via your drinker , so yes one may show symptoms others may have it but not showing as yet so better to flock treat If you've had your birds swabbed why hasn't vet offered treatment ????
  7. Nystatin best treatment , yes will show up on swab test , if bad i wouldn't race on it as stress is the last thing they need you can get test kits from northern hygiene

  16. good service
  17. are they full of water ????
  18. read your other thread : weak eggs due to lack of calcium or sitting to tight
  19. put a drop of sand and fine sawdust in the bottom of there nest bowl , ensure the birds are not fat before laying and have plenty of calcium , this will ensure good strong eggs , to ensure you birds are fat free this is what i do put them on barley fer at least two weeks before pairing , you could slip dummy's under to enable the diet , i also juice 4 carrots with one orange, i add the juice to the water and top up , the pulp i mix with the barley along with brewers yeast this will remove any fat . On the Calcium front i often mix a bit of grit in the birds feed before breeding and also add live natural yoghurt to water when cool weather in warm weather i add to the barley with pink minerals and brewers yeast . This is my start to breeding and getting good eggs that are strong . Moving back to the sand and fine sawdust in bottom of nest bowl this will prevent deformities in the keel by supporting the bird and as long has good grit minerals and a good feed you should breed healthy birds
  20. he meant a novice when it comes to channel racing
  21. Welcome to Pigeon Basics Alan , we hope you enjoy the site , I've raced yearlings up to 526 miles however I think better to race up to 360 miles and hang on to them and let them mature 2 year olds 400 mile 3 year plus 500+ miles as for feeding that's down to personal choice I like a good Super widowhood mix
  22. nowt much wrong with them if flying fer an hour now , are you going to race these birds ???
