  3. would go for that def. ,, no farmer has yet bought a chicken that lays more eggs than others , by handling or looks , or no farmer can buy a cow that can have more milk than another by looks [was going to say or by handling ;D] they come n all shapes and sizes and looks,, if anything i would go more by there actions , vibrant , bouncy , bright , but even that is just a guess ,, sometimes i think you can get a hunch , through experience, again this is not fool proof , by the proer management ,the good bird will show itself, by results

  18. depluming mite ,,,, old remedies that work ,, meth, spirit , carbolic soap, , but need dabbed a few times per week , feathers will take some time to grow in ,,as the" root" of the feather is usually still in, but sure the vet would give you something more modern , as the fifer says the old garlic in the bath would do no harm
  19. woundnt worry about that paul ,, better concentating on birds first
  20. yes , that was my original post ,, for crop infections,,,milton ,,,diluted off course
  21. ivermectin ,, from approved vet ,, i dont think there will be many beasties,, looking at the weather forecast ;D ;D,,,its usually the warmer months ? that the red mite are at their worst
  22. looks for real ok ,, lets hope things go well [no more outbreaks]
  23. have found pigeons to be great, quick natural healers , and unless the cut was so bad i would stich it [but would advise a vet on this ] better to leave well alone ,where possible,, off course antibacterial spray would do no harm ,, i stitched a bird for a freind [ who will know what im saying] the bird was cut deeply very long cut , through the skin of the crop, food and watter were just comming back out the gash ,, this bird healed miraculously and was as proud as punch when he actually won a race [the funny coloured cock j,b]
  24. had that with,, "sir colin" broken ulna bone [at 4 years old ] but vet was going to strap him up, but on finding he was sitting on floor on eggs said it would be better sitting 12 hours in the nest pan [less stress for him] but recovered obviosly never to race again , but flew well enough round the loft , but allways had that wing drooped for few mins after fly [often wonder how or if he would have performed if this had not happened] as this was relatively young for a distance bird , with the performances up to then ?? p,s this is when the vet told me that after a couple of weeks was to give him physio therapy in working gently with his wing, in case it seized up , which , worked really
  25. as levi says,,,its all in the jeans ;D ;D ;D
