  1. a ft long plankof wood on a hinge,,6ins inside the loft 6ins outside ,,with a lead weight under the end of the inside part ,, so that the outside part would take the weight of the pigeon, but anything heavier i,e, a cat, this would close
  2. in my opinion a yb well trained and raced up to 100 miles without any ill effect will be as good an ob as any of them [further if you want less ob,s ;D] just to give an example i know a chap who didn't race yb,s at all but gave them 10= 55 mile tosses every three days all on good days ,, this" man cleaned up" the folowing year ;D
  3. very difficult to say without seeing the bird ,, this is really just a guess, birds that have had paramyxovirus and came through it are usually left with some sort of impediment ,, much the same with paratyphoid [salmonella] not usually good to breed from,,,,,,off course it may have nothing to do with this at all , so maybe best advice would be good avian vet,,,, its possible the bird has been hurt in some way , sometimes bruising on the wing takes a while to heal
  4. no, thats how i use my loaf ;D ;D ;D
  5. this bird MAY have this impediment due to a past infection

  7. in my experience would say no,,, would be more inclined to go for a yb that has came steady throughout racing and training ,not necessary winning

  13. they used to advertise pigeon eggs in the rp, years ago :) but never see it now a few years ago i brought eggs back packed in a loaf of bread ;D ;D ;D up from nottingham to scotland in a hired car ;D ;D ;D handed the car back , forgot the eggs in the glove compartment,,, ;D ;D ;D had some explaining to do at the car hire firm ;D ;D ;D they said they had many things left in hired cars , but never a dozen pigeons eggs stuffed in a half loaf ;D ;D ;D true ;D ;D ;D actualy formed a great team of birds from these eggs ;D ;D ;D

  16. best of luck to all winners ,great site ,great info brilliant :)
  17. as you say debbie ,with hindsight maybe should have separated it , but however we live and learn,, i think you did your best for the bird , but it looks like its either had something wrong with it [made it too weak] or very much exhausted , but a cock bird would go for a weaker bird [especially a stranger] they know there own loft mates and know when there's a different one there, its not your fault , but as i say, we all live and learn :)
  18. vey interesting roland but wonder if that 10 years study was worth it ,,,,,to find out they follow the roads ,,,,wonder how noahs bird done that ;D ;D ;D,, but very good reading

milton will purify water in 20 mins [at the proper dose],..................,sounds a bit drastic , but pigeons with crop ailments ,can be helped by dowsing their crops with milton [again at the proper dose ] washed out with milton then emtied ,,will kill any bacteria in crop
