johnnybundy Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 How many times can you vaccinat your pigeons as I have got pigeons from sales and vaccinated them and don't no if I can vaccinat then at the start of breeding as the birds maybe jagged 3 times in a matter of weeks I just wish fancers put on pens if birds are vaccinated
REDCHEQHEN Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 It is a DEFRA requirement that all birds are vaccinated if they attend a 'gathering' of birds - that is a show, sale or race
johnnybundy Posted September 2, 2018 Author Report Posted September 2, 2018 Thanks mate but do all fancers do it I vaccinat them as soon as I get them can you cross contamination them with difrent vaccination
eric owenson Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 Once in a 12 month period is the requirements of most vaccinations for pmv
maverick Posted September 2, 2018 Report Posted September 2, 2018 I always try and ask if birds have been done but if any doubt i will jag them before they are put in beside my own birds I then do all birds again around end of October hope this helps
budgie Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 We wouldn’t vaccinate more than twice in any one season .Once in the nest when you are ringing them at 7/10 days and 4/6 weeks before the 1st Young Bird Race .There after 4 wks prior to the 1st old Bird Race and every year including stock birds 🦅.Good luck 😉
johnnybundy Posted September 6, 2018 Author Report Posted September 6, 2018 Do you give the full amount at 7 days old or half
REDCHEQHEN Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 Do you give the full amount at 7 days old or halfI personally think that is bad advice. Instructions are birds should not be vaccinated until 21 days for Columbovac and need to be 6 weeks old I think for Nobivac. They should have natural immunity until 21 days old from the parents
walterboswell59 Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 was reading just the other day on basics the vet im sure it was brian chamers said that vaccinated pigeons can still contract parramixio virus
johnnybundy Posted September 6, 2018 Author Report Posted September 6, 2018 I appreciate all advice I get from all of you every one does thing difrent if it works stick with it thank
eric owenson Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 was reading just the other day on basics the vet im sure it was brian chamers said that vaccinated pigeons can still contract parramixio virusYes This is correct Walter I’m led to believe it’s a preventative but won’t stop your birds getting pmvThis is just what I’ve been told from some avian vets who really know their stuff.
